I still remember news in Hong Kong where a guy was wearing a gold
rolex president, have a arm hanging out a window of a mercedes.
He stopped at the traffic light. a guy came up and chop off his arm
and ran off with the arm and watch....
my friend had a real rolex with diamonds. he was followed by two guys
out of a restaurant....for 3 blocks. ( that was last year )
better wear a seiko or citizen,,,,....or something cheap and decent
if u are on a holiday.

thats exactly the info I was looking for.
I am at a point where I spend too much on reps...
perhaps I am looking for a cheap asian rep and
than mod it mysef so I can start playing around with the
watch parts myself.

I have been looking at silix watch and silix prime website.
There is a big difference between them in terms of price.
I know silix prime has eta movement.
But are the silix watch reps are reasonable if u didnt want eta movement.?
Or are they so cheap that u should stay away.???
Does anyone have any experience with silix watch rep.???
( I had done a serach and read people are happy with silix prime, just
not sure of the quality of the rep from silix watch)
thanks

I had the same problem. but I ended up just using a thin piece of foam.
and now its perfect... still bidirectional bezel...with right amount
of friction....

tnx for that , the link for the new movements.
But the reason I thought of buying a brand name watch is that
I thought the movements in them would already be properly
oiled and adjusted. hence it may last longer then the standard
rep movements.?
Ifg you know what movement you need try these guyshttp://www.clockspares.net/dept.asp?id=1719
They carry just about every thing, i think you need to look at the 8215.

Hi
I have a datejust rep with asian auto that no longer works.
I have read that someone mention the miyota movement is a straight
swap with asian autos. ( even the rep hands wll fit )
I like to ask is it possible to buy a seiko or citizen auto watch or some other
brand which has these miyota movements in it.??
Can u tell me which brand and model to get.?
( could the seiko 5 or cheap citizen or sandoz etc)
thanks i advance

I wont buy the gens. the reason is:
I use to buy gens, but then , there are many occasins I wouldnt want to
wear my $ 2000 gen everyday.
1 )where as I can wear my rep sub, and pams to work and wont fear of damage or scratch.
2) Now the reps cost is less than gen, so I can afford to have a lot more watches then
I am use to.
By the way, not everybody comments on the type of watches I wear. So really at the
end of the day, u have to be happy at what u wear.

I wonder has anyone ever done the timezone home study course on
how to service the movements.
I have so many watches now, it seems would be a interesting idea.
I only really want to do my own simple ETA movements or manual movements.
not the 7750 etc.
If u have then please let me know how u find the course and was it worth
it.
How long does it take to get to the level where I can service my own ETA
movements.
tnx

hi there
there is another market place call " temple street " just 15 mintues walking distance
from Mong Kok ladies market.
Temple street only starts from 7pm onwards....
but if u are a foreigner, then probably best not to have too much cash on u when u go.
there are a lof of reps there but mostly the cheap quality ... u have to be selective and
then talk to them and gain their trust before they will show u the good stuff.
they will take u upstairs .... so unless u are prepared, then probably not a good idea
if u have never dealt with them before...... " becareful "

7+ seconds per day on a ETA sub.
BUt what I do is to adjust once a week by setting it slow by
30 seconds. then re-adjust again next Monday morning.
The best I have ever got was +3 seconds a week on my IWC power Reserve after 2 adjustments. I guess I got lucky. Still keeps this time after 5 months. Most of the others I can easily get to 4 to 7 seconds a day with manual adjustments. i always try to keep it on the + side.

Hi
I have been reading up on the 7750 movement seconds problem in the 6th position sub dial.
I was thinking of buying a 7750 daytona with the seconds in the 9th position.
Are they reliable if I dont use the chrono function?
I know some people say they are a problem. But I have read how to set the date etc.
I just wanted to know whats the longest time people have been in use and are still
running without any problem. 6 months? 12 months?
tnx

I was in Hong Kong 4 months ago and the AD dealer would not discount either.
like others said, the demand outstrip supply....
Something about new Rolex that the dealers dont discount...
New meaning unworn second-hand in this case.If it's not an AD, it's not really new.
If you can cope with nearly-new like this, try http://watches.co.uk/

Hi
Last time I was in Hong KOng. I took coins and notes of about $ 200 and they were happy to
exchange into hong kong dollars . I used it when I was there.
U have to go the larger Hong KOng and shanghai bank in the central district. Not the
suburban small bank.
They just exchanged it in the normal rate. no problems and no question asked.
The one that does will give me 4 cents Canadian for each Australian dollars in coins (5% of its value). Exchange places in Canada won't touch coins except high-value euro and pound coins.
