  1. Thanks, unix, and welcome back, Pete! And I am a classy guy!
  2. One line or two, 200UPH or 300UPH, your Daytona looks great to me! Explorer here:
  3. I wonder if it would be just as difficult to add a date function to the Mystery Movement? There's a ton of uses for a Val.234 clone!
  4. Freddy's right about the glimmer. In fact, I quoted him in my comparison of the J&K with the gen T21. Given prevailing rates for the genuine T21, the price difference is considerable. But if you can snag one for less than $100(less than $50 is still possible), go for it! I would also reconsider switching to a Yuki bezel. The one pictures on Yuki's website looks great, but the unit received and reviewed by Freddy was something else entirely.
  5. It would also preserve a large number of "lesser" V72 chronographs for future generations. I think Clebars are about to go extinct! Bring on the Mega Mystery Movement!
  6. Wait a minute... This isn't the Real Wide Girth forum?
  7. I was able to sell my Lakers Sub to an unsuspecting noob. Now how the hell do I get rid of Fred?
  8. We need pics! More accurately: I need pics! Your Snowflake is progressing very nicely, and I can't wait to see the final result. Mr. Ku's going to be [censored] off if he finds out about the stolen backdrop, though.
  9. It's a trick! It's really a Tudor!
  10. Beautiful shot! And thank you for not making yellow snow to match the lume.
  11. Congrats on the great pickup!!!! Be sure to post pics!!! Cheers - LH
  12. I know you've already got the case, but at that price you could buy a new one and have DW engrave it himself. Better yet, send it back to him. He charges a little extra for the engraving--I can't remember exactly how much, but it ain't $350! It's a worthy upgrade, especially if you like to wear your Daytonas on straps like I often do. The quality's pretty good: Maybe I should've blurred my fake serial number!
  13. Ah... The sweet feeling of an obsession validated! To me, the 1016 is one of the perfect watch designs of the last century. Unfortunately, I do like to time things, so I'll always need a chronograph nearby!
  14. Can the seller provide pictures of the box the sleeve originally came with? I'll pay extra for proof of provenance.
  15. Wonderful! I don't get tired of these! I'm pretty sure these are one of DW's dials. There was a long period when his dial quality was a bit spotty, but I think he's whipped his suppliers back into shape.
  16. Beautiful backdrop, Cube. (And the watch is nice, too!) 6263 for Friday:
  17. Why, this watch is Automatic. Systematic. Hydro-Matic...

    Homeplate

Bruce, the dial as received from DW looks just like that. All the homeplates are white, flat, a bit glossy, and glow weakly. I suppose DW did it this way for guys who wanted a closer resemblance to the Heritage Chronograph. Whatever the reason, it makes a great base on which to apply the yellow stuff. DW's hands are similarly lumed in white. (They're also terrible, though they might come in handy for a 1019 Milgauss build.) coolfire: DW's dial is so far above the competition that it isn't even funny! The only features missing are the scalloped indentations of the gen's subdials, and these are hard to notice in most photos. Even if you decide to go with a Yuki, Phong, or NDT case, you will still want to use the DW dial (and probably his bezel, despite the narrow inner diameter).
  19. Hello and welcome! A long, long time ago, all the way back in 2008, there was a guy named klingsor who made a beautiful 6541. It was very good, but also unfair, since he'd used a genuine case to build it. I don't believe there have been too many 6541 projects since then. There was a small amount of buzz in December, when a new 6541 rep was introduced (alongside a somewhat disappointing 6542 GMT). The most obvious change from the previous 6541 was the addition of a new caseback and Faraday cage, and the midcase looks to be entirely different. However, I'm not aware of anyone who has bought this new rep, let alone reviewed it thoroughly, or compared it with the gen. Likewise, I don't know if anyone has evaluated the accuracy of the pricier cases available from Phong, Yuki, or NDT. Might be a good place to start, especially at less than $200!
