  1. I havent tried suretype. My brother has a Pearl for work and he says he loves it and he never emails from his computer anymore, it's always from that phone, so it must be pretty good. I think I'd probably still prefer a QWERTY but I'll see when this comes out Are the unlocked phones on eBay worth a look ? or too many fakes? A friend of mine dropped $1k on 2 fake N96s before buying direct from Nokia... he's got back $600 from ebay so far and trying to get the rest...
  2. This may be useful for those with a Blackberry Bold. The person has modded his bezel and replaced it with a black one, looks good! http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-90...lack-bezel.html Personally, I think he should have taken the original metal bezel and PVD'd it
  3. Let me know how it is, I'm really interested. I've talked to Vodafone and can get it as a free upgrade when it comes out at the end of the month, but I was thinking of switching phone companies!
  4. I think it will be bundled with their "comes with music" that has unlimited downloads unlimited usage (even after the 1 year expiry) of music from the major record labels. Here's an old press release showing Sony's participation: http://www.nokia.com/A4136001?newsid=1211833 It's essentially a flat rate subscription fee (built into the price of the phone) which will probably be available separately with existing Nokia phones.
  5. Forgot to mention it can be used as a modem too. And can truly be used worldwide with 3G... it has CDMA and GSM networks catered for: US, Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, South Korea, Japan etc. Great for a traveller to go along with the GMT watch
  6. The clickable touchscreen sounds very promising. Apparently they spent a lot of time on it so it feels like using a keyboard... supposed to be faster than other touchscreens with the right kind of feedback.... but as with all touchscreens, you probably can't do it "blind" as with a physical keyboard, but that's personal preference... http://timesonline.typepad.com/technology/...berry-stor.html http://www.gsmarena.com/blackberry_storm_g...al-news-616.php With US' AT&T having an awful 3G service (very poor reception in such a major city as New York) and Verizon having the best 3G network on CDMA, they have a great chance of this phone doing well. The cut and paste functionality looks very simple and easy to use too. 3.2MP camera with flash and video recording is not too bad (though there are so many phones with 5MP and 8MP nowadays too, as well as xenon flash). The usual "proper" push email, messenger, yahoo/msn messengers too. Removeable battery, hot-swappable memory card (16gb size is already available - going upto 32gb in future), convenience keys, ms office document editors, MMS, being able to send and receive via bluetooth ... same processor speed/ram as iphone so should be pretty good. And not forgetting stereo bluetooth headphones will work (I really don't understand why a music-orientated phone like Apple's doesn't allow this). Not sure about wifi, but with an unlimited data plan and 3G it's not a big deal I would think. The Verizon (US) version definitely has no wifi but the rest of the world GSM version might do. If they take over the Bold's DivX/Xvid compatibility, they could really do well here! If they did what Nokia did and give full FlashLite support (see N82, N95, N96 etc) that would really be something. Here are specs: http://www.gsmarena.com/blackberry_storm_9500-2534.php Here's the vodafone advert: http://crackberry.com/vodafone-blackberry-storm-commercial Gotta say this phone has really piqued my interest and I'd be tempted if I wanted a touchscreen phone...
  7. Yay! I'll give your bucket back now Did you see the new Nokia N96 has downgraded their battery from the N95 8GB back to the old N95 battery? Awful decision!
  8. It looks nice... http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_5800_xpressm...ff-news-612.php What with this, the SE music phones, the iPhone, etc, I'm surprised the iPod still exists...!
  9. i would imagine it would be like a blackberry cradle (or charger or car charger) that stops charging once a full charge is reached. you'll be ok, i keep my nokia n82 charging overnight and never had problems with my 3 previous sony ericsson's in the same situation... don't think i've ever had a problem with losing charge...
  10. when burning large files to data DVD, select a different standard. I use Nero. Try on a DVD RW first to test. Just realised (re-reading) the problem is your DVD player. Perhaps something like TMPGEnc (free program) may split it. Puggy's VirtualDub will probably work too. Don't know if you could use HJSplit into two files and rename each as .avis but as that is a file splitter program and AVI's work unlike mpegs, it may not work. By the way, which game and where can you get full games?
  11. I was genuinely sad when I heard this on the radio... and that's saying someting for someone as unfeeling as me.... I haven't seen lots of his movies.. but I loved The Sting and Color of Money. I'd been meaning to borrow The Hustler from a friend too. RIP
  12. Shundi, I saw in the Vertu sales thread you said you wanted a Blackberry Bold... any reason why you prefer that to your iPhone? Or will it be a 2nd phone for more practical emailing etc?
  13. you can get this to double your battery capacity: http://store.phonedifferent.com/mophie-jui...e/8A37A3706.htm
  14. male virgins? Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...
  15. If you can find someone based in China/HK/Japan, perhaps it could happen... And helpful if they speak Japanese.
  16. Works on my N82 barcode reader... great stuff! On Nokia N-series, if you don't want to navigate use the great search... that's what I did to find the barcode reader.. select search, enter "barcode" and it comes up on the list
  17. I agree, but this is probably more of an iPhone/HTC Touch/Sony Xperia competitior... Hopefully Blackberry (and Apple) will get the hint and make a slide out keyboard (in the case of apple, multitasking) version. Apparently, Blackberry have spent a LOT of time developing the keyboard on the touchphone, and it's supposedly going to be the best and closest thing to a hardware keyboard. We shall see...
  18. There are some pics here, and it looks pretty good... http://crackberry.com/leaked-latest-verizo...ecord-and-share More pics and detail here: http://www.engadgetmobile.com/photos/veriz...-wow-factors-1/
  19. http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/23/t-mobil...first-hands-on/ Hopefully a good first step that will get improved over time. It's open source isn't it ? Holding great hopes on this one. The Xperia is out soon too, using a Sony Ericsson adapted version of Windows Mobile. Saw some clips of it in action, looks good, and has a mode to use the touch screen one-handed which is pretty good, although the demo only showed it for right-handed people. (You can probably find a clip on youtube, sorry no link as I was watching it on the N82).
  20. Sorted the problem I had... was using version 0.8.6, updated to latest and it works great... Thanks By-Tor! (doesn't Tor in German mean Goal ? Yes, I know you're Norse:P)
  21. strange I'll try again tomorrow night... all I get is audio in WMP... perhaps it'll work in my phone. good night everyone !
  22. Auto download of codecs did not work on either WMP or VLC. Any ideas? Thanks.
  23. Thanks for some suggestions, I haven't seen some of those. And think I'll have to see Wall-E .. but a bunch of guys going to the cinema to watch that looks odd
  24. Thanks for the link. Uruguay were defending Olympic champions from 1928 and were acknowledged to be the best side. Up until then, the Olympic event determined who was the best. Their win in 1950 was more of a surprise, as Brasil had hoped to win on home turf. I don't think the Brasilians ever forgave them that.
