  1. Wow, ubi... Now a chronograph?
  2. blue.: Check out this '91 example on Chrono24. Not only does it have lugholes, but it also has beautifully yellowed markers on its T dial. automatico: Have you checked between the seat cushions?
  3. Another day, another Longines Super Compressor:
  4. I had a co-worker who bought one earlier this year, and I agree: It's got presence like Santa! However, I slightly prefer the black version, on account of the partly-blacked-out GMT hand.
  5. Yep. If someone compliments you on your Patek Nautilus and asks if he could try it on, your best response is to tell them to get lost! blue.: To clarify, all of the early 14270s (up to the mid-90s) had lugholes--not just the much-rarer Blackouts.
  6. It's very hard to tell from the oblique angles of the photos, but something does look off--particularly the thickness and curvature of the lugs. The caseback is very wrong, on both sides. At that price, I'm not sure who would buy one just to experiment. I would love to take a closer look at it and the other ignored Daytona cases from Yuki and NDT.
  7. I've never had a problem with Phong, but I think Yuki has the better 7032 handset.
  8. The symbol on the rotor is the Calatrava Cross. Most of these movements probably end up inside an MBK Patek Philippe Nautilus. Congratulations on the Explorer! There seems to be a lot of 1016s in the Rolex subforum these days, and that makes me happy.
  9. Thanks, R! In the right light, I think it looks like five thousand bucks.
  10. Very nice watch, but this was my first thought:
  11. Technically brilliant movement, resulting in an unintuitive and inelegant reading of the calendar. Design-wise, think it looks like a dirty Datejust.
  12. Terrific preview. Hope you find a good solution to make that C&I work.
  13. A little bit of patience goes a long way. Last week, I saw a couple of 7734s (with 45-minute counters) sell for $180-200.
  14. Nice to see that old Tiffany dial, J!
  15. "A Legend Is Born", under the 6263-6265 section. But, yes, definitely worth discussing in much more detail!
  16. Thanks! It's entirely the work of jmb, so he'll have to tell you which crystal he used.
  17. J: While I agree that mine's a Mk 2, I think there were more than two bezel types. Mazzariol shows three in his book, plus one post-production--and that's not counting the bezels on the late 6239s and 6262s!
  18. Because it is a $200 disappointment. EDIT: Ah, I just noticed that Akira linked to my mini-review in the OP. To summarize: The fixed endlinks weren't a good fit on any of my Rolex/Tudor watches, and the tightness between the endlinks and the adjacent links made it uncomfortable to wear.
  19. Here I come to save the day--maybe! Putting a Yuki 7206 onto my 1601-based Space-Dweller was as close to a perfect fit as I could imagine. Gen bracelets are a different story--especially Oysters, since I don't think they were an OEM option for the 1601. x58s should be the best fit, but these will likely be a bit loose around the lugs. Rep 455Bs won't help you, since they're way too big... If you like rivets, I'd go with the Yuki option. Alternatively, a Jubilee with x55s should be perfect. I think this is what ubi did on his build. Superb dial, by the way. That didn't come from Italy, did it?
  20. The cartel 1016 is nice, but a bit of a dead-end, modding-wise. The dimensions of its case (carried over from the old rep DJ) are such that you can't fit a gen-spec crystal, and the lugs are already drilled. You could play around with the dial, but that's already pretty good on this watch.
  21. I had the pleasure of watching this mod take shape over a series of emails. The connecting midlink might seem like a minor thing, but it's out in front--and it's in every wrist shot! It can also have a big effect on the fit and comfort of the bracelet. Well done, Akira!
