  1. Sorry to hear your problem.

I've not read anywhere about a common problem with the a7750 being a broken minute counter. Does the second hand work?

It is not likely to be an easy fix. It is hard to say what the problem is. There is a common problem with the minute hand advancing prior to the second hand passing 60 (fixable) - see here. It *might* be that the pusher in your case isn't making contact at all. In which case it would just be a case of changing that part - but this is not a small job and the eta part is not a perfect fit (either the pin needs to be made smaller or the hole in the second hand enlarged).

If I were you I'd send it back unless you are planning to get it serviced right away. In this case it is probably worth the part change during the service since this would also solve the common problem of the early advance.

    I hope this helps

  2. Hi Guys/Gals,

We're all probably familiar with the high beat a7750 movement that can be found in most rep chronographs. The lack of a micro-regulator is probably the only serious tell that this is the Asian movement. I have noticed that some chronographs are coming with a new high beat valjoux 7750 that has a working micro-regulator. This looks more like a ETA7750 because of the micro-regulator (and also the bearing on the rotor) but it is actually slightly larger (37mm instead of 30mm).

I have two concerns that I hope you guys can help with.

    1) does the larger size mean that replacing a broken movement with a A7750 or an ETA7750 is not possible? Or can a spacer ring be employed?

    2) is the movement reliable? I would like to see people who have had experience (good or bad) with watches with this movement.

I can find very little on this forum about the movement and when I do read something it appears to be bad news. The inability to search for problems with this movement is that people are just referring to it as an A7750, somebody called it a A7750B1 but I have seen this name given to the current A7750 too, not this asian valgranges. Perhaps a name needs to be made up for this new movement.

There is a little bit on it here:

and a couple of others that I can't refind. One guy returned one and then the replacement also needed replacing. Another guy has had continuing issues with it not having a good power reserve and stopping intermittently during the day. Are these just maintenance issues? Dose a good service solve the problem? Do jewels need to be added during a service?

TLDR: many questions about the new 'A7750'(acually a valgranges replica) would like to know if anybody has a clue if it is any good and the implications for making frankens

    cheers

  3. I'm hoping that somebody can put me onto a seller for the rep deployment buckle and perforated leather strap for the carrera (or even just the buckle on its own). I've got a carrera on the way from Joshua with the steel bracelet and would like to be able to interchange the straps.

I've seen that watcheden sell what I'm after but not sure if they have a decent rep for getting stuff to the UK http://www.watcheden.com/tag-heuer-black-leather-strap-for-carrera-valjoux-version-i-67147-p-1.html

On another note - I was looking at my QC pictures and noticed something that may be of interest to some: The rotor is a more accurate replica of the pre 2010 rotor style (the bearing doesn't have the sawtooth rim as per usual but has the proper eta washer). Yes I know the screws are still blue but it's a step in the right direction.

  4. It isn't broken 'that much' , the hour and minute wheels are loose, so these hands don't move. Chrono and small second works, everything is alright with it, and has over 40 hrs power reserve. I might keep it for parts as I have 2 A7750 powered watches, but maybe I'll sell it. Don't know it yet :) BTW, it has the 12-9-6 config, so it isn't good for the navi datewheel raising project :( May I ask what do you need it for?

    Greetz.

just wanted an asian movement to play with and practice refurbing. l let me know when you decide.

  5. I paid 180 bucks with broken movement, this was a good deal for me, as I planned to swap the A7750 for ETA7750. The case itself was like new.

What you planning on doing with the broken movement? (I'd be interested in it) :p

p.s. sweet watch by the way!

  6. Can somebody post a pic of the gen date wheel font? The pic posted earlier isn't working. (the one hosted at xs.to)

The image you are referring to, from lello, was not a gen date wheel. One of my posts has an image showing the date windows from a number of gen navi dials. I hope this helps

  7. I've just ordered hand removal tools, so should have Legende photos in a week.

Great news Raymo. I'm eagerly awaiting your pics.

Screen printing wpould be good but it's more expensive for small runs (no prob for you) and is hard to get perfect at this scale as your wife no doubt knows. I'd be thinking of doing dials if you can print small enough.

    Col.

Col. lol. It's an idea I'm toying with. Esp given the points Andreww noted above. Lets stick with the datewheel for now. On a side note the thing that I'd be more interested in addressing next would be the messed up slide rule.

  8. Now you need to find a place neer you who can laser print onto plastic card. Shouldn't be too hard.

    Col.

Not too hard at all given my wife is a printer! I was thinking of potentially using screen printing as I had the impression that this is how the proper ones are done. Interestingly I was going to make prototypes myself. I have some ace paper I once got from HP that is plastic printer paper that will run through my laser printer; I was looking for it yesterday but couldn't find it

I applaud your efforts, and hope that it will lead to some sort of solution. But, I really am skeptical that you will be able to fully resolve the date window issue on the rep navitimers. Although the recessed date wheel is annoying, it is only part of the problem. The date window on the Navitimer is huge, certainly much bigger than the date window on our 7750 reps. So if you use a rep dial, it will only look slightly more accurate. A gen dial is not an alternative, as the date window is cut slightly more outboard, as the 7753 date wheel is different. When you install a gen dial you will see the outer edge of the datewheel. I guess that if you made your overlay to 7753 specs, and installed a gen dial, you would have something, but that's going to involve a lot of work and cash. At best I can see one decent franken coming out of this, but I don't see an easy fix for all unfortunately.

Thanks Andreww. I think you are right about this being a hard task and that you are correct that the date window position is a slightly different as is the size on the original. These are obviously issues but the idea is to bring the rep one step closer and I think that the massive recess is something that needs to be fixed. In the end even if the recess problem isn't fixed this will give us a date wheel that can be fitted in the reps that has the same number font and orientations as the original. That may be enough for some.

  9. I want to share some pics of a gen, but they will come later...so tell me first which one is the gen? :p

The Montbrilliant Olympus is gen...? Reflectivity of glass is a give away. It's certainly not the Navitimer.

  10. Great project, long overdue, would love to add it to my Navi.

The closest font I have come across is in Microsoft Word, called Eurostile, it's not 100%, but it's close, the width may need to be slightly adjusted.

    :)

You're a superstar :1a: This font is very close and features on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurostile and accordingly is very similar to microgramma http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microgramma which is also very close. Close enough in fact to use I think. Cudos to you. I couldn't find it because I don't have Eurostile on my pc. you couldn't post the font file of the eurostile could you?

  11. Raymo - Glad to see more enthusiasm on this!

One problem is it turns out that the image above, originally from Yodap, is from the old 21600 beat A7750 and is not likely the one in your watch. As yet we don't have an image of the front of the current tricompax a7750. It would be great if you could get your hands and face off and snap us a pic.

That goes for the rest of you guys - if anybody has a pic of their navitimer with the hands and face removed it would be of serious use to this project

    cheers

  12. please somebody do it, this really bothers me with my legende.

It's great that people are responding to this but It's not a case of one person doing it. We need to do this as a community. Finding out which font it is requires all of us to spend some time trawling the interwebs. Lets get this done together.

    :good:

  13. The title says all. It's an A7750, and I want to remove the blue paint from the movement screws (the gen doesn't have it). Is there any easy solution? Acetone maybe?

    Thanks!

Yeah, that should do it. Just a bit of a soak and then use s cotton cue-tip to give em a wipe. Nail polish remover will do it too (since usually this is mostly acetone) - a bit easier to get hold of.

  14. I've started to make a custom date ring which closely resembles the Breitling original for the navitimer.

Obviously this is crap - I couldn't help but rush so I could show you this as the font needs changing anyway but it's proof of concept. The font I have used is the closest I could find and it is better than what the reps currently carry. Note the proper orientation for the single digits. The size is correct and the spacing is perfect.

    firstattempt.jpg

Anybody have any idea what font I should try out?

  15. I very much doubt that you could find an OEM Breitling d/w on its own, mate.

I've never seen one for sale anywhere, ever. By that I mean ANY Breitling calibre.

Granted, some complete Breitling movements come up for sale from time to time.

If the mod was successful, someone would have to scan the OEM cal.23 d/w in order for it to be resized & replicated onto the new d/w.

As far as I see it, the factories in China are probably best equipped (and funded) to do this job. Whether they would bother to do it is another matter!
