I'm waiting for a new case set for my Big Pilot. I figure i'd really like to do the swap by myself.
As i have never done any work on a watch, i think i'll probably have some questions.
One i couldn't seem to find a real answer to is:
before removing the crown and stem, do the crown has to be in winding position or should i pull it out first and why is that so?

slightly different, but also good and better known

incredible prices for what used to be my dream car when i was a kid.
when it comes to jaguar, i'd love to have one of these
especially as station wagon, so cool!

Not sure if it is the best, but the big pilot is fantastic. Have a look there is a thread with pics next to a gen.
As a side note, the Big Pilot is my favourite IWC, stunning watch.

Oh, he does the high CP mod? thats great to hear!
But what is SL?
I think i'll go with getat then, with silver hands and high cannon pinion
How long did it take till you got it?
Dont use the F word we are much to refined for that!!!
I personally went for the Getat and was very happy with the quality for the price. I had him SL it and do a high CP mod. I think he will remove AR too but I did that myself when I got it. I also liked his strap but it was too small so if you have big wrists ask him if he has bigger ones. I also got the PVD version which I preferred. I also got the Skeleton movement which was a nice touch with the display caseback.

I like the look, the price and of course i wouldn't mind some quality
personally i don't look at them as fake panerai or homage watches.
I just think they are really good looking and i want to wear one!

I'm currently looking for a marina militare 1950.
Both of the dealers have one and can superlume them.
so far i know getat has realy nice straps, but jacksons strap doesn't look bad either.
So is there any difference between these? Which one should i go for?
Thanks for your input!

SLSK (soulseek) is awesome I had to get a windows based virtual pc for my mac so I could still use it
Have you tried this : http://code.google.com/p/isoul/ ?

yeah get the iMac its a good machine and it's recently been updated, so no worries to buy it just to find a new model coming out in a week or two...

it looks like a misprinting... small but no good ;(
funny thing is, my dealer actually promised me to quality check the watch before shipping. Looks like it hasn't been done. I don't even want to know about the promised waterproofing...
But anyways he seems to be a cool guy, so everything will be sorted out i think.
@ awesome you could always have a look at the modded ones from vacuum.
about the date wheel i think it is normal, but you have to look very closely to notice that.
About the spot just check whether is a particle of dust or some misprinting. If it is dust its easily removed with a blower, from the picture i cant see it to comment on that.
@awesome these watches are pretty much coming from the same factory so there is no real difference between the dealers, just make sure then will do some QC before they ship so that you wont have problem like brockelhorst is having. You can ask for picture before they ship the watch for you.
In my opinion the faux power reserve is more accurate to gen than the working version.

I'm still trying to figure out if i'll send it back or get the replacement case set. So i'm looking to find out if there are other flaws on the watch.
It looks like the dates are not exactly centered, a bit off to the top. I have looked at lots of pics on the forum, but i can't tell if this is a common issue or not?
And there is a tiny black spot/notch on the long red line of the power reserve indicator (you can barely see it on the first pic).
Seems like i'm getting really anal... But hell, i love that watch!
-
So the dealer is pretty cool, offering to send me a new case set, or to swap the watch for a new one.
Now, i'd really like to avoid sending it back.
Usually i'm kind of habile and patient, but i'm not sure if i'll be able to do such thing without messing the watch up?
Would it be a very risky thing to do, for a first time?
What do you guys think, Yay or Nay?
In case of Nay, would it be very expensive to have it done by a watchsmith ?
Anyone knows a good one in the paris area?
All these question again, feels like it will never end
-
ok thank you guys! i'll give it a try
-
Ok cool, so no worries about that.
Ladies love it (even mine) and it really jumps into the eyes. I have gotten some pretty strange looks from men so far. I guess it's jealousy
Yes, it's normal. Enjoy this watch. Mine has gotten me laid quite a few times. Ladies love the Big Pilot!

I'm thinking of ordering a 1950s from Getat and have some questions.
How do i contact him, is he on the forums or should i go via his website?
Is he reliable?
-
I would say the date wheel is still slighty sunken, but that doesn't bother me (yet)
Another thing i have noticed is, while i unscrew or screw down the crown it feels as if it winds the movement.
Is this normal?
-
Yes it came that way. first i thought it was on the outside, but no, its on the inside.
I think i'll contact the dealer.
Did you take off the plastic protection sticker?
Just kidding....
Yes you should complain about it.
It seems like a problem with the AR. Did it came from the a dealer like this?
The first models came with a problem like this but I thought it was solved.
Any way, you need a replacement crystal.

well come get the camera out and lets see it then, ya big baby
Hey...it's been 3.5 hrs since the last post...where are the pics???

in The IWC Area

hmm, i don't know that shop but it looks really not good to me... way to expensive.
I think you should stick with one of the trusted dealers here in the forums.
