  1. I pieced my box set(s) together from ebay.
  2. Welcome to the forums. I think you will be very happy with the TOG. To this day it is still my #1 watch, and receives more wrist time than anything. Mine came from Joshua, a very well known and respected dealer. Don't worry about being scammed or receiving a low quality product from any of the approved dealers this site endorses. That's the beauty of RWG. I honestly don't remember what I paid for this watch, but I'm sure it was around $200. Check out Joshua's website at www.perfect-clones.com . Let us know what you end up with, and be sure to post pics! PS.. I can't believe this thread was resurrected!
  3. My wonderful 111h with mods... I simply love it.
  4. WOW. All the time, effort, and care put into the process really shows in the final product. Beautiful job, beautiful work.
  5. I have to say that my Charcoal/SS TOG receives 90% of my total wrist time. It's stunningly accurate in appearance and feel, and is just as at home with suits as it is my khakis and polos. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=10930
  6. As promised, here are some pics of a few special pieces I have at work right now. We're not an AD for Rolex, however. Years back we took these pieces as trade-ins towards new diamond merchandise. I spent several hours on them, including removing all the bracelets, doing full re-polish jobs on all the polished surfaces, and even touching up some of the brushed areas. We've shown them dozens of times in the past couple weeks, and I don't expect to have them for too long. One is a two-tone gents Datejust, champagne dial with bar markers and fluted bezel. One is a two-tone ladies Oyster-date with a champagne dial as well. Both these watches have S serial numbers which dates them to 1993. They were both bought at the same time by the same people, and traded in back, of course, at the same time. The third watch is an all 18k ladies "Presidential" with what is a somewhat off-white roman dial. I don't know a production year on this one yet. I still need to do some more research. It didn't have a letter before the serial number, so it's a little older than the other two. Regardless, they are all three beautiful watches. They all keep superb time and are solid as a rock. We also received several aftermarket bezels which I believe are from Milano. Two of them are for the gents DJ.. 1ctw bead set and 1.5ctw channel set. And for the ladies watches we received a diamond bezel (forgot the total weight ), a diamond/sapphire, diamond/ruby, and diamond/emerald one. The boxes are NOT included with the watches, as they are a part of my personal collection and for display only. Also pictured for comparison purposes are my SS Datejust and TT Sub. I really can't say enough about my SS DJ from joshua. The printing on the dial is bolder and quite nicer than even the gen. As is the date font and mag. Weight wise, they are *extremely* close! I often let customers handle the gen TT and my rep SS, and no one has ever said a thing. At one point in time we also had a mid-sized Oyster-date, which was only a year or so old. It had the hollow center link bracelet and I got to play with it a bit...and well, honestly, the bracelet on my sub felt better. I'm quite disappointed with the quality of the new TT oyster bracelets. If anyone ever tries to call someone out based on that alone, then they have NO idea what they're talking about. Even the gens leave much to be desired. Anyway, enough talk, here's the pics!! Like I said, I don't expect to have these around for long. They're all priced THOUSANDS less than what you would expect. I'd love to have the gts DJ myself if I had a few thousand laying around. The small display I set up Sorry, kinda blurry! Kinda blurr, again.. Rose gold clasp on the ladies presidential Yours truly
  7. Wacko - The tog looks very nice. I've got the black dial version with the oyster bracelet ("charcoal," that is, as Rolex doesn't make a "black" dial for the tog ) It's my favorite watch, followed by my SS DJ (white dial, jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel-- looks very similar to your new acquisition). The only discrepencies I've seen between my tog and the gen are the crystal height (flush with bezel on the rep), and two of the lume dots slightly misaligned, but neither are very noticable unless you're really looking at it. Yours has the new jubilee bracelet with the SELs and hidden clasp, correct? Here is a full review of my tog: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=10930
  8. Crap. Had I know that, I would have hung onto the first one and re-set them.
  9. I'm sure the big tool for this job would be patience. I would image the case back would need to be removed, and through the use of a very small flat too (.5mm screwdriver?) or even a needle of some sort the letters could be popped off the movement and removed with tweezers or some gentle, not too sticky or a tape (perhaps a small piece of the blue painters tape from 3M?). I'm not sure what glue should be used on something this small and delicate.. Probably the same glue used for re-applying markers (super glue?) But over gluing and seepage from underneath the letters could cause more of the problem than the original crooked letters posed to begin with! Aligning them would be difficult as well, with each being done by hand. Again, I think patience would be the biggest obsticle to work against.
  10. Everythingape, that's actually the nicest one I've seen! I do think that the asian version looks more correct, however. If I could get one that looks as good as that, hell, I'd be happy as a clam. The second "A" in Panerai looks a little rotated, but that's just about as crooked as the straightest letters on the watches I've had!
  11. On my now 2+ month search for a Pam111h, I've come to what hopefully isn't a dead end. I haven't been too picky about this one. There's only one thing that I've wanted to get right from the start. The blue "OFFICINE PANERAI" lettering on the back of the movement. It all started when I bought and Asian 6497 one from a well known dealer here. The watch arrived in a timely manner, but the lettering on the movement was crooked. Not just "crooked," but really, really bad. Only the first two letters of each word were lined up, and after that, it looked as if they were each applied by hand. I emailed my dealer, explained the problem, and told me to send the watch back for an exchange. I sent it back, and waited. At last, the relacement arrived. But, not only was lettering on this one crooked, but it was JUST as bad as the first! This one was also sent with a black strap, when I requested a brown one (which the first one did come with). Obviously this watch wasn't inspected for it was sent, being that I specifically asked that the replacement have nice lettering. So once again, I emailed the dealer, and he told me to send it back for a refund. I happily obliged. After that, I ordered one from another dealer. My usual dealer that I've never had a problem with, even after numerous transactions. This watch (now the 3rd) arrives, and you guessed it, the letters are crooked. But not crooked like the first two. One this one, all the letters are aligned nicely with eachother, but the whole application of them runs downhill from left to right. So I emailed the dealer, told him the problem, and he says to send it back for an exchange. Now, here is my question. Does anyone have an Asian Unitas 6497 Pam111h with lettering on the movement that is STRAIGHT and properly aligned, or is it a production issue with the asian versions that causes these letters to be crooked on all of them? Also, the wording on the Swiss unitas versions appears to be applied in a different manner. Should I send my asian version back, send addition funds, and have a swiss one sent, or try my luck with another asian? Here are a couple pictures of Asian and Swiss versions, respectively. Please let me know what you guys think, it is much appreciated! Asian Swiss Edit: The above image crops were taken from images on josh's website because they were the best I could find, and, because, well, josh rocks.
  12. Thanks for all the kind words, guys. I've had the watch since early January, and it's still keeping great time. It's received more wondering eyes and wows from everyone (customers included ) than any other watch. I never hesitate to pop it off my wrist and hand it over to someone. Of the dozens of people who have handled it, no one has ever raised an eyebrow at anything. I think the combination of the wonderful feel of the watch along with the reasonable attainable-nees off the watch (i.e., it's not an all gold diamond Day-Date or anything) make it quite believeable.
  13. I was going through some old word documents I had on the computer, and I found a review of the Rolex Turn-o-graph that I adore so much. I thought I'd post it here, as I really have posted much here for one, but also to let those of your who haven't seen it read it. It was posted on the old RWG, who knows if it's still there. I'm sorry about the quality of the pics. The black dial/polished SS combo is tricky for me to get a good picture of. Enjoy! >> Hey gang, A few days ago I received my third watch from joshua.. A ss/black ("charcoal" dial) Turn-o-graph. Now, if you remember my last couple posts about my trips to a local AD, you'll recall that this watch was the one I had the most hands on time with. I liked it so much there that I rushed home and placed an order for one. I patiently waited for it's MUCH cheaper counterpart to arrive and my door, and sure as clock work, it came. Once removed from it's very thoughtful packaging, I was speechless. That's the only word I can think of. Speechless. Of course, I had an ear to ear grin on my face, but I was speechless. This is simply amazing. I'm at a loss for words right now to describe it, so I'll let the many pictures do that for me. Please forgive my lack of photography skills. I tried my best to capture the details, but some were a bit too elusive for my amateur lens. As for the watch, it's damn near as perfect as one can expect. The weight is spot on. The bracelet is virtually indistinguishable from the gen. The tightness and finish of the links is perfect. The clasp is just as tight and solid and the gens. All the markings and engravings are spot on as well. The back of the links are smooth as silk, and it doesn't even feel like it needs oiling. The bezel is wonderful as well. It operates just as the original. It rotates smoothly with no clicks, and is nice and tight. The crystal is nice, and sits only a 1mm or so below where it should. The cyclops has the appropriate mag, don't let the pics fool you. I can assure you that the mag is perfect. The crystal itself, however, is rotated about 1-1.5mm CW. The laser-etched crown is the best I've ever seen. You will not see it unless you are looking for it. Even with a 10x loupe, it's a little tricky to find, but it's there. The rolexrolexrolex engraving around the inside of the dial/crystal is my favorite feature about this watch. It's perfect. Yes, I said perfect (and of course, I'm sure someone will call me out on that). But having handled the gen not long ago and now this rep, I can say with 100% confidence that it is perfect. The pictures don't really do it justice however. The engraving should be just that... only an engraving. On some reps I've seen the engravings filled with a black enamel... this is incorrect. The words should only be engraved, and much the crown, only visible if you're looking for them. As for the dial, it is 98% accurate. The 6 oclock lume dot is a bit off to the right. It almost touches the "made" in "swiss made". The 8 oclock marker is a hair off, but not too noticeable (not enough to really bother me). The text and font look good, no real complaints. The hour markers are identical to the gen, with regards to size and shape. One of my markers (1 oclock), however, has a fingerprint/smudge on it. It's only a nusience, and is an easy fix. I'm going to let one of our mod gods take care of it (along with rotating the crystal, relume, and waterproofing). The lume now isn't bad, but isn't good. I did get the ETA model, and it feels tighter and smoother (when winding/adjusting) than any other ETA I have. It just feels great. The second hand is smooth as silk, and would fool even the most discerning eye. As a matter of fact, no one that's seen it had questioned it. As some of you know, I work at a rather prestigious jewelry store. We have owners of gens come in all the time, and I often end of chatting with them about their watches (Rollies, for the most part). We also have a local watch maker come in every week to pick up/drop off repairs, and he noticed my TOG today. "Hey, is that one of the new Rolexes?" he asked. I said yes, that it was a TOG. He pointed out that if it ever needs a crystal it has to be sent to Rolex, because of a new vacuum assisted sealing method they use. I thanked him for the advice, he said something along the lines of "nice watch," and went on his way. That was the kicker for me.. If a watch maker couldn't tell from 2 feet away, then it must be a damn good rep. Enjoy the pics, and let me know what you think. Addition: Since writing this, I've noticed something I hadn't noticed before. The numbers/engraving on the bezel are thinner than on the gen. The gens are slightly bolder. Just thought it was worth mentioning.
  14. Not the best pic (taken with the phone), but my TOG from joshua sees more wrist time than anything else. truly a wonderful watch.
