  1. Awesome, Chi! Always wanted to see this as a completed build, and it's gorgeous!

    6238

freddy: Yes, I remember how much you paid for your PN dial, and that is visually closer to the gen than either of these 6238s. The other problem parts are the handset, as I'm not aware of any aftermarket source that carries the long minute or the skinny subdial hands.

Wow, both of MQ's 6238 dials are pretty good! I think I've found a match for this Wittnauer V72 I bought last year...

M, what really kills me about DW (a topic I could write a book about) is that his first albino dial would have been an excellent base on which to create a good, silver 6238 dial. I would gladly give up the 6238's slightly smaller subdials if they were properly indented and textured. By the way, did you catch that rusted and pitted 6238 dial that sold for $800 a little while back? It was in terrible condition, but I was still tempted. Then there was that fair-condition 6238 dial that showed up on VRM for a hefty $6,500...
  5. I'm not sure. Based on what I've read in the past, there's more than one --all in black, I think-- but not a whole lot more.
  6. Transpose two words on the dial to nearly double the selling price, and possibly get Kamal Choraria off your back!
  7. Do you have to declare capital gains on your crowns and pushers?
  8. Best known for their pilot's chronographs, which were used by the Luftwaffe, the Bundesluftwaffe, and Steve McQueen. Here's my Poljot-based rep of the flieger:
  9. Amazing job on the watches, but especially on the new inserts!
  10. I've amassed a pretty big collection of Tropic straps, and out of all of them only one or two smell unpleasant. Unless you're extremely patient, you'll be paying a lot for any Swiss Tropic these days. However, you can also pay less for the Hong Kong-made Tropics--the ones with keepers that look like rubber bands. Other vintage alternatives: The Voguestrap Skindiver, which has a coarser basket-weave pattern; or the Italian SUB strap, which has a scalier-looking pattern.
  11. Ooh, caseback teaser! Luftwaffe action from me:
  12. Thanks! It's a franken.
  13. First Omega of the day:
  14. Is the difference between a 6636 and a 7206 (or between a 6635 and 7205) the expanding springs? I've seen a couple of sources that say this, but have never been able to reconcile that with the existence of genuine, expanding 7205s and 7206s. The poor fit of its endlinks, which cannot be changed without extensive effort, make it a no-go for me--regardless of cost.
  15. Is it really new, or is the same shitty and overpriced 7836 that I reviewed last year? You decide!
