  1. Thanks, guys, especially abzack! That Caddy Bay seems to combine two of my favorite case designs, and the price is right.
  2. There used to be pretty good quartz reps of the Cal. 36 Monzas. Unfortunately, the last time I saw one was more than three years ago.
  3. I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right items on the PC website, but there does seem to be a substantial improvement in the replication of the mid-case. This is especially apparent when viewed from the side (compare crown position, thinness of the case at center, and flare of the lughorns): RLEX00203 (Old?) RLEX10002 (New?) Gen 214270: Hands also appear to be correct on RLEX10002. What I can't see in the pictures is whether the dial surface is matte, instead of glossy as on the earlier versions.
  4. I'm looking for a good, solid, reasonably-priced case for storing many watches at home. A few months ago, I tried the as-cheap-as-possible approach and spent $30 on a case for 12 watches from that online auction site. I can't remember who the seller was, but it looked a lot like one of these (370613849090). When I received it, I found that it was shoddily covered in flimsy black vinyl, each slot was barely wide enough to accommodate a Datejust, the cushions were hard as stale biscuits, the "glass" pane turned out to be a clear piece of soft plastic, and the lid kept shutting on my hand! In other words, junk. On the other hand, I've seen some very louche watch cases at the mall, usually in luggage stores. These are the way-too-ornate units made of hardwood, and sell for something like $400 for a 20-watch capacity. No thanks! I'm also not interested in winders. Most of my watches are manuals, anyway. Would much appreciate any recommendations. As the sign in Taxi Driver said, "One of these days, I'm gonna get organiz-ized!"
  5. Congrats to you, and great work by Akira! F is getting rather good at this sort of thing.
  6. It wasn't always so. The little blurb about marriage watches at the top of the item description is a relatively new development. Until recently, it was up to the bidder to sift through the long, flowery text filled with photos and cut-and-pasted history lessons about the brand. Even then, there was no guarantee that the seller would mention that the case/dial/most parts were modern replacements. Even with the definition of a "marriage watch" up top, and an itemization of the watch's components, these sellers are targeting low-information watch enthusiasts who have little to no idea about what they're looking at. They look at a something that appears appropriately vintage to them (it staggers the mind sometimes), and think, "Hey, I know that brand! Maybe I could actually snag this honest-to-goodness antique for less than a thousand. Why, the bizarrely heated bidding hasn't even cleared $600 with a day to go!" For example, how can the following be considered anything but deceptive: "I proudly offer for sale this REGULATEUR timepiece example made by Omega Factory with TWO separate dials, ORIGINAL SIGNED by OMEGA CASE and original pocket watch CLEAN HIGH GRADE MECHANISM with CHATON of REGULATION SCREWS in RED GOLD, BI-METALLIC MICROMETER REGULATOR & BLUE BREGUET BALANCE SPRING." (171002216925) Omega never made a regulateur--ever. Yet somehow Ukrainian sellers have sold hundreds (thousands?) in the last few years.
  7. I always wonder how many of those bidders are shills, and how many are actual suckers. Ooh! Check out this hilarious "Longines Ingenieur": http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mens-MASCULINE-1889-LONGINES-FACTORY-Vintage-AMAZING-Watch-ENGINEERING-DESIGN-/140927493708?pt=Pocket_Watches&hash=item20cfeee64c
  8. Aside from the one Breitling, it looks like a Rolex vs Panerai day. So here's another Rolex:
  9. During my readings, the number "4420101" comes up often. Looks like an early-80s homage that you should be able to pick up for less than a couple hundred dollars. There was also a listing a couple years back from an RWG member who wanted $4000 (!) for one. Faintly ridiculous!
  10. I also favor the linen, but this is really nice!
  11. Here are a few non-Sub looky-likies: Kenneth Cole "Monaco" Armani "Explorer" Bulova "Royal Oak" And finally... The Omega "Paul Schnumancher"
  12. From the Financial Times: I'm calling BS on that parenthetical phrase, you hack!
  13. Stunning shots, ASCI! Heuer/Starbucks:
  14. How have I missed this thread?! Good luck, Lo', and fantastic work, Akira! The reshaped lugs look fantastic!
