  1. The beautiful thing about 5 minute epoxy is that it holds like crazy but can be seperated with a little razor blade action!
  2. I don't know about you guys...Ubi's Daytona gives me a stiffy
  3. Ubi's post about staring at watchs is funny How about when it's time to get frisky...when that special girl (or guy...not that there's anything wrong with that) says "take it off" Do you leave your new (or favorite rep) on or take it off?
  4. Just kidding! Outstanding first attemp Wear it well
  5. Well, well... Youv'e popped your cherry Niel is right. Read his post again and again. On the other hand you have learned the first lesson of watch making. As per The Zigmeister, if you are not sure OR have to ask. you are in over your head!
  6. Well... From what I understand the U-Boat brand is VERY popular in Europe. I suppose rep makers can find a market there and make a profit. I'm a Rolllie guy but I like to switch it up a bit with the "tuna-can" Panerai's... I'd love to see a U-Boat rep! Count me in
  7. Ahhh... A genuine Submariner which I bought from Baily Banks & Biddle in 1987. It was so bad I don't even want to get into it. From the leak caused by a cracked case/back gasket to dealing with the ass-holes at Rolex to not having the watch for 2 months... Funny... I never had any problems with any subs from Joshua (after some mods and a good gasket lube-job)
  8. Great read! Must be placed in the "must read" files for noobs (if we had one) Thanks!
  9. I guess it's how you present it. Once at a party surrounded by gen Rollies I explained to a friend, who had a gen Sub, that my watch was a "fine replica" and not a "street knock-off". The group became intreaged and my modded Joshua LV sub became the topic of conversation. After being passed around the questions started: How much? "it all depends on the guy I know..." Where did you get it? "I'd rather not say..." What kind of movement? "a fine ETA movement..." I didn't want to make it easy for these (rich) guys. They have been bugging me ever since. It actually is funny...every time we all get together my rep is always the topic of conversation. I wore my gen sub last time we gathered and they were somewhat disapointed
  10. Did you catch the watch on the customs agent in the begining...looked like a silver president band...not bad for a customs agent
  11. I think a true history with pictures would be a real cool thing. I would love to have all the cheap reps I've owned over the last 25 years...the whole collection would be absoluetly worthless and at the same time priceless to collectors like ourselves
  12. Has anyone had any recent dealings with Paul? I've had stuff arrive from him in as little as 4 days and long a 4 weeks and longer but never has a WU payment sat in limbo this long. I hope all is OK with our wackiest dealer...
  13. About 4 years ago after graduating from TZ parts 1 and 2 I placed an order with Bob for stems, crowns, tubes crystals...a whole bunch of stuff to upgrade some reps. 10 weeks and about 5 phone calls begging for my stuff is what it took. "Oh yeah...I see the order...maybe we'll get to it next week or so'" is how the conversations went. Bob has got to be a total "bed-bug" in real life. A reality show of him would be such a train wreck it would probably be funny...kinda like that Flavor Flav
  14. Take your time and use lots of oil and tap slowly Seriously...whatever you do don't force the tap...it'll snap like pretzel. You might have to run the appropriate size bite first (I forget the size) Good Luck
  15. I had the same problem a while back and The Zigmeister came to the rescue. The click wheel assembly was gummed up. The entire click wheel assembly got a double soak in the ultrasonic cleaner and that took care of it!
  16. 16800! Please! Please! Please! Could you imagine a perfect case with a 1:1 bezel ring (no more glue!) perfect crown guards and an upgraded datewheel like the one Ubi is getting his hands on... MBW would have some serious competition
  17. you guys make me feel better... I'll check and see if payment was picked up
  18. I've bought lots of reps from several of our trusted dealers over the years without any issues (including Paul) We all know about the Crazy Sale and quality issues he has had but he always responded to emails...especially the ones telling him he has a WU payment waiting. I emailed him Saturday, Monday, and today letting him know he has a payment waiting and still have gotten no response. Maybe he's out on his boat... Go ahead all you Paul haters...let me have it
  19. YES YES YES! If you are really in to this hobby it will open a new door for you. I have found that working on movements is as enjoyable as collecting. You have to ask yourself if you are mechanically inclined or not though...you have to understand what is actually going on with the gears. It's not going to be cheap...if you buy cheap tools you will buy twice...get a good set of Bergoen screwdrivers from the get go...and remember, they are not miniature prybars! Good luck!
  20. I just recieved a YM (silver dial) from Paul and gotta say I'm really happy with it. My question to any member who has a genuine YM...how accurate is the bezel click. I never handled a genuine YM so I have nothing to comparfe it to. I've have numerous genuine subs over the years so I can make my onw conclusions as the sub reps...
  21. Outstanding read Rob as usual I think the quality issue as just about peaked off...maybe better quality stainless could be used as the gen's and maybe better print quality on datewheels. Print quality on some of the newer dials amazes me...but datewheels are a dead giveaway under a 8x loupe! If I had a wish for the rep Gods it would be a rep Val72...Hmmmmmmmmmmmm
  22. How about the best Explorer.... DeSoto or Magelan
  23. So that's where all the magic happens... Nice post Rob
  24. Congrats on the course! I completed the course, parts 1 and 2 several years ago...and like The Zigmeister says you will save in the long run. I rebuild and properly lube every movement I recieve...just another aspect of the hobby which I love.
