  1. Well, the two i mentioned (dssd and panerai) are ones i'm keen to at the moment, but if there are really good reps out there, i may like what i see. I don't know much about panerai, so i could use your guys' help there and with the dssd, i read a review on the perfect-clones rep, but i can't tell if that's the best one out there. so is it still just a handful of really good out-of-box reps or has it expanded?
  2. Hey guys, I've been away for a couple of years. After I bought my UPO and MBW from eurotimes (with a crooked dial that still hasn't been fixed), I kind of had my fill for a while. Well, now I wanna know, has anything changed? When I was still in the loop, the UPO was one of the top reps out there; has it changed at all? And what are the best out-of-box reps? I've read some reviews for DSSD's and some Pam's, but I don't know what the "best" out-of-box reps there are right now... I'd really appreciate your guys' help with getting back into the loop. Thanks
  3. Let me correct you...I'm not looking for another dealer. I'm looking for someone to fix my watch. I've contacted Speedy G at repgeek so I'll see what happens from there. Thanks for the comment on the winding rotor.
  4. Well, as I added, the watch has stopped moving altogether. Whether this is because of the rattling, or independent of it, I don't know. I have no tools whatsoever, which includes a caseback opener. I just want advice on whether I should send it back or if I should find someone else here to fix it for me. If the dial alignment is not part of ET's QC, then isn't there cause for me to seek someone else out? And yeah...I can be patient... As of now, it seems that sending it back is the best way to go.
  5. Thanks. Helina has been more than accommodating, so I'm not worried...but sending it back seems like a huge hassle and a long wait. I'd rather send it somewhere within the US and be reimbursed, but it seems ET only offers store credit. If I were going to order from them again soon, I think it'd be nice, but I plan to spend my $$$ on pimping out my 1665. Ah...dilemma. What should I do?
  6. dude. now the second hand has stopped moving entirely...i'm quite worried. Will ET do anything about this? I can't imagine sending it back and receiving a new one would help me. Are they gonna shoulder any of the responsibility for me having to send it to someone else getting it repaired? I sort of doubt it...
  7. Hi My MBW 1665 came from eurotimez with a dial that's not aligned correctly. It's tilted slightly counterclockwise. What should I do? I don't really have experience working with watches. I think I know in theory how to disassemble it, but lack the tools. Is this easily corrected? i.e. is the mbw dial flat on the back? I know I've been told that I should learn how to work on watches, and I will, but in my current situation, wouldn't it be better to send it to someone? Get the cg's/lugholes modded and get the t39 flat mounted? Thanks
  8. I'm looking for anything and everything related to modding an MBW 1665. I guess that includes general watchmaking procedures too, but as a novice, I'm not sure how well a 'general' diy thread would do me. And stuff like modding the He valve so that it actually works. Freddy pointed me toward his thread, but I can't find the other one(s) by other members. As I posted in the support forum, I'm having trouble searching by title... I appreciate your MBW thread by the way. If you could point me in the right direction or tell me which parts...i have a thread in the rolex forum (which is now on the 2nd page) that you could please respond to.
  9. Is/Are there DIY thread compilations? If not, why aren't there any? I know there are sometimes recent/popular ones stickied at the tops of certain forums, but I know there are some diy tutorials that get lost with time and it's hard to find them...especially if you're searching for the wrong thing. Just asking cuz it's hard finding em. -Mike
  10. yo lani, i think I pmed you. check it. and i like firefox. thinking of trying out chrome. so i guess it's a problem with the board, huh? not just me. thanks ronin for that. very helpful.
  11. seriously...is that why? here is the message, copied and pasted: No results found for '1665 rolex'. and dude, lani. you still have that upo crystal? I want mine AR'd, but I thought chief wasn't doing UPO crystals anymore unless you prepared it first...i don't know how/what to prepare, but yeah...
  12. Hi, I like doing forum searches because there's a vast resource of already answered questions in forums...but alas I cannot here. I want to search for threads by title, but it seems that I cannot. I namely want to search for threads related to the 1665 rolex, but when i type in '1665', it says there are no results. So I thought maybe it's too short of an entry, although usually four characters works in other forums. So I tried other words. Finally, I just typed in "rolex" because if that doesn't work, there's something wrong with the engine. And again, no results. So am I doing something wrong? All I'm doing is typing in a keyword and checking the 'search titles only' box right underneath. Thanks, Mike
  13. Hey Freddy, I think I read through all your He valve threads, and I don't know if I missed it, but I can't tell which watch you got the valve from. Do you remember? And were there instructions anywhere in there on how to do the mod on the MBW? I imagine it's just drilling with the two different sized bits, but depths, details, etc. would be helpful if you've already written them somewhere or if repaustria has. I'm having a hard time finding his tutorial on the He valve mod. And have you swam in a pool with the watch since the mod?
  14. Hey Freddy, your watch is awesome. Can you give me a ballpark of how much $$$ it took you to get to that? Mine's going to be a gwsd, by the way. I can appreciate the red accent, but I prefer the monochromatic look. Which is also why I think I'd want my bezel insert to be blacker than yours...I'm going for the Kept in its Box for Most of its Life look. Which I would think would have a very slight yellowing of the markers, and more of a brushed look on the metal parts due to its age/use. And about the HE valve...the MBW comes with a freaking engraved 'valve'??? Do you know if yuki's case comes with a real HE valve? And which watch did you remove the 'working' HE valve from? I don't plan on going deep sea diving, but a working HE valve would be awesome. Arthur: So the 2846 is the one that comes closest to having similar beat? Where should I look to get one? I opted for the asian 2836 in my order because I know I'll eventually replace the movement. And I'm studying my ass off so that I get a good score on the MCATs right now...I need to make up for my low GPA. So although I'd love to learn how to work on watches, I won't be able to if I never get into med school. Haha. I love building models, so working on watches would be very entertaining for me, but I've simply got no time at this point so I may have to put my Gen-ification on hold.
  15. thanks a lot for the detailed replies...it was exactly what I was looking for. And criticism is well noted too. I guess if it's a long term project, I know I should take up the task myself. I'm just studying for the MCATs right now with half a workload at school with a part time lab internship, so I thought someone was out there that would do this. Also, i felt that money put into watch tools would be better spent on parts. haha. But I'm very adept at tinkering and being anal about stuff, so I could pick it up eventually. I guess it was my naivete that thought I could unload all this work on someone. So buying a yuki case isn't even a guarantee that gen parts will fit? Maybe I'm being unrealistic with gen parts, but from what I've gathered, having at least a gen dial seems almost necessary. It seems that even the "best" dials (yuki & ndt?) seem to have their shortcomings. I could do without a gen movement, but what would be a comparable one? People have spoken of the "vintage beat" but I'm not sure what that is. And again, to clarify, I'm not looking to build a gen and I understand that even if all parts were gen rolex, it'd be a franken gen. I just want it to be an indistinguishable imitation of the original. Lofty goal maybe, but hopefully doable. thanks again for the replies. they help a lot.
