The bracelet is fairly disappointing. Although the endlink/first link fit is good, the "seamaster" engraving on the clasp is a bit crooked and the quality of the clasp overall is disappointing. The parts directly surrounding the clasp do not stay tightly with the clasp. If you have used one of omega's divers clasps youll know what im talking about. The links themselves are good and the endlinks fit tightly with the case. A gen clasp would cost more thanthe watch, so that's out of the question. I have a rubber strap coming in from watcheden, so it'll probably stay on that most of the time.
I don't get it. How is it I can buy a generic s/s bracelet from ebay for $20 that has lasted three years without any problems, and the same on the OEM bracelets on $100 Seikos and yet I hear about all these failures on reps. If I'm paying over $100 for a watch I shouldn't have to deal with all this s**t. I'm starting to think that the rep watch market is a total scam and that people are paying very good money for inferior products. I recently purchased a used Seiko Velatura for around $120 and if there's any rep that come remotely close in quality at that price I'd me amazed.

Ultimately, 'yes'.
A rep of an Omega will have all the brandings and markings, and if you wanted to try and pass it off as genuine, then as long as someone didn't know the details of the watch, or believed that you could afford the gen Omega, then they would probably believe it to be a genuine Omega.
With an Alpha, although it might be a cloned brand, rather than a facsimile of the original, someone seeing it would likely think that the owner wanted an Omega, couldn't afford the real thing, so got the closest equivalent which they could afford. Most people don't realize the quality of reps available today. They expect incorrect spellings, ticking movements, and half-rubbed off chrome plating. Show someone a decent quality rep, and unless they know any tells for that watch, chances are they will accept it as genuine. I don't think that anyone would be convinced that a clone watch (like Alpha) is a quality budget alternative to the original watch, but rather a 'poor mans wannabe watch'. Okay, so people think the same thing about people who wear reps, but at least with a rep, they need to find out if it actually is a rep or not, after all, the brandings are all there
With an Alpha, they'll know that it isn't
At the end of the day, it's up to you
Wear what you want, wear it for your own reasons, and wear it because you want to wear it. Don't by an Alpha just because it is a more 'legitimate' cloning of an Omega, as a rep will probably give you much more pleasure. (in the back of your mind, you will always think of an Alpha "But the dial doesn't say... It doesn't have..." all the things which a rep will cover) Personally, I look at rep watches the same way as I look at an excellent forgery of a painting: It might not have been made/painted by SomeGuy, but it was still made by SomeOtherGuy, it still took time and effort, and that effort goes into replicating the details as closely as possible. Clones are nothing more than ripping off the design, changing enough details not to get sued, and slapping their own name on it. That's not creativity, that's plagiarism. A rep might be a forgery, but at least they're true to 'the spirit of the original'
Well said, many thanks.

well without "that omega logo" its just another watch, not a replica
u could never pull it off as a gen, people would say its just a cheap immitation
You mean as opposed to a "genuine" cheap imitation?

I know the Alphas aren't reps but "look-alikes", but I wondered how a $70 Alpha compares in quality to a $120 Omega SMP lite (plus shipping).
Has anyone owned both? It appears as a nooby that with most reps you pays your money and takes your chances, no comebacks, but at least with an Alpha you do get a 12 month warranty. I guess my question is, is it worth spending an extra $100 or more just to have that Omega logo?

The Planet Ocean has seen many different developments. At one point the 42mm version was the best around, this was known as the 4th generation of Planet Ocean's and is very hard to get hold of due to the factories not making it anymore. The factories then released an even better Planet Ocean, but in the 45mm size. This was then termed the Ultimate Planet Ocean (UPO) and is still the best around to this date (it has been around for some time now)
It's not as good when cmpared to the latest batch of replicas of other watches, eg the Breitling Skyland, but having said that, the UPO is the best Planet Ocean that money can buy.
I thought just because it was a 45mm Planet Ocean, that didn't necessarily make it a UPO. As the link I posted shows, the 45mm PO can be had for as little as $118, I don't think you can buy a UPO for that.

Hi Dennis! As you are finding out, the $100 rep PO is basically inferior now. My suggestion is to contact our man in HKong and give him your requirements. I think you would be paying around $195.00 for a UPO type, since his last info to me. Still, he is close to the source and can pretty well verify its quality for you. The only question is ...do you want to spend around $200 or more for a rep???
Robbie G has good advice!...in other words, if you really are committed, buy the higher quality item....
Thanks for the info. Thian, I have sent you an email.

All Planet Ocean's are not "UPO"s. UPO was a term given to the very best quality ETA clone version of the 45.5MM PO. The UPO has the recessed pearl that looks closest to the gen and the dial with the upturned feet on the logo. There is another version with a better logo without the upturned feet and it is a good watch but not a "UPO". Of course there are also lots of lower cost 45.5MM PO's but of course those aren't UPO's either. Hope that helps clear up some terminology barriers.
Bite the bullet and get a true UPO. With some modding in the future, you will have a near gen like rep, whereas the hundred dollar one will be a throw away, have no resale value and a potentially unreliable movement. With the advances made in reps today the best thing to do is buy at the upper end of the price scale. Many are near world class watches that can either be kept for years in a serious collection or sold with ease at not so much of a hit.
Food for thought Dennis...
Thanks for the sound advice. I thought the UPO was just a larger (45mm) version of the PO but obviously not. It's early days and I'm on a very steep learning curve.

You won't be able to get a UPO for any less than 200USD. You can get a cheaper Planet Ocean for around 100USD. Narikka had some nice 42mm PO's, try Watchmark, I think he carries a cheaper 45mm PO.
Really, what about these?

only want to spend around a $100. Anyone recommend a seller they have bought from that offered reasonable quality at this price? Also, I see the banner for top10brand.com at the top of the page. Are they are recommended seller?
-
If I was interested in buying a rep from a private seller or a dealer is it acceptable to ask for references here? As I'm a nooby I have no idea as to the reputation of any seller.

I only joined up today, but have spent the last few hours doing quite a bit of research. Conclusion so far, it's not an easy matter buying a replica watch. It's not like ebay where I can just enter a particular watch model and then just either bid or buy now. It's not that I don't know exactly what I'm after (an Omega UPO) so you'd think, how difficult can it be? Well, first up, try and find a seller that has them and has the price listed and then try and find someone that's already bought to get some feedback. It might be just easier to jump on a plane to Shanghai and buy one off the street.
Thanks for all the input guys. Certainly a lot of helpful advice there. I think I'll bite the bullet and buy a cheapie to start with from one of the recommended sellers on this forum.

I found that I tended to like certain styles of watches, so I gravitated to brands that suited my style. I am still a Rolex (Sub, DSSD and DD/DJ fan). I like dress watches, smaller diameter watches, and don't like too many things on the dial. (ie chronos). I don't like heavy bezels or very chunky watches.
I think Pams are an acquired taste. I didn't like them at first, but now, I am pining for a 111H
I think everybody eventually ends up getting a Sub/ DSSD, a Pam and/or a PO some time in their watch collection.
I said that I know exactly want I want, an Omega PO. You'd think nothing simpler. Wrong.

Welcome! It's a good thing you stopped here- the place with all the resources you need!!
Start with the thread at the bottom of my post!!
Thanks, but just reading the Noob Guide is giving me a headache. I think I better quit and come back when I'm refreshed.

Ah... misunderstood you.
Yes you're right. Most of those scam sites (like Replica Center) are full of that. Best way is to completely forget everything you have read and start from a clean table.
Good luck and happy hunting!
PS: Do you have anything special in your mind (that you're looking for?)
Yes, an Omega PO, but even there I'm lost. Prices vary from less than a $100 to the "sky's the limit". Will keep reading up from this forum though.

There's no misinformation here in RWG. Just plain cold hard facts.
I was talking generally, not about this forum.

Welcome to RWG Dennis. By-TOR is giving it to you stright. Once your here for a while you will see that most of these sites are crap.
Thats puting it nicley. I will assume that your here to learn about the rep biz. I can tell you this "the knowledge and expertise here at RWG is with out peer. Take your time and do as much reading and research as possible. Then you will have the tools to make educated choices. Good luck and happy hunting
Mike
Thanks for the welcome and the heads-up. For a newbie it's a bottomless pit of information/misinformation though.

You just arrived to a rep watch heaven and you want to buy junk from some potential scam site?
Have you taken too many punches to the head or something?
Check these links, and stay away from crappy Web replica sites.
PS: Welcome to the forum!
I said I was a newbie and that's why I'm here, to get pointed in the right direction. You might tell me how you know Amatory is a scam site. Thanks for the link to recommended sellers.
-
Just started taking an interest in replica watches and one of the sellers that seems to get good feedback is Amatory watches. However, even though they say that they photograph their watches from every angle, the pictures look more like drawings and the detail is poor. Has anyone bought from them?
-
First time poster and just started to take an interest in replica watches. Have been a long time member of the Seiko and Citizen forum and that's what my watch collection mainly consists of, except for an Alpha and a Parnis.
How to fix the rivet that holds the clasp together

It appears that criticising anything to do with rep watches is having an attitude. If it wasn't for reading all the comments re faults on rep watches received, perhaps I'd be more positive. If you are spending upwards of $200 on a rep watch why shouldn't you expect the same level of quality as in any other watch in that price range? Does anyone even consider what it might actually cost to manufacture a rep watch that sells for $200 on this forum? I guess if you want a forum comprised of people who only have positive things to say, perhaps it's not for me. I'm also a member of the Seiko and Citizen Forum where constructive criticism is welcomed and the shoddy products exposed. Maybe if it was made clear to the retailers of rep watches that buyers weren't prepared to continuously accept faulty watches, that in turn would relay back to the actual manufacturers and the standard would improve. Saying and doing nothing certainly won't change anything.
