Me too! I was going to sell it to you! The other important thing is being able to get the end result looking EXACTLY as you wanted. While it's true that you could buy a gen and tweak it by swapping out some parts, there would be big mental obstacles preventing me from doing so!

Based on ChiMan's comment, I think I might have got it: On the cases that will take a V72, the uppermost ridge will bisect the holes for the crown and pushers. Cases that won't will have a top ridge that falls short of reaching the equator. Unfortunately, it turns out that my beloved FAP 6239 has one of the latter cases, a discovery made by The Zigmeister during a recent service. I don't know how my old watchsmith managed to cram everything inside and get it running, but Zig refused to touch it in that precarious state. The guts have been transplanted into a new DW case, which jmb will soon be working on. Ignorance was bliss!

Thanks, C, I'll check the internal ridges. Checking the caseback is a no-go, since all of my cases have the skinny type that fits both the V72 and the de-rotored 7750.

Perhaps a silly question to more capable watchsmiths than me, but... I have a small pile of DW Daytona cases. They should all accept a Valjoux 72 movement, but I've recently discovered that MANY of them do not! Is there a quick and dirty way of determining which cases will take a V72, which will take a 7750, and which will take a Mystery Movement?

If you email Davidsen, he'll be happy to sell you individual parts. It's still a hassle to pay, though, and I'm not sure how the dimensions of the PRS-50 match up with DSN's Fifty Fathoms. There were several genuine Blancpain dials that were up on ebay a few days ago, including an Aqua Lung that went for just over $200. I would've grabbed it, but I've blown through my watch budget with an unexpectedly extensive repair.

Wat if... In 20 years or so, the watches with better movements are considered frankens by purists, and the Paneristi pay outrageous premiums for the handful of extant 'unmodified' 318s? Inverted Jenny, anyone?

Here's a link to vlaletom's 2008 post about his V72 build, which features the DW silver dial. It was one of my early inspirations, and remains a watch that anyone would be glad to own.

The best aftermarket "Big Red" dial for the V72 is DW's, in my opinion.

I generally don't sell anything, but there are reps that I regret OTHER people selling... redwatch's Snowflake, for example. It would have been a lot less painful if I'd been the one to buy it!
