  1. Google's German to English transaltion is: everything which limps is also a comparison
  2. It's because it has the seconds dial at the 9 o'clock position. An ETA 2836 has the regular standard second hand that everyone is used to in the middle. The question is, what is the difference between the 21j Asian automatics (eg. Arktos around USD140) and these Asian 7750 copy based watches which we are seeing for over double that price. The reliability of the Asian 7750 copy in this instance should be fine, as The Zigmeister did his breakdown and there was no problem with normal timekeeping - only the chrono functions in the original 7750 copy had problems. These particular submersibles don't have a chrono function, so in theory the Asian 7750 copy should be pretty solid here.
  3. probably because there is enough demand for them ... chronos are popular. I wondered the same thing seeing the prices of the new submersibles based on the asian 7750 movements. Without having to construct the pushers, subdials etc they are not far off the price of an IWC GST Chrono.
  4. Solid gold rep would be a lot more than $500. Just with a two-tone solid gold mid-link (hollow) is not *that* far behind that price... maybe a ladies model. I remember there was someone (Josh,TTK, River?) who had a solid gold R*l*x rep and that was going for $1000 - $2000 so you may want to look around, possibly ask those three listed to see if they can get one for you.
  5. Brand new, no... and Panerais are mostly overpriced for what they are. A Rolex I cannot afford. A used Omega or Breitling, possibly and I would get certain models that are not replicated easily or well.
  6. Anyone know how I can get hold of him and sell him a watch that says Rolex on the dial, and a second hand that sweeps ?
  7. Get a big PAM or an Omega Railmaster and stick it on a kevlar strap, then you got yourself your own personal shield
  8. Hmmm I can see why he wouldnt want reps on a site associated with genuines (see that thread listed at the start of this topic). Maybe he was a little heavy handed with the legal notices.
  9. Sounds like you went through a lot to get silix here, and for that I am sure there are many who are grateful. Now this last point is interesting... need a how to Usually the best way is shopping around. There seems to be price differences from dealer to dealer. I know some stay loyal to one dealer, but what if that dealer doesn't have the particular watch that you want?
  10. Ok, that is what I had gathered from reading previous posts... what *did* he do?
  11. Group buys give a big chunk of money to the dealer, and if it's one particular model, it also means they can buy in bulk if there are enough orders, hopefully passing on some cost savings. Economies of scale and all that. You are lucky you get 10% off, even from all the ETAs as well?
  12. Interesting question. It's plated on those parts of a MBW Submariner.
  13. Agreed, but their argument would be that there is no Panerai name on the watch, and it does not fund "terrorism, organised crime" etc.
  14. From what I understand, he put down rep collectors and did not want to sell straps to any rep collector. He laso said he would forward any details (names/addresses) to Richemont or the police. It seems like he's changed his mind now, or is trying to collect more names and addresses to pass on, while making some money perhaps? And I assume Elazarus is Elliot ?
  15. Where did you find it a lot cheaper? All the dealers I made enquiries to were quoting around the 700 mark, one was slightly more, one was slightly less.
  16. Is the case-back engraved? I've read previously that it was just something stuck on, so I'm wondering about this version.
  17. Guess we were both writing a reply around the same time!
  18. By-Tor has links from his write-up on his GMT-Master II which shows how to clean and polish the bracelet. As for whether it's the correct insert, I'm not sure any more. Since I decided against a GMT-Master until there is a reliably independent hour hand change, I have been out of the loop on that one. Good luck!
  19. Hopefully my 7753 based PAM196 is in transit I think with something like the PAMs, they are different in that you can get an almost exact watch to the genuine, with the exact same movement. Most reps of the likes of R*l*x cannot, as no one has replicated the modern day R*l*x movement. Similarly with some genuines like the Zenith El Primero, Patek Phillipes etc. With these ones they can look as accurate on the outside but not on the inside. With the ETA Panerai reps, you are essentially getting the same watch (if the rep is any good), minus things like bridgework/engraving/decoration and water resistance and luminosity. Considering the price of the genuine watch, it's not a bad deal getting a PAM196 with ETA 7753 for $700 and then a re-lume job done, and possible water-resistance testing done/case-back tightening. I would say these Panerai reps are much greater value-for-money in some ways than many other reps which superficially re-create the original watch.
  20. Life is *definitely* too short to enjoy every PAM This PAM fever is like that thing a few years ago .. collectible cards or soemthing, gotta collect/catch them all.
  21. Waiting for delivery via the silix bulk buy... You know I gotta spend a few days at least wearing them though, and then in for the lume job The GMTs may need one of your cyclops jobs, so let me know when you will be ordering these. Probably a good idea to get a spare on for future use too. If you are still doing AR coating let me know as well! Looks like enough PAM fans around here getting some real tangible mods done. I've never really been bothered by R*l*x crown guards size being very slightly off, but an AR coat or better maginification cyclops is visually obvious.
  22. I agree, two tone looks much classier... with a couple of dealers selling solid gold in some of their rep two tone watches, it's definitely worth a look. I find a full gold watch looks too gaudy for my tastes, and I'm in my 20s. Maybe after 50 years service
