  1. Congratulations, Dan! That Sigma is one of my favorite watches in all of RWG.
  2. Only if they can get Vladimir Putin to 'discover' it on his next Black Sea dive!
  3. Happy birthday! Ordinarily, I'd recommend that you go to the Pink Teacup for some bacon and pancakes, but I read that it's not what it used to be. Uh... Have a couple of Gray's Papaya dogs on me!
  4. I used to read a lot about the Antikythera Mechanism in those "Strange Mysteries of the Unknown Universe"-type books. (You know those Arthur C. Clarke or Time-Life compilations with chapters on Hanging Rock or spontaneous human combustion.) Back then, the writers would tease that nobody knew what the Mechanism did, before making some lame link to Atlantis. I had no idea how much progress had been made in studying in studying the device over the past few years. Really fascinating stuff, and good on Hublot for spending a few bucks on this project. Now if only they'd ditch the brain-dead faux-Greek alphabet: "ΠΘVΣMBΣ℞"? Really?
  5. It' s a vintage (c1960s-1970s) Tropic rubber strap in 19mm. I've been collecting Tropic rubber for a couple of years now, and I never used to pay more than $15-25 per strap. Prices have become a bit ridiculous since then, especially for curved-end models in desirable sizes i.e. 19mm, 20mm, and especially 22mm. But there are still cheaper options available on eBay.
  6. Here's an OEM option: But honestly, I think the tan ostrich would look a lot better with a black dial. My personal preference for a non-Oyster is Tropic rubber:
  7. Keeping it in the Rolex family:
  8. When I was twenty, three high school friends and I took a road trip down to Anaheim. We each bought a five-day pass and shared one room at the Best Western across the street from the front entrance. By the third day, two of them were all Disneyed out, and spent their time drinking in the motel room. However, one friend and I were still eagerly lining up for Indiana Jones and Splash Mountain on the final night. Now that I'm older and jaded, I figure I'll only be good for three days at the park.
  9. That shot's much less exotic than it looks: That's a rental Mustang on a small gravel lot near Vancouver International Airport. Also, the Explorer isn't real. "I'm a mean motherf***er now, but I once was cool!"
  10. I like the Pulsar, too, despite those evil-looking red LEDs. Other early electronics I wouldn't mind owning: The oddball LED/LCD Heuer Chronosplit (best Ferrari-branded watch ever!), and the Speedmaster Quartz. I still regret not buying a newly-serviced quartz Speedy for $450 last year...
  11. The Longines was on Le Chiffre's wrist, according to the websites and people with sharper eyes than mine.
  12. And there won't be turkeys in Asia this Thanksgiving time. Daytona takes flight:
  13. R: That Sub's like a red, red rose. But it's a Seamaster for me:
  14. I'm really not a fan of the current batch of Yuki 1016 dials, but your options are limited. I would recommend an MBW dial (if you can find one), an InGod Space-Dweller dial (if you don't mind the name), or an NDT dial (if you're flush with cash). Like many watches based on the old Datejust rep, the crystal/bezel dimensions on Narikaa's 1016 are narrower than the gen's. A Tropic 19 can be made to fit, but you'll need to trim its height significantly. Finally, don't forget the lugholes!
  15. A 1016 build is a doddle! Putting a 1675 together means finding a suitable GMT movement, fiddling with the extra hand, finding the right bezel assembly and insert... Yeah, I want one, too.
  16. If I lived anywhere in the western US, I would get an annual pass! Have fun, Ubi!
  17. No, it's a new one more often seen on the TAG-Heuer Monaco and Silverstone reissues. I wanted to preserve my old Corfam strap, since a replacement will cost me around $500. Most expensive pleather ever?
  18. Thanks! It cost me an arm and a leg, but I figured that I didn't need two of each.
