  1. Holy damn, is this a NICE watch!

    DO NOT DELAY. BUY NOW!!!

It's been posted about before, but here's the deal:

Band is very heavy & solid & feels great out of the box. A little cleaning & a baby oil bath & it's butter. The only additional work was to radius some sharp edges on the clasp (2 minutes with a Dremel) and re-size (with a hammer, Vise Grip pliers and a paperclip - no B.S.).

The clasp & deployant work fine. The letters & logo are deeply engraved. "P" and "O" are larger than the rest of the letters in PLANET OCEAN.

The watch head is very nice. Well polished, 120 click bezel, rep-issue pearl, painted (thermographed?) orange numerals, blue tint on crystal (not really anti-reflective it seems). Caseback is nicely finished, again with the larger "P" and "O". Lume is Nicolas Cage (i.e. gone in 60 seconds).

Watch is delivered very securely wrapped & packed. 'Came with a velvet gift bag & a cleaning cloth.

'Wound the watch and it's lost only 5 seconds over a 24 hour period. Nice.

The flaws I have found with this rep: Are you kidding me? This watch was DELIVERED for 65 quid!!! I'd be a complete and total tool to even suggest that there is a flaw in a watch like this that cost little more than a Timex!

My pics suck, but a thread without pics sucks even more!

  2. Hmmm

Not the most detailed answer here....

I wouldn't expect someone to rehash the problem. It's not in the style of the board.

    Dealer is gone.

    Done.

You can prob find them with some research, but if they've been booted, it was for a good reason.

  3. The beauty and worth of such time pieces is in the movement...

Sorry, but I'm not buying it any more (literally).

For example, some complications sell for $200K, but they are "made by hand and take several thousand man-hours to produce".

OK, so one watchmaker spends a full working year building one watch. How much dos he get paid for that year?

How much of the rest of the money goes to advertising & intermediate profits?

Gen mfgrs. hate the rep industry because it shows how ridiculously overpriced the gens are. Screw the logos and branding; buy a good homage that is made with a true ETA (or other) mvmt. and you've got a watch that is as good as (or in some cases better than) the gen.

Take a gen Rolex & swap the movement for a good-quality non-Rolex one. It'll look the same, tell time the same, and might even require LESS service.

It's all hype and brand posturing, IMHO.

  4. And this is the quartz model? Damn, I got the one with the fat crown, no accent in tachymetre, but it has the domed crystal.

'Looks like I may be getting in touch with Sarah for a special order. It seems no one on any board can help me with a crown/stem mod.

    Dang...

    :wounded1:

Mine arrived today and I can confirm that the engraving is quite shallow, its crisp but no more than a few thou deep.

However, this watch represents excellent value. For what I paid, its really very good.

The end links are a bit rough underneath but who's gonna see it. The strap is not stiff at all and its well polished.

Again, its an absolute bargain with the $20 discount that Watcheden are offering at the moment.

Even if its only used to pratice decasing or removing hands its worth it.

Congrats to the OP for discovering this little gem :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  5. I think your right TeeJay.If you actually break it down your probably paying 25% cost of the watch itself and 75% for the brand name.

Don't forget that most AD's mark up their pieces 100%. This puts it at 50%=markup, 37.5%=marketing, 12.5%= watch. So that $5,000 PO is really worth just over $600. Now THAT's more like it! Gen = double the (good)rep price.

(Ain't it nice to go to a dealer and see a price on a watch, then have them offer a discount before you even start seriously discussing the item?)

  6. Where does one hunt down a 4th gen PO?

I've heard that none of the dealers have them unless it's stock that they don't know is 4th Gen and it gets mixed in with the others.

Am I correct in believing (from reading many posts), that the latest version is not quite as good as the 4th Gen?

    Rob
