3 slightly less common suggestions from my box: 1 Breguet 5247: The best Breguet rep I have seen so far. Excellent attention to detail and feels like the real thing: Even the case back, with crisp engravings and hallmarks: IWC Portuguese Vintage 5445: This one is a clean and good looking budget rep: Vacheron Partimony:

New to site and looking for quality Audemars Piguet rep
mbjoer replied to Susanm's topic in General Discussion
Any particular reason to do it up front? Not all movements fail so quickly. And even if they do, a service at that stage will sort it. So an up front service seems a fairly expensive way to deal with it. -
What prevents Concepta from having his own forum? From all I see he makes great stuff and is as reliable as anyone. But selling on the IWC forum does seem to open the doors for unstructured selling on the boards.

Here is the thread we have been looking for: http://www.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/new-and-improved-seconds-6-80992.html Conclusion is that the new movement is better than the old one, but far from perfect. It can be made to work, but will cost (service + graphite treatment) and may need regulular maintenance (Graphite does not last long). Sort of good news.

Glad to hear. I hope you will enjoy your new acquisition. Personally I found that it looks much better on the wrist than on pictures. It is interesting how some watches look good on their own and others when worn.

I have a different model UN. On mine the RG is not that good: Not sure if it is same factory though.
-
It looks just that bit better than Pam. I like the shape of the case/crown guard. But Pam is the original...

Don't know about the US, but in the UK they would have to deliver as advertised. This bankrupted the Hoover company many years ago when they promised a ticket to New York worth more than the price of a vacuum cleaner for each vacuum cleaner sold.

I doubt that there would be anything illegal about sending a watch from within the EU to Germany. As far as I know it is legal to own Reps in Germany, but not to sell them. If so there should be no problem sending watches to Domi for repair.

This one is not an automatic. I guess the one that the OP has is a 21j version. These would all have faux chrono. You would have to pay considerably more for an automatic with a functioning chrono, and in the case of a Daytona you will have to read up carefully as the chrono movement can be problematic. To the OP: Thanks for the follow up on your acquisition. From what you write here, I do not think you have found a dealer who can beat the offerings from the Trusted Dealers here. You have over paid, but you could have done much worse. In general I would recommend that you read up on the forum, stay clear of the Daytona as there are too many problematic versions out there and find something else. And for now, stick to the trusted dealers.
-
Agree. And hopefully that will be it.
-
Asked the dealer if it would have been sent with an old battery. This was the answer: Quote dear friend of course no the new watch ,goes with the new battery but the battery lifetime depends on how you use the watch ,my friend unquote Should I only look at it with one eye?? Will go and have the battery checked - hopefully today.
-
How likely is it that a new acquisition has a dead battery? Symptoms: The watch did work for a little while, but then it got tempermantal and now it has stopped. Should I just change the battery or is it likely that there is an underlying problem?

Use your own colouring as the starting point for the guesstimation. I am pale, blond and blue. On me the teak would look best. I say that even though on it's own I prefer the walnut for it's warmer colouring. What is right for you?
-
Because the OP is starting out and trying to learn from the forum. Just as you did some time ago....
-
No - not so. A watch is meant to be worn. Your skin colour is the base from which the rest follows. It doesn't matter how it looks on it's own. Hence: Look at yourself. Especially when you are looking at nuances of the same colour as is the case here.

If looking for watches, the best end of Bond Street is Old Bond Street (the Southern end) and then also the Burlington Archade which runs parralel to it. When you had done that (and spent your whole family fortune) then go up through Bond Street to Oxford Street and enter the Selfridges watch department. There you can spend your bank overdraft before going back home. Have fun!
-
Look at yourself. Which colour looks best on you?
-
I think you may have been VERY lucky. All pics are Gens and description of watches highly questionable. The pictures carry the name of another site which has been closed down by Chanel. Many, many warning signs here.
-
Like them all. But would never recommend the Portu or the Daytona. Seconds @ 6 have far too many movement failures reported to warrant a recommendation.
-
Very nice!! Could do with some Blancpain dress watches as well.
-
Agree with that. But there are now so many of these in circulation that a watchsmith might have some statistical feel for the likelihood of failure. Within the first year, is it 100% or 10%? And what after 2 years? It does seem to be known that about 50% of the A7750 chrono @ 6 movements fail. Surely the statistics are much better for a standard 7750????

If you think I am fooling myself with a ROO worth $20k, what about the other 49 watches in my collection......
-
I guess I was hoping for a more informed answer. The question has some aspects, such as if you wait, how likely is it that the movement will need funadamental repair, and how likely is it that a simple service will solve the problem? What experiences are there as to the time it might take before a movement breaks down? And no, don't tell me that they are all different. I know that. But the timeframes others have experienced would be useful knowledge, so that I can work out what my chances are. It would be good to have more information about experiences with this, as I currently only go on a gut-feeling. I guess a watchmaker might have a deeper insight than most of us (hint The Zigmeister.... .

In the jargon here replica means a fake of which an (almost) identical Genuine version exists. Contrast that to a fantasy which is a fake with the branding of a genuine maker, but not an existing model. Lots of members here spend much time comparing minute differences between the Rep and the Gen and in doing so, the fora have been instrumental in improving the quality of the reps. However for the rare and very expensive watches like AP I would worry much more about the overall quality of the watch than the precise accuracy to an existing model. This may not be a high quality watch. But as long as a fantasy is close enough to be plausible, the overall quality matters more than accuracy to a genuine model. There is a good example of the difference here: http://www.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/new-photos-my-jlc-master-79204.html?p=778108#post778108 Having said all that, there are some exceptionally good AP reps out there. So that might be why some members are so against fantasy models.
