  1. interesting. does the strap flex away from the case if you squeeze it at the lugs (see picture below)? deltatahoe
  2. nice collection btw, i see you suffer from the exact opposite of my disease. i'm not a big user of capital letters (i mean really, what's the point?) deltatahoe
  3. @dvn, your 3:00 marker looks pretty good; hard to tell about the 12:00 marker. what are your thoughts on the watch? how's the lume?
  4. interesting....sounds like they are having some serious quality control issues on this one....the 3 & 12 markers both being off is a pretty big deal in my book......sounds like gen valjoux 7750 day/datewheels are a must on this one too (easier fix -- you can get them cheap at cousins)....would you say the lume is: i) similar, ii) better or iii) worse than the 3717 (the lume isn't half bad on my 3717)... i know i'll be waiting to hear if the one you get from andrew has the same issues.... deltatahoe
  5. i agree with jfreeman and RT....let's take two relatively new members as an example: blackrain and stephane (hey, they rhyme!). both have clearly enjoyed this place and have made conscious efforts to find ways to contribute to the forum in whatever capacity they are capable of doing. these two guys are perfect examples of how this forum is still growing, helping, thriving, whatever. the same could be said of numerous other members, new and old deltatahoe
  6. this is a fair point...but the fact remains....someone is taking greater care to make dials, cases, quality AR coated crystals that are more accurate on these so called SuperReps, and my point = if there is a real cost/difficulty/inability to do this (either in a factory or someone's spare bedroom), then i think the higher prices are probably justified and are here to stay. if anyone can do this, then i believe more makers will begin offering watches of this quality and enter the market, pushing down prices. it's a supply and demand, which teddy boy is probably much more versed in than myself. i would be interested to hear his thoughts on my theory too... deltatahoe
  7. i posted this in another thread, but then realized it is actually more appropriate here: it will be interesting to see how the rep game changes with the recent increase in prices on certain pieces (cc and i were discussing this in another thread). my impressions of what lead to those price increases are as follows: one of the rep makers realized that if he were to buy a highly sought after genuine watch and take great care to ensure it is replicated as closely as possible on the first run (even using the rep forums via angus for input to ensure quality control on the dial, etc), then he would be the only maker with this particular well-replicated watch, and could charge a premium price for the product. if you ask me, that's a smart business man. now, there are questions that immediately come to mind, such as: does it take a factory with higher quality control or CNC machining capabilities to create these well-replicated watches, or can all of the rep-making factories make replicas of this quality? if it takes a better (read: more expensive) factory to create these replicas, then i believe these higher prices are likely justified, and are here to stay in the long run. if this is not the case, and all of these factories are capable of making replicas of this quality, then other rep makers/factory owners are going to see the big profits the initial maker is reaping from putting out these new "super-reps" as they are being called, introducing competition back into the market, which should result in a decrease in prices over time. just my thoughts. would be curious to see what others think.... deltatahoe
  8. this is a quality discussion. no monster egos and hurt feelings or lynch mobs. it will be interesting to see how the rep game changes with the recent increase in prices on certain pieces (cc and i were discussing this in another thread). my impressions of what lead to those price increases are as follows: one of the rep makers realized that if he were to buy a highly sought after genuine watch and take great care to ensure it is replicated as closely as possible on the first run (even using the rep forums via angus for input to ensure quality control on the dial, etc), then he would be the only maker with this particular well-replicated watch, and could charge a premium price for the product. if you ask me, that's a smart business man. now, there are questions that immediately come to mind, such as: does it take a factory with higher quality control or CNC machining capabilities to create these well-replicated watches, or can all of the rep-making factories make replicas of this quality? if it takes a better (read: more expensive) factory to create these replicas, then i believe these higher prices are likely justified, and are here to stay in the long run. if this is not the case, and all of these factories are capable of making replicas of this quality, then other rep makers/factory owners are going to see the big profits the initial maker is reaping from putting out these new "super-reps" as they are being called, introducing competition back into the market, which should result in a decrease in prices over time. just my thoughts. would be curious to see what others think.... deltatahoe
  9. @ttk, is that a vampire watch? it has a fang!!!
  10. @ monte, this is what PM is for...
  11. well of course it would 'feel' more substantial....it's quite a bit heavier than a than a genuine submariner....you keep referring to weight.... i'm talking about how 'genuine' the so called super replica feels compared to another replica watch....your question was "what's so super about these super reps".....my answer is that at least in the case of my white dial chronomat evolution, it has a more 'genuine feel' about it than my old navitimer rep. EDIT: i just saw pugwash's post from above...he put it well -- "there's a different feel to them" deltatahoe
  12. well it is definitely heavier, but the things that really sets the watch off in my mind is quality of the dial, which combined with the high quality AR, makes this watch feel genuine. maybe it is just the difference in the model, but the navitimer just feels 'flat' by comparison. one other difference is the feel of the bracelet -- the navitimer bracelet isn't as well built as the chronomat evolution bracelet (for me this isn't a big issue though -- i wear both on straps). deltatahoe
  13. @cc, have you ever held/worn/seen one of the so called super reps? i'm just curious. imho, there is no comparison between the feel of the breitling navitimer rep (sold for $268 plus shipping by most our dealers) and the breitling chronomat evolution super-rep (i got mine for $288 shipped pre-order price from angus). deltatahoe
  14. hi anthony, welcome to RWG...definitely post some pictures of your collection...if you haven't noticed already, we're crazy watch addicts here...the watch monster must be fed deltatahoe
  15. i'm wearing my fully modded 063 today (recently back from ziggy)....i tried to take some new pictures to capture the effect of the new cylops and datewheel this weekend, but it is hard to capture how different the watch feels (many thanks to finepics & chieftang ):
  16. sort of. ofrei definitely has the best prices on omega rubber straps... deltatahoe
  17. not a bad guess. in the summer, most weekends i'll go wakeboarding out at the delta (where the sacramento river meets the sf bay). in the winter, i spend quite a bit of time up in lake tahoe snowboarding. my two favorite playgrounds....the delta & lake tahoe. deltatahoe the breitling is from angus (puretime); the strap makes the watch imho. deltatahoe
  18. wow....this is a tough one....so many great choices....if it were me, i'd go for the breitling chronomat evolution or the iwc pilot's watch (3717). both are amazing reps. white dial breitling chronomat evolution on genuine crocodile strap iwc pilot's watch (3717) deltatahoe
  19. i would go for the iwc pilot's watch (3717). might look more expensive than you would prefer, though.... deltatahoe
  20. so i was lucky to pick up an old version omega speedmaster moon watch from hank7502 (perfect transaction by the way) a couple weeks ago; while i like the watch on the speedmaster bracelet (apparently the old-style bracelet is very accurate), i was intrigued by the custom moon watch velcro straps offered by a guy named carl evans on timezone. apparently the original speedmaster moon watches worn to the moon were worn on the outside of their space suits with a velcro strap, so carl decided to start making velcro straps with several different label options to commemorate the first landing on the moon (you can see his sales post here on the timezone trading forum). i hadn't seen anyone here on RWG with one of these velcro straps, so i decided to go for it and see how it looks. carl was a pleasure to deal with; he asks for your wrist size and strap preferences, and custom makes each strap according to your specifications with your label of choice (he made my strap and shipped it out the same day i ordered it). i went for the label that had the drawing number from the original velcro strap blueprint (DWG SEB12100030) and NASA-APOLLO-SKYLAB written on it, and i think it looks great on the moon watch. here are some pics: and a couple wrist shots thanks for looking, deltatahoe
  21. how about a sporty dress watch? also, i see you don't have an iwc in your collection? you can kill two birds with one stone: i think the iwc pilot's watch is a fantastic dress watch (see pictures below)... deltatahoe
  22. i'm currently struggling with a similar debate....i think for me the key is how much i like a particular watch (or in the case of another addicting hobby, panerai strap) as opposed to how much wrist time it gets. i like having lots of watches to choose from; variety is the spice of life, or something like that. as i look through my current collection, i only have one watch that i don't really love, and that is the iwc ingy amg ti chrono. i plan on posting it to the sale section soon. hope this helps, deltatahoe
  23. cases like this are exactly why josh (& our other collectors) has gained so much respect over the years; you cannot fathom the level of service he provides when a difficult or frustrating situation presents itself. people who have never dealt with josh or any of the other so called 'cartel collectors' that piled on in the little white lies and other threads and demanded immediate banning of these collectors would do well to occasionally pay heed to posts like this. have certain watches (aqua terra, "perfect" anything, b&r w/ eta, etc) or details about watches (ie. synthetic sapphire, etc) been misrepresented at some point in time? yes, they have. are these collectors out to get us? with service like this, i just can't believe that they are. deltatahoe
