  1. +1 for the BR Aviation, the Vintage Aquatimer and the Inge on page 1. Add; A GOOD Speedmaster Pro. The lack of a truly decent Speedy Pro rep, considering the unfailing popularity of the gen is one of the conundrums of the rep world. IWC Mark XI...the milwatch that inspired a generation of milwatch collectors. A ~40mm Milgauss 1019 Omega Ploprof
  2. I'm surprised there's not more demand, or availability, of a nice Mark XI rep. Being among the holy grail of military watches, you'd think someone would make one, especially with the popularity of other vintage watches; Subs, Dwellers, etc. Anyone ever seen one? Heck, I can't even find a decent XV rep, and certainly no XVIs.
  3. Anyone ever seen a Base in titanium with OP logo? I used to have one in PVD but sold it like a dummy. I think one of the reasons I sold it was it was too heavy to wear for extended periods, which is why I'm now looking for titanium. Any help much appreciated.
  4. No one? Sorry if I'm blind, but I really don't see anywhere to get a bracelet...can someone at least tell me where to search?
  5. Reminds me of The Cruel Shoes by Steve Martin.
  6. Can anyone recommend a seller for just a bracelet? I have an MBW red Sub which came on a rivet bracelet. I prefer something a bit beefier, say a 93150 with 580 ends, but for the life of me I can't seem to find a dealer who sells just the bracelet. I'm less concerned with correctness as I am with quality construction and finish. Thanks!
  7. I owned the gen back in less budget conscious days. I always loved it and regretted selling it. Not too many (any?) reps around...here's one... http://www.kingwatches.net/ROLEX-072.htm The markers look a bit big (LV dial?), or it could just be the photos. I was quoted US $210/Swiss, $160 Asian. Anyone have one?
  8. I just received a 1019 Milgauss rep from a trusted dealer. (shipping was blindingly fast BTW) The photos on his site show a matte black dial, correct for the watch. From the photos, the watch is VERY convincing. Other sites show a version with a glaringly incorrect glossy dial, an incorrect seconds track, incorrect luminous inlay on the hands, and incorrect (small) printing of ROLEX and MILGAUSS, both of which are big and bold on a gen 1019. Much to my chagrin, the watch I received today bears the inferior dial, and does not match at all the dial in the photos on the dealer's site. To the dealer's credit, he replied promptly and offered a refund. Also, he said that the watch makers have changed the dial several times in the 5 years since the photos were taken, although he didn't exactly come right out and say his photos were misleading, or apologize for the difference. Instead, I was told to "expect slight differences" because it was a replica. A slight difference in font, or other dial printing I can understand, but a replica of a watch that never had a glossy dial should not have a glossy dial, period, ESPECIALLY if it's listed as "Top Grade Vintage". This experience tells me 2 things; 2. The 1019 reps, like the genuine version, are simply not popular. If they were, more attention would be paid to getting the dial right. On a watch as simple and elegant as the 1019, it's all about the dial. 1. The few people who do buy a 1019 rep are not as fanatical about the details as Sub/SD buyers, thus the watch makers can change the dial at will, the dealers can sell them using 5 year old photos, and no one will either care or notice. This was my first online rep purchase. I think it will be my last. I've been spoiled by living in NYC for 15 years, a couple of subway stops from Canal St., where you can see exactly what you're buying before you buy. (Unfortunately, Canal St. is going the way of the dinosaur in terms of quality watch reps, as the feds crack down on the dealers.) Based on what I've seen and bought over the years there, the Milgauss I received today is about a $60 watch (the rotor sound and winding feel were exactly like every $60 rep I've owned and absolutely nothing like any ETA based watch I've owned), for which I paid nearly $250 with shipping. Now I have to make a special trip to the post office, stand in line, and spend probably $25 to ship it back to China. So the dealer's outdated photos lead me to spend $25 for nothing. I know there are high quality reps out there, but my feeling is they're only in the $400 and up range. Below that price point, it seems to be a crap shoot. I've seen the EXACT same watches online that I've bought downtown for 1/4 the price.
  9. Sorry to dig this topic up, but I figured it would be better than creating a new one. I personally find it offensive that the rep makers are faking ETAs. It's like a prostitute telling you they love you. It's an affront to common sense. A real ETA 2824-2 costs around $100 wholesale. Am I supposed to believe that a $400 rep watch has a $100 movement? And a $50 "sapphire" crystal, and $75 worth of "316L" steel? And that they machine and assemble these elements, put on a precision painted dial, while covering their expenses AND turning a profit, in the remaining $175? I'm not buying any of it. And if the movement isn't genuine ETA, why should we believe ANY of the other specs? I've seen reps that had obvious Coke bottle green glass crystals described as "sapphire" and "stainless steel" watches with silver plating flaking off around the crown. It's all so stupid. If you know enough about watches to know what ETA is, or care, then you'll probably know enough to discover it's not a real ETA. So why do the rep makers bother? If these watches cost even one dollar less without ETA markings, I'd be happy.
  10. thx peeps. I stumbled upon Andrew's site after poking around here and found the 1019 for less than the site above. both sites use the same pics so who knows who the photography belongs to. oh well. I'm going to hold off on the 1016 for now, until I get the 1019. I live in NYC, so I've become accustomed to paying ~$60 for decent looking reps...here's to hoping the Milgauss exceeds my expectations. I've seen red Subs and Comexes on Canal St. that were $60 and look identical to what many of these sites are asking $200+ for.
  11. Hi all, New here. I'm looking for a plastic crystal model 1016, black. The rivet band is not crucial. I have seen joshwatch's version, and it's sapphire. I found a beautiful looking one below, but I can't find much in the way of references on the seller, other than some indications that most of the photos are from joshwatch, though this particular watch seems to have original photos different than josh's. http://www.bigbigwatch.com/Rolex-Top-Grade...ss-ETA-762.html I'd also love to find a nice 1016 Explorer I, also acrylic. A one stop shop would be ideal. Any help much appreciated. mcdj p.s. is there any such thing as a transitional 16800 rep? that has always been my favorite Sub.
