    SM300

R: In my first SM300 thread (now easily accessible in my handy-dandy Thread Repository!), I compared the dimensions of the gen-spec Vietnamese dial with the one found in the cartel rep. It's not even close, unfortunately, so a gen dial would be too small for the cartel SM300 case.
  2. The genuine crystal, or a good-quality aftermarket unit like donerix's, is a massive improvement over DW's. The stock DW 7032 crystal is brittle, and has poor optics--best exhibited by the funhouse cyclops. Here's the problem: Fitting a gen or gen-spec crystal is a big headache on the later DW 7032 cases. It's not just a matter of trimming the bezel's inner diameter, as on the DW Daytonas. You also have to contend with a rehaut lip that is nearly 0.5mm too narrow for the crystal. I can't figure out a solution that doesn't involve gobs of glue, unfortunately.
  3. Let me know if you're successful, E, as it's been a bust on my end. I've spent the last week trying to contact DW for a refund, and he's gone completely silent to all of my emails. I think I've been one of his most vocal defenders on these boards, but DW has really been trying my patience over the past few months.
  4. Nice mesh, gran! And that's a pair of gorgeous Dwellers, but I'm going to give the edge (ho-ho) to woof*'s 1665. Hamilton for Saturday
  5. Fantastic, F! Corum ought to be paying you for the free advertising.
  6. j: The Blue Sub looks spectacular! Wish I had something similar... LLD for Friday:
  7. But vice-versa is OK, with a little bending to avoid contact with the crystal.
  8. I've tried Clark's and a few other sellers on eBay (though I never paid more than $30 for a set). DW had the best-looking hands. Build quality could use a lot of improvement, but I found that they were the best visual match to the originals. This is especially true of DW's subdial hands. Often, they're loose on their tubes and need to be fixed using Freddy's method. However, the width and shape of these hands is just right.
  9. ChiMan did some experimenting on the cartel Daytona, including his mod to fix the sub@6 spacing. He might be able to tell you if a T21 will fit or not. If I recall correctly, the bezel dimensions were -surprise!- not 1:1.
  10. Yikes! Genuine 7206s are dearer than more than "a few more bucks"! Thank you for the explanation. Hell of a sentence, but I understand what you mean!
  11. Nice camera-mouth, ASCI! GST for Thursday:
  12. Or the blue... Come on, H- & N-Factories, make a new 082!
  13. Ugh... At least Yuki processes refunds quickly. Can you explain how the clasp doesn't close? Are there parts that are out of alignment?
  14. Black datewheel. None of the 7031/2s had a roulette datewheel. For that matter, I've never seen a black-dialed 7031 other than the one that donerix put together, but that doesn't mean one couldn't exist... Either a folded 7836 or a solid 78360 is what you want. Endlinks are a whole 'nother headache, but I suggest you buy a cheap 7836 from Mary or the cartel, and stick with what it comes with. Some guys like the Heritage look and put it on a black/gray/orange NATO. Finally, the 6239 has a lug spacing of 19mm versus the 7032's 20mm, so you'll have to pinch the strap to fit into the Daytona.
  15. Thanks! And that's a mighty fine Sub you've got on.
  16. Aside from the Ofrei units mentioned by woof*, there are also similar pushers at CousinsUK. I'd start with Clark. Whose case are you working on, CJ? If it's a DW, then you may have thread-pitch headaches coming your way.
  17. WatchEden also used to carry a cheapo rep of the IWC Vintage Aquatimer. I wasn't too fond of the gen, and the rep looked very unremarkable. I don't think the bezel could even turn. There are homages of the 36mm Compressor available from one seller based in France. Most of the time, the dial is signed "Landeron" but I'm certain there's no link with the old movement manufacturer. Similarly, I'm not even sure if these homages are even real Compressors, or just lookalikes with screwdown casebacks. Ignore the EUR 750 list price; I'm sure you can pick one up for less than $400. Finally, there's the Pleamar, which was a limited edition Super Compressor homage produced by/for a Spanish watch forum. It is suspiciously similar to the Longines Legend Diver (granted, both watches are based on the EPSA 42mm case), and goes for under $800. The rumor is that an LLD was sent to China so that 200 copies could be made. I can't understand why a run of several thousand could have been produced, and turned into reps of LLDs and Polarises.
  18. woof*: Good to see an old friend, but that displaced lume is ridiculous. Bad Omega! justasgood: The Liberty is a great strap. Never understood why it doesn't get more attention, compared to pricier custom jobs. Explorer, before an evening swim:
  19. A couple of 6239s in the sun. Wearing the silver one: And may all your Easter eggs be found!
  20. Still looks better than the Moon-to-Mars Edition.
  21. Yep. You can speculate and approximate all you want based on past customer experiences, but a PM to pbdad would be your best bet. He's an easy guy to communicate with, and you can specify exactly what you want done.
