  1. I will email Ken asking if he can contact Honpo about it.

Maybe he can make a Honpo edition with Honpo on a dial? :)

    Cheers!

Honpo on a dial? I hope you're kidding haha! Well, maybe I should contact Ken as well, just to emphasize this watch would be very polular. I am quite sure that if this watch will be replicated well, hundreds of it will be sold!

  2. Hi people,

I just received a rolex lady date just. However, the watch has the wrong bezel. The dealer proposes to send the right bezel, because the rest of the watch is identical.

Unfortunately I am very nontechnical in this matter, I am not sure if I can remove the old bezel and replace it with the new one.

Should the dealer send a new watch? What is your opinion? Please let me know.

  3. Well, the movements you buy labelled Swiss have never actually been to Switzerland. They are made in China, just like our Asian movements, but they're made for ETA, a Swiss company.

If your image of Asian movements is a kowloon sweatshop and your image of Swiss is an artisanale old gent in a cottage in the alps, with chocolate and cuckoo clocks and yodelling in the distance, then I'm sorry to shatter your illusion.

ETAs are made in China, in some cases possibly alongside our Asian movements.

Hahhahahahaha, so funny, I was really laughing out loud, Pugwash, you have a great way of saying what it comes down to!!! :D

  4. Now I've got interested as well.... shipping a rep to canada by airmail and back again is also a costly and tricky thing. Visiting a local shop and dropping of / collecting the watch personally is thus an advantage, I guess without the risk of customs seizing the watch or having the watch damaged in transport.

How do you handle these issues?

Good question! I want to know this too. Are there any things one should know to avoid custom issues?

  5. I disagree. Is this one of the best IWC reps? You bet. To be able to pass as a genuine? Far from it. You would probably fool 99% of people who do not know much about IWC or people buying it just because they can. A lot has to do with how you present youself to others with a rep on your wrist. But in terms of focusing just on the watch itself, you will be fooling yourself that a less than USD$200 can be passed off for the gen, esp with NO AR (huge huge giveaway esp from a distance), numeral indices and subdial imprints are substantially different in terms of quality (... and with the movement, the finish is def. not up to par).

One rule I tend to go by (which work so far for me): If a watch can't pass the test by looking at pics (at diff. angles), you can forget about passing off as a gen.

I can't add anything to this. The fact that the guy did not notice it does not say anything. Believe me, I saw the gen next to my rep. There is a CLEAR difference in finish. Also the glass/crystal is very different, the dial looks a lot better etc.

That does not mean it's a bad rep, not at all! It's just still pretty far away from being as perfect as e.g. a high-end 16610 rep.

  6. I agree--

I have to say that I am pretty dissapointed in the dial quality on my silver handed Jones with the decorated movement from EL.

It looks cheap. Even my wife said so.

I thought so from the pictures, but I was hoping it would have better presence in person. With all the folks here dwelling on modding virtually unnoticable issues (like short cannon pins on PAMS), I figured this was an amazing rep by the way that our community went gaga over it.

Sorry, but my standards are higher than this rep.

I totally agree with you! It's all pretty obvious...

  7. Gran, You have a very nice IWC Jones!

    What movement is that?

It is difficult to tell a rep these days. Even "Collector" cannot tell the different sometime. :D

I don't understand that a real watch collector is that easy to convince. I also own a rep IWC FA Jones. Two weeks ago I carefully compared my rep with the gen. I put my rep next to the gen in a store in The Hague (Holland). The gen looked different: better finish (which is easy to see) and the dial looked better like this one:

My friend and I both agreed that the rep did look a little bit cheap compared to the real deal... :( You have to see the gen FA Fones in order to see the difference. Anyway, I still think it's a good rep.

  8. Hi people,

I already asked some people if they happen to own a good PAM 111H sandwich dial. The dial Davidsen sent to me was pretty bad (incorrect font, bad sandwich structure and asymmetric lines). I also asked TTK, but haven't received an answer yet.

Does anyone on this forum have a very good sandwich dial for my PAM111H which (and this is very important to me) has the "L SWISS MADE L" at the right position? The right position is below the 6, without touching the 6, like this one:

I am desperate to get one of these dials! Please let me know by replying to this forum or by sending me a PM.

    Thanks a lot!

  10. I think my post is lost in the turmoil in this thread haha. I hope someone can still respond to my post:

Ok, I can deal with a few minor scratches on the hands. By the way, I got a superlumed dial from davidsen. It is supposed to be a sandwich dial.

Please Finepics, The Zigmeister and other experts on this forum, can you tell me your honest opinion on the quality of this dial (on the right site one can see a pretty good standard dial from PT's PAM111 which is NOT superlumed)?

I wonder, does superluming make the two layers almost equal?

    I think:

    - The depth of the sandwich dial is very very low, almost not noticeable.

    - The font is incorrect

    - Some lines are not "cut out" well

Please look at the link below (zoom in for detail!):
