  1. Hi All

Finally after a year of waiting and these beauties have accumulated a bucket load of frequent flyer miles - I have 2 magnificent Porto's.

Both have Gen movements, Gen dial & hands and run like a dream

First up - the 3714-01 :victory:

    Second - the 3714-17 :victory:

    Thats all folks :thumbsupsmileyanim:

A HUGE HUGE thanks to the mighty Concepta :yahoo: who made this happen. An absolute gem to deal with thru the whole process even with the few glitches we had that required the watches to travel round the world a few times. He is a man of integrity and honour and I cannot recommend him highly enough

I am such a happy fella --- these were my grail pieces and now I have em !!!!! :wiggle:

  2. Hey Peeps

After nearly 9 months I finally have a workin beauty of my grail piece. This has a Concepta sourced:

    • Gen movement
    • Gen Dial & Hands
    • Gen Crown
    • Domi Double AR

It took so long as hit has been around the world 3 times, sat in Customs for a few weeks & basically been a painful experience but now it has been humming on my wrist for the last 7 days & I am a HAPPY wearer :thumbsupsmileyanim:

These babies dont seem to travel well via the post service so went back twice cos it exhibited the same faults as the reps - it would just stop whenever & could be a pain to restart. Concepta was brilliant to deal with and took it back to be checked and even replaced the movement !!!! This time when it returned the sweeper would sometimes freeze at 58 seconds and stop the watch. I took it to a local watchsmith and it appeared a little microscopic spring & other part had come loose inside the watch - something the watchsmith attributed to the transit of the watch. Since he reattached the bits it has been flawless :drinks:

I really love the strap Eric from Hamiltons has made --- it looks way better than my fotos can do justice --- really unique pattern.

I will NEVER get rid of this watch as I have wanted one since I bought my first flawed rep in Hanoi 4 years ago. I went thru 3 reps before the gen movement option came up. Sure it is not a cheap path to take but cheaper than trying to find a used gen. Next on the project list is the 3714-01 where I am awaiting the gen dial to materialise.

May I just reiterate that Concepta is a awesome awesome awesome guy to deal with - a man of integrity. I recommend him heartily. Also a big big thanks to Domi for his skills.

    On to some fotos

  4. I recently smashed the crystal on my orange big pilot and after much hunting finally found Andrew can supply a replacement for $78 USD shipped - but then I have to get it fitted so extra dollars. I can buy a new watch for $198 so if I do that I have a replacement complete for $120 more max !!!!

So should I buy another or just the crystal ?

The one I had had working PR but Andrew doesn't sell them as he says "Those are not nice because case and everything is not made 1:1 like genuine at all"

    Andrews is : HERE

    The other is : HERE

    All opinions welcomed :bicycle:

  5. I have bought 3 reps of the 3714 - 2x 3714-17 1x 3714-01 versions

over the last 2 years from stores in Vietnam & Thailand. I also have also bought a 3714-64 from a member here that was supposedly reliable. All dead within months

Enroute as we speak is a modded 3714-17 with a gen movement fitted. The watchmaker adjusted the rep case & hands to fit plus a gen crown is fitted. I will post pics when it arrives but I have on-sold it to a friend.

I now have a 3714-17 and a 3714-01 on the boil. These will be rep cases modded for gen movements; gen dial & hands & gen crown. The only other task will be dubbleAR. The straps have yet to be confirmed but am leaning towards Hamilton Iguana's as I dont care to pass it off as a gen.

Yes .... it is a relatively costly process but I reckon it is 3x cheaper than a used gen with no guarantee & as this is my grail watch it is worth it. Note also that it has been very difficult to get gen parts for IWC in general so I took advantage of the current possibilities. He who hesitates misses out

A quick aside on this process --- patience is a necessity. I started the original project in late June and it will arrive this week. The people who did this job were at their first attempt so I expect my next projects to be a faster proposition & for others following this route also a benefit.

A lot of the peeps offering services on here seem to operate on the "it's my 2nd job" principle and it can take quite some time for replies to pm's. My teeth have been ground down a lot

    Cheers

  6. I hope to have my 3714-17 here soon - now to sort out a strap :pardon:

So .... bout to get the 2nd project underway with the brilliant resources of Concepta & Domi. It will be a 3714-01 with gen dial & hands; gen movement & gen crown.

I need to buy a donor rep so I can use the case --- any ideas where I can buy the most accurate case pref with the good AR ???

    All replies welcomed

    Cheers

  7. I've got two of them. One died and the other I bought dead. Graphite treatment fixed them both, but the blue coating on the hands doesn't take contact that well.

Here's what I anticipate will happen to mine: The graphite fix will hold for a while, then need reapplying. That'll hold for a while but will eventually need reapplying and the hands will get more marked. Eventually, the raphite mod will have been applied so much that the inevitable happens and dust gets into the movement necessitating a strip and service. The cycle restarts and the hands keep getting worse. Yet I will keep doing this over and over as it's one of the most beautiful watches available.

Buy one like you buy an Alfa Romeo. You know one day it'll crap out and leave you stranded in the rain, but even broken down, it's still a beauty and you forgive it uncontrollably.

That is the best explanation I habe ever read about this rep :thumbsupsmileyanim:

I have just had a gen movement fitted so will let u know how it goes

  8. I have ordered a blue donor & a gen movement from concepta. As I am in OZ i wanted to avoid shipping the piece around the world so I got Concepta to purchase the donor & he will deliver the donor & movement to the watchmaker for the mods.

I hope to have the delivery in the next few weeks :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  9. Hi Sander

    Thanks for the response

I dont think the blue will suit me but the donor will have a rep blue strap that I can test out

Teh Gen movement --- Its from a member here (wink wink) and a euro based member here will fit the movement. I haven't received the project yet but I am assured that it will be all good

    Cheers

    Strap size is 20/18mm

If I were you I would put a gen blue strap on it.

Also a TWB blue croc white stich will look great I guess.

Can you tell a little more about the gen movement? Who and how it's installed?

Also, what did you/he/she do to make the rep hand fit the gen movement?

    Thanks!

    Sander

  10. Hi

Am awaiting my 3714 blue hands porto and want to replace the rep strap. The pic attached is of the donor watch that will have a gen movement fitted. I also have an Ajoesmith dubble AR crystal to fit. I dont like the idea of the blue strap so Hamilton /Donerix suggested something like the below pic.

    So my quick questions are:

    1. What is the lug size I need for the strap ?
    2. What strap floats your boat ?

    Watch pic here --> IMG_4358.jpg

    Strap pic here --> C-26snake.jpg

I have a Heroic strap that I love on my Orange Pilot but feel they are a little too large for the porto

    All opinions welcomed

    Cheeers

  11. Thanks Mate

Some of those straps look awesome .... how do I contact Hamilton ?

    Cheers

I have some blue dial watches, and they go with a light to medium tan, and with black or dark brown. If you are open to some exotic materials, have a look at Hamilton Straps

    http://hamiltonleatherwatchstraps.blogspot...p;max-results=6

While they are as presented more for Pannies, he may make a custom size for you (Donerix) and the pricing is quite reasonable for the uniqueness of the materials.

    My2cents

  12. Hey fellow IWC lovers

I have a 3714 Porto coming with the blue dials/hands & a gen movement from Concepta fitted into a rep case. I have a nice AR dial ready to go as well. Apart from a gen dial/hands the other issue is the strap.

As a redhead with freckled arms I dont fancy the blue strap so are after suggestions --- feel free to use ur imagination :p

    Cheers
