  1. Fantastic project M. You always manage to bring out the best from the best of the board. Just imagine if you actually ran your own watch company!
  2. Awesome! I know what I'll be doing this weekend! I knew a mis-spent childhood painting lead soldiers would someday pay off.
  3. Thanks for the tip! I figured it must've been some high quality acrylic paint for lead wargaming figures. I was planning to use warhammer paints, but I'll go the Vellejo route now. Are there any alternatives to Future Floor Wax for cutting the surface tension? They don't sell this where I live.
  4. Great job painting the indices! What did you use to paint them? The dial "didn't look right" before because the indices were in the original unpainted/unlumed condition which later FGD dials were sold. I would suggest not varnishing the dial and keeping it as is for now. Let it age nicely.
  5. This shoot is an instant classic! Really done with style.
  6. I'm very interested in this thread as I've been seriously contemplating treating myself to my birth-year red 1680. However, with prices for decent samples around $7-13k, and with the added uncertainty that I may be spending my hard earned money on a Franken anyways, I'm seriously considering just building my own from a Phong case, NDT dial and ETA(sacrilege!) movement. Are there any better building blocks to get a decent early 70's red 1680 for under $1500?
  7. Thanks M! Checking out the NDT now... And going through your classic 1016 threads!
  8. Post resurrection. Are there any good options for 1016 Tiffany dials today? I'm assuming the Yuki dials are to be avoided. Does Phong or Ingod have better offerings? Thanks in advance.
  9. I've always been partial to Swiss movements because I haven't had good luck with the Asian ones. Is there a general consensus from the forum experts that a serviced Asian movement is just as good as a Swiss movement?
  10. I'm trying, but keep falling short. What do you mean by 72-minute hour?
  11. I've never had the pleasure of handling a Noob 111J. Which one is it in this pic?
  12. Excellent review and pictures! Does anyone know if Andrew sells just the Ti case?
  13. I've been longing to put my FGD PreA dials to good use but haven't found a good case set so I decided to take matters into my own hands. After a few hours of filing, sanding and polishing, the victim showed promising results. Re-shaped PreA 6502 case on top in the following pics. The original shape was similar to the case in the bottom: Your comments and criticisms are welcome.
  14. Those are three very lucky guys. Amazing work!
  15. That sir. Is awesome. Congratulations.
  16. Inspiring! I need to get my Josh 5513 out of the drawer and do some work.
  17. Interesting information. Thanks for sharing this.
  18. This looks amazing! As a recent (long overdue) convert to Daytonas, I'm wearing wall clocks on my wrist less and less!
  19. jmb: Which latex binder do you use? I've usually used clear nail polish with the glow inc lume, but it dries amazingly fast.
  20. freddy333, Thanks! I'm feeling better about it already.
  21. Akira, while the watch is in pieces, why not take the opportunityto re-shape the crown side of the case? Gen 6263 (photo courtesy of D r S t r o n g at P u r i s t s p r o) As opposed to DW's. This is the only thing that's starting to bug me with the DW case. I would reach for the file myself, but I am tool challenged when it comes to disassembling Rolexes.
  22. This is beautiful! I can see now why the 7205 is a must with the 6263. Congratulations.
  23. To quote an old Chevy Chase (or maybe Dan Aykroyd) skit on SNL. "I was interested, then I lost interest. Then I was interested again." Thanks for the inspiration M. Time to look at DSN's photobucket again for the Tornek Rayville.
