  1. just a quick post to say hello -- i've been traveling for the past two weeks and haven't been able to spend much time on the boards... from your list, i say go for the bourne ultimatum.... not on your list, i'd go see the movie once -- i haven't seen it yet but it has gotten really good reviews. the music from the movie is by the guy from the band the frames, who our irish counterparts should know well.... deltatahoe
  2. hopefully sharky is reading these suggestions... but if he works 24/7 i'm guessing he doesn't have time to start an ebay watch book selling business... regardless, what a great find -- that's good fortune for you deltatahoe
  3. if you're old man is funding your watch addiction, he must love his little girl to bits i'm curious -- has he shown any interest in your watches? deltatahoe
  4. i've also found WU to be expensive -- it was ~$34 when i bought my great white from ttk (my first and only WU transaction). i'm not sure if they have the bank washington mutual in florida vic, but they have free international wire transfers -- i set up a small bank account at washington mutual (for free) just for this purpose.... hope this helps deltatahoe
  5. ahh...i guess that makes sense. if i wanted to indicate i was grinning i'd probably just go like this deltatahoe
  6. i think the chrono avenger is meant to be on a leather strap instead of the bracelet, which i think is just too much dull titanium.... here's mine on a tan strap (inspired by repaustria): deltatahoe
  7. first off, congrats on getting the dsn fiddy soon -- i'm sure you'll enjoy it. totally random question vic: what's up with the *g* endings to many of your posts? deltatahoe
  8. i'm assuming you saw ziggy's post that he is on vacation for the month of august?
  9. just read the interview w/ ubi; i thought it was really well done. the random questions were some of the most fun (ie. what is your favorite strap), but i think it was very well done -- good to focus on the particular strengths / knowledge of the particular member. keep the member interviews coming -- there are plenty of senior members that would be fun to read interviews about... anyways, i like the format, the questions, as well as the first choice for the member interview -- you can't find a much nicer, more helpful guy than ubi -- he's the best (you've got to respect a guy who will help anyone and everyone, from the super noob to the most seasoned RWG member). cheers deltatahoe
  10. i can only echo the good suggestions from phoband. go for an asian movement base pam w/ sapphire crystal (may i suggest a 112h instead of the standard 111h); then spend $100ish dollars on a nice strap and you'll be hooked for life. welcome to RWG waffles -- hold onto your wallet & have fun deltatahoes
  11. interesting observations cls -- it's always fun to feel the real thing (and helpful in making purchasing decisions - both rep and gen). deltatahoe
  12. like everyone said, it will take a bit to get used to the new skin, but i think it looks nice. one small thing that is very appreciated is the title of the start page (www.rwg.cc/members) -- RWG is much less obtrusive than having Replica Watch Group pasted across the top of each new window (especially when at work ) many thanks to admin for all the hard work you do to keep this site in tip-top shape deltatahoe
  13. could a moderator please....wait a second.....ummm.....admin, there are people posting in your thread!!!
  14. given this thread has finally reached its end (it's been five days since the last post), i figured it was about time i posted here. so for my inaugural (and final, of course) post in this thread, i present the following: top 5 posters in 'the shortest thread ever', and their posts in 'the shortest thread ever' as a percentage of total posts (ranked in order): ryyannon = 190 posts, 10.3% of total posts Dutchy = 127 posts, 7.0% of total posts Pugwash = 88 posts, 1.0% of total posts kenberg = 85 posts, 1.1% of total posts cornerstone = 81 posts, 4.0% of total posts not bad for the shortest thread ever.... deltatahoe
  15. that was a great first post; nothing to be ashamed about welcome to RWG in this thread too have fun, and hold onto your wallet. consider yourself warned -- this is an addicting hobby. deltatahoe
  16. fantastic first post welcome to RWG TheDukeZip deltatahoe
  17. totally agreed. the 2001 white daytona is my favorite modern daytona hands down however, i will reserve judgement re: my 6263 vs. this modern daytona deltatahoe
  18. hmm...i hadn't considered this....looks like if you click on the "track this topic" selection under the "options" drop down topic, you can track the topic and then choose your 'notification' options (ie. whether or not you want to be emailed if the topic receives new replies, etc). then if you want to go back and find your 'tracked' topics, go to your control panel and under "subscriptions" click "view topics". @cornerstone, thanks for this suggestion -- i'm going to start using this functionality.... one question for admin -- under the listing of topics that show up when you click "view topics", would it be possible to show "topic notes" as a column so you could see your comments on the particular thread in that view -- i think that would be helpful -- that way you could write a quick note as to why you are tracking the topic in the "topic notes" and then be able to see it in the "subscriptions", "view topics" summary view. does this make sense? thanks, deltatahoe
  19. enjoy the hard earned break -- you more than deserve it as you say, have fun in the sun deltatahoe
  20. looks great (both the vacation and the watch!) -- the steelfish is an amazing rep -- i really couldn't believe how much i liked it (i feel like a broken record talking about it, but it really is very nice). cheers deltatahoe
  21. are they uploaded to imageshack? that's the best way. look at pugwash's signature (should be easy to find -- it's only here 8k+ times) -- i believe he has a tutorial. looking forward to seeing some pics... deltatahoe
  22. trust me, i know about the smell. i tried to bleach a couple rep straps, and had to thrown them out -- they were total stinkers -- absolutely reeked of bleach. when i saw navigater suggest just brushing on some bleach, as opposed to soaking for 15-20 minutes (which is what i tried), i thought to myself, hey, that could work. i'll be tracking your progress deltatahoe
  23. it doesn't look THAT bad vic -- i think you just need to get some of your skin oils on it, which will darken the lighter areas. i'm sure there is some special wax/polish/conditioner that you can use, but i've found just rubbing straps with your thumbs can improve the look / patina. i read this somewhere on RWG over a year ago and emailed it to myself to save it (sorry, author unknown): "The best way to get a Patina on the MF 1942 is to soak it, dry it (with a hair dryer) then soak it and dry again. Then rub and rub and rub with thumbs (you will get sore fingers) and watch the glossy shine appear. This will age it years in a day. You should not really oil leather. The best Patina I have ever seen is on the old horse leather WW2 US A2 flying jackets and I know they should never be oiled." deltatahoe
  24. no worries stephane -- i got the gist of it you're absolutely right -- if you enjoy what you do and make time for the things that matter in life, all will be well. i really can't complain: i really like my job, i'm healthy, have a great family (parents, brother, etc - no wife or kids) and quality friends (including people here at RWG). a guy can't ask for much more. deltatahoe
  25. @stephane, i'm not sure i got all that (i didn't know froglish applied to math ), but you're right -- one minute isn't much time to devote to getting the day (and time ) started right.... @vbarrett, not a doctor -- i work in finance; the workload ebbs and flows, but when a deal pops, it gets crazy deltatahoe
