  1. Well, the submariner is a true dive watch, so no need to call on luck.
  2. Well, I suppose that a true 30 Atm diving watch might withstand even a hot shower without flooding. Just, no point in trying it out.
  3. No problem on wearing a $10,000 watch with casual dressing in a bus (besides of robbery). No problem on wearing a $50 watch with a smoking at an elite party. Just don't wear a Radiomir with casual dressing. (A dive-strap Luminor, or even a Submersible, may be tolerated with a smoking as long as you are not attempting to state a style). Italian taste said. Out of joke, wear anything you like, with any dress you like. Who damn cares?
  4. Great! Any info about the 2nd crown function, by chance? Well, a few guys on DHgate might even be selling something not too far (even if I would not bet a rat ass on what you would actually get): http://www.dhgate.com/p_ff8080811752ce5a01...d9fcbc6048.html http://www.dhgate.com/p_ff808081175c785901...c9003906c0.html http://www.dhgate.com/p_ff80808119437e9001...c4fd95269e.html
  5. Many 090 fans are bothered by the quick-date-change pusher on the side of the 090, that makes for an instant rep callout. Unfortunately no good replacement case has been found so far, as the 090 movement is thicker than almost any other movements. Almost. It came to my mind that the 7750 is even thicker, so that there is a very good chance that a case made to host a 7750 may be the holy grail we are looking for. If this is true, the only left issue would be the aligment of the stem with the crown tube. Unfortunately I have no 7750 rep case to try. If anyone has both that case, a 090 to take its movement out, and a little watchsmith skills, he might give it a try. Or, if anyone has a spare 7750 case to send me, I would do the rest. I am also available to buy the case if the price is reasonable. So, anyone with a broken 7750 PAM rep willing to give a contribution to a good cause? And perhaps getting a few bucks on doing that?
  6. From the official OP catalogue: The crown @ 2Hr is "for adjusting the second time zone". Quite obscure, IMO. Unsure whether it means rotating the ring, or moving the GMT hand. I am still unable to persuade myself to like the two-crowns case -- even if I usually apreciate the Radiomirs with date.
  7. I think that they do nothing to make the AR virtually invisible, it is just because single-side AR gets largely overwhelmed by reflections from the dome (!!!) We should keep in mind that my pics were taken after chieftang's double AR -- so there were almost no light reflections to keep the AR hidden. Please consider these four pics of gens (also considering that the first pics looks expressly taken trying to keep reflections under control). In the last pic the AR is quite noticeable, too. Honestly, I prefer my barely visible purple nuance than all those reflections plus possible purple nuance...
  8. Swim: all the time, with my 050. Shower: never -- see former advice from Seadweller. 30m (3 atm, but they should be 4 atm as the +1 atm from the air at the sea level should be taken in account) is just good for washing hands, rain, and splashing waterdrops at the watch.
  9. Wow, what a gorgeous watch! Congrats, wear it well. About that awesome AR, we should have guessed that chieftang had his hand in the matter...
  10. I use exactly the same press shown by Freddy, and it behaves absolutely decently. The only problem are the dies, that are far less than perfect. Still, they do their job. And you can always get better dies independently from the press. I got a few, and they fit that press without any problems. I suppose that the fitting hole diameter is quite standard.
  11. On my 203 I did my best to raise reflections & tints, and I was able to raise purple tint from the domed parts only, and only under natural daylight (not lamp light, not flashlight). Pics are here. @TeeJay: your watch is great, but your guinea pig is a true love.
  12. It is barely adequate, lani, but if you plan to make removing and reinstalling crystals a frequent job of yours, I recommend you get a screw-in press instead. It will allow you to grade more finely the pressure you apply. Also, and especially, that lever press is designed to reinstall crystals (and press-in casebacks) rather than to remove them. I suspect that, with it, you might soon find yourself to remove crystals by your fingers once again. You are welcome any time, R.
  13. To anyone enjoying modding/projects, here is a small Excel sheet where I summarized any handy info I collected along these two last years about the most common movements used in reps (as I am an Asian movements fan, you will find a bias to them). Any corrections, additions, etc, are highly welcomed. Movements.xls EDIT: updated May 7th, 2008.
  14. With fingers you apply pressure on two points only, pressure does not get evenly distributed on the crystal's circumference. Often this may work, but sooner or later you will hear a "crack" and you will know you had better used a press... Obviously this applies especially to thin crystals. Non-domed PAM crystals are quite thick, so less prone to break (still, they are also tough to remove with fingers).
  15. The 183 is pure Superluminova C1. With a blade. Tritec Superluminova color tables: 1. Old tables: 1.1. Gloss in daylight: 1.2. Matte in daylight: 1.3. Lume (both gloss & matte, in darkness): 2. New table, daylight:
  16. I got several straps from them, and I agree with all abovesaid.
  17. Your link is not working. But gen 104 are with "chrome" hands only. If you found a pic of a gen with black hands, either the hands have been replaced or it was a play of light on the gen pic. EDIT: got your link working from another thread. It was just the pic. Well, we are still discussing about it. A 104 in competition with DSN's is that from Joshua/Andrew/Angus/King's. DSN's is more accurate in the caseback, no doubt. But about the dial, someone is preferring DSN's while others the others'.
  18. The most similar model is the PAM 177, but with no date, and with display back instead of solid back. Therefore: fantasy.
  19. If you do not want that exact dial but you rather like the case and overall look, finding a minifiddy might prove a little easier. I got mine from TWP (absent now?), but also Paul was selling it. Beware: I actually ordered one from Paul before finding it from TWP, and Paul delivered a different watch.
  20. Oh well... It is exactly the one displayed in "our" dealers' websites... but i cannot leave such a kind request unsatisfied. Going to post ASAP
  21. A backup wife, I suppose you were meaning?
  22. Do NOT use fingers to remove the crystal, lanikai! Also, it would be pointless to use fingers to remove it once you have a press to reinstall it. Both for removing and reinstalling, but especially for reinstalling, use the larger press dice that fits the crystal's circumference. Auto movements usually have a pin to press to release the stem, while the 6497 has a screw to turn 1.5 turns counterclockwise. They are the pin or screw closest to the stem near the movement border. There are pics somewhere here. Best crown position to release the stem is fully inserted (winding position). The 2892A2 movement is an exception to this, I prefer to release its stem with the crown fully extracted (set time position). Warning: I seem to remember that The Zigmeister prefers the winding position in any cases. Messing up with the keyless work is unfortunately quite easy until you get some experience on releasing and reinstalling the stem. But it is also an easy fix for any watchsmith, unless you broke some parts of the keyless work -- what happens only if you use force to put the stem back in when you feel resistance. You can mess up the keyless work only when you reinsert the stem. The best way to avoid it is to be very delicate and slightly rotate the crown like to wind the watch when reinserting the stem, and also reinserting it not perfectly horizontal but at a slight angle from up to down (obviously letting it become horizontal as long as it goes in). I never encountered screws to release the movement from the case, other than the tiny screws holding the spacer ring in place. I keep the removed movement under a plastic bell securely holding on its basement. No dust allowed here. P.S.: my (small) experience is on PAMs only.
  23. Pix, you cannot keep teasing us that much. It's insane. Any time I look at your collection I am adding new watches to my wish list. I'll soon need a full toilet paper roll to keep it. And your mastery in taking pics is simply overwhelming.
