Just as an update, I whipped off the insert on my rep SMP as I have a replacement I got off Ebay and it looks like it will fit with minimal modding.

One concern is that the crystal seems etched heavily with the QOS logo.

As on the genuine at certain angles you can't see it at all.

Very nice, how much did you get the dial for if you don't mind me asking ?

Wouldn't mind doing a similar build myself.

I fancy either a white face/gold combo or blue and gold like the limited edition 007 India only model.

Is your quartz dial actually for the mid size version ?

look at the crown guards, clasp and the date font, looks like a closed factory rep to me ?

I suppose it depends on what case your SMP uses as there are many different ones.

As far as I know the auto movement cannot be fitted into the quartz case - the 2 cases aren't the same internally. Far better to start off with the correct HE position rep case even though you will pay a premium price.

I went through a string of reps to get the best case and dial etc for a black ETA SMP. Then I liked it so much that I bought a gen. Next I bought one of the old-school Bond ETA reps (wrong HE though) with the intent of using the 2 reps to build an ultimate correct HE Bond SMP to pair with my gen black. Then I bought a Bond chrono rep so the project won't go ahead.

If anyone wants to buy a correct HE black SMP rep with an accurate dial & hands and a correct 'pinned' bracelet etc send me a PM. It won't be cheap but it will save a lot of grief. If it's really a Bond you're after I'll sell both - the old-school Bond is also ETA and has the curved link 'pinned' bracelet and has a genuine clasp to swap the outer. (The whole clasp isn't easily interchangable as the pin sizes are slightly different).

I never seem to see them that cheap in the UK.

I'm pretty sure the older GMT case is thinner than an SMP, not sure about the newer one though...

Anybody got the two watches to compare as the case looks the same to me bar the HE ?

Been thinking a lot lately about the Helium valve position problem.

Would it not be possible to use a case from a GMT model and fit a HE to that case ?

After messing about for over a week trying to regulate my 42mm Chinese movement PO, I've got it to -2sec per 24H.

Kept being -/+10 after first few tries, requires very small adjustment to get it just right.

Yep that's a chinese simple mvt. I have the same in my first SMP. This mouvement no keeping time very good.

Does the date wheel click in one go or does it drag on for ages on these type of movements ?

I hope we'll see a good rep of the Quantum of Solace PO with the correct etched crystal and the wonderful dial soon. It is sooo nice!
