  1. Budget: ~ 9K$

Brand: Preferably JLC. Will consider anything but Rolex, with the condition that the movement is either in-house or at least heavily modified and decorated.

Design: ~42mm round case, clear caseback, classic (but not plain and old), steel with leather strap.

As an example, the JLC Master Geographic would be perfect (and I wouldn't even post here) if it had been larger than 39mm:

I love that classy, yet almost gadgety look. And it looks like a great implementation of the second time zone concept.

    Any ideas?

  2. I really like the look of the watch, but it really isn't comfortable on my hand. I'm not sure if it's the awkward AP clasp, or it's size, but something isn't right.

I either have to set the strap very loose or else the metal clasp hurts my wrist (you know the bone you have on the wrist on the thumb side? exactly there), and the watch doesn't stay straight but somewhat crooked,

I've spent a small fortune (as far as reps go) for the watch and a very nice strap, but I can't wear it. Any ideas?

  3. I had a bad experience in the past with king watch. Ordered a watch, and got a different version that has many flaws, They wouldn't take it back, and I was left with a non-wearable watch...

Most dealers are good 99% of the time, you should look for reviews where something went wrong and was fixed.

Every dealer makes mistakes, it's how they deal with them that counts.

I had the chance to "test" Tony from asian7750, and he was great, and Angus from PureTimes, did a good job as well.

Orders from Narikaa, Andrew from TrustyTime and Torobravo went great without any problems, so I can't comment yet on how they deal with them.

The smoothest experience award goes to Andrew (TrustyTime), so his my default dealer.

  4. Wow, you guys have some awesome bottles.

    My modest scotch collection includes:

    1. Ardbeg Uigeadail - The best whisky I ever tasted, and by far the best one I have.

    2. Ardbeg 10 YO.

    3. Talisker 10 YO.

    4. Lagavulin 16 YO.

    5. The Glenrothes Select Reserve

    6. Highland Park 16 YO

    7. Glenfiddich 18 YO

    8. Cutty Sark Imperial Kingdom

    9. Cutty Sark 12 YO

    10. Islay Mist

    11. Teachers

    12. Jack Daniels

    13. Chivas

    14. Grant's Ale Cask

    15. Grant's Sherry Cask

    16. Bruichladdich 1994 - Worst whisky I ever had. Bruichladdich has some amazing whiskies, just not this one.

  5. OK, apparently the QC pics on his website are updated for the new version.

Before I pull the trigger on that, could someone point me the flaws on this one. By flaws I mean the tells for this rep (not QC flaws).

I know one tell is the rather thin, grayish bezel markings. What are the other tells?

    Thanks a lot..

  6. Thanks for the reply.

The deep brown croc is a great idea. Where can I find straps that would fit the CP? I searched online a bit, and found that the gen APROO needs some kind of a conversion kit in order to accept straps. Is it true for the rep as well?

Are there any good straps that would fit the CP available from our dealers?

    Thanks again..

  7. So, rumors are that Andrew is already selling the new watch. However, there aren't any details nor pictures of that watch yet. Rumors say it has a correct hand stack and AR'ed cyclop. I'm very interested, but does anybody have pics or "official" details about it?

  8. When I went to my current job interview, my boss was wearing a horrible PO rep. I was wearing my gen PO, and he instantly noticed it, he didn't know that I noticed it as well. He then put on a jacket and hid the watch.

Luckily, that didn't hurt my chances, but since then he doesn't wear a watch anymore. I never talked about it since then as well, but he keeps complimenting me on my watches...

  9. As some of you might recall, not long ago, Toro made a great deal for the Ebel 1911 Discovery, it was the perfect time to finally put my hands on the Discovery panda, so I've contacted Toro. I was a bit late and he only had the panda with rubber left, and none panda + SS. He then said that he does have some black dial + SS. He sent me the pics, and then it struck me that the black is absolutely amazing with the rubber, while the panda is gorgeous with the SS.

I asked Toro if I can get the panda + the SS bracelet from the black dial. He told me no problem, but I have to buy the black one as well, and he will switch the bracelets for me. Well, for that price it was a no-brainer. QC pics, very cheap and quite fast shipping, and the two watches arrived.

I really bought it for the panda, but I fell in love with the black dial. I now regard it as my best looking watch, and it really gets a lot of wrist time as it deserves...

Here's an iPhone pic (but good enough IMO):

  10. Although I did replace the bracelet (with a custom rubber strap), crown/tube & xtal (with gens), my 3-4 year-old GMT2C is from the original run & I think it looks pretty accurate

Beautiful piece, but you made some expensive mods there, and there's still one mod missing (bezel) in order to dismiss the big gray markings tell. I can get past the ICHS, since it's really not noticeable in real life. Isn't there any other GMT watch from any other brand that's more accurate than the GMTIIC?

  11. Sounds like you are moving along with crowd of people having gen watches. With reps its always going to be flaws especely with reps directly from the rep factory. If you want it more acurate you need to mod it with gen parts.

You can always search here and see for yourself, another way to go is a vintage build gmt, these can be more acurate but it costs money!

Best thing for you is probebly getting the real deal the gen. The you can sleep good at night!

Look here, member and friend Relaxman just hade this vintage gmt made by Rolexaddict, this is how good it can look, and i think this is the nicest rep gmt on rwg right now :) it looks amazing!

    It is an amazing piece...

However, you got me all wrong. I still have many reps and I don't mind minor flaws. Like I said a minor flaw is one that can't be noticed at a reasonable real life situation. I think we got to the point that most of the good reps that are coming out of the factories in the last couple of years, are good enough to pass that rule. I'm not looking for a rep that would pass a close up check next to a gen by an expert. All I want is something that won't scream "REP".

  12. What about the current crop of GMTIICs is 'not accurate at all'?

Thin, greyish marking on bezel instead of glossy white. No AR on cyclop. Wrong date font and size. ICHS. Thin hours markers.

With a Rolex you have to be much more careful, since it's an immediate suspect for a rep. IMO an accurate rep is a one that can't be called out at any reasonable real world situation. The non-AR'd cyclop for example, is very noticeable at real life and the same goes for the grey bezel markings. I hope that you're going to prove me wrong here, and there might be a version I'm not aware of out there, but unless there is - I have to pass on that GMT, and that's too bad - It's my favorite GMT by far, and I really want it to be my first Rolex.

  13. I'm looking to expand my collection with a nice GMT. I'm looking for the most accurate GMT rep out there, looks and reliability are also important. I'm not doing any mods, so it needs to be as accurate as possible OOTB.

I thought about the GMTIIC, but it's not accurate at all, and can be called out even at real world situations. Anything better out there?

    Thanks..

  14. It's not that simple.

In terms of specs, you're getting much more with the rep, try to find a good branded watch for that price that has:

    1. Auto movement.

    2. Saphire crystal.

    3. AR of any kind.

    4. Good quality SS bracelet (and not the flimsy one you usually get).

    5. Lume.

Don't bother, it would be very hard to find a good branded watch that has any of them, it would be impossible to find one with all of them.

But, those high-end specs at a low-end price come with a price - reliability. It's not only the movement, but also the dial and markers (that could fall off), water resistance, etc..

So, which is better? Think of the reps as an Italian Alpha Romeo and the cheap gens as a Japanese Toyota. Which would you prefer to own?

  15. I have the gen, and I have to say that the rep is quite good, almost nailed it.

Except the issues already raised in the thread, another flaw is the date numerals. In the gen they are silvered, in the rep they seem white.

The movement obviously is the biggest tell, but the OMEGA writing is also an easy tell.

The pearl, however, is almost perfect. It's a tiny tiny bit too big, and not perfect in shape, but it's close enough to pass in any real life situation.
