  1. RPGs really? Can you hear yourself? so where do you stop with the arms race? nuclear? full blown annihilation of both sides? That's sound like a "great" idea. Look at Japan, no guns, no "me against you" mentality when things go bad. Even after a major disaster like the tsumami they kept civility and worked to help each other. What a contrast with Katrina where some gun nuts where using the poor as target practice. With a society like ours where a few think this is acceptable more fire power is just insanity.
  2. I highly doubt you will get a replacement of such a unique crystal with better quality than the noob. If someone claims that I would be very skeptical.
  3. so do you honestly believe with the forms of government we have today (elected officials, decentralized states rights, checks and balances of power, free press, social media, etc. etc.) that we are at risk to become a place like Libya or Syria? And even if this total absurd notion was possible (which is not, not matter how much history you try to bring), do you seriously believe that if you feel the need to start your own army and defeat a government that you don't agree with that drone attacks alone would not render whatever arsenal you have useless? Look at the Waco siege. All those AK-47s and AR-15s did those guys no real good other than getting killed. Don't be fooled, those weapons are not necessary in the civilian society. Don't fall for the manufacturers propaganda. It seriously reminds me of when cigarette manufacturers did everything they could to deny the health risks of their products (and of course die hard smokers believed them). Today that's not even a discussion and there are very sensible rules in place (some better than others) to protect the innocent from the smoking habits of few. You can still go anywhere and buy cigarettes (if you are of legal age) but you can't selfishly affect others with your habit. So for anything in a civilized society limits are beneficial for the majority, specially in case of dangerous things like guns and cigarettes. Yes, human beings have not yet evolved to the point where guns are not necessary (unless you are talking about Japan during the tsunami crisis, what an example). That doesn't mean we need to have a wild west mentality on our streets.
  4. What happened to the one on the watch? What version do you have (Noob, H)? The best option would be to try one of the dealers. I find it hard to believe there's a readily available replacement for an AR treated thick crystal with a carved in cyclops.
  5. I think it's a mistake to try to reduce this complex problem to simplistic arguments like education, armed guards in schools and other places, armed teachers (really??), fix mental health, etc. The complexity of the root causes for a guy to take a Bushmaster and put 11 bullet holes in little kids can't be even speculated correctly let alone understood and fixed. As a parent (and I believe a reasonable good one) all you can do is to do your best and hope your kids follow your teachings. However the society is complex with many outside influences so blaming the parents is not a fair statement. So if I have concerns about the influences acting on my kids what to think of the kids in families that do not have the same luxury of a stable household like mine (single moms, abusive parents, foster kids, etc.). There's no one size fix all in this problem. What I believe is there is no argument for you to have high capacity magazines and military style weapons in a civilian society and they should be prohibited the same way that machine guns, tanks, rocket launchers and nuclear devices are. There is no argument to allow someone to walk into a gun show and buy whatever they want without a background check or a any kind of paper trail. The radicalization of the opposition to those sensible matters shows that when you are in the wrong side of a debate and your arguments fail all that is left is absurdity. PS: with all this talk about fixing mental health I believe an important one would be to addressed is the paranoia of those that think the "man" is out to get you ("we need guns to defend the populous against their own government", "it's kill or be killed", "the government is out to take all my guns", etc.) From Wikipedia "Paranoia [ˌpærəˈnɔɪ.ə] (adjective: paranoid [ˈpærə.nɔɪd]) is a thought process believed to be heavily influenced by anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion. Paranoid thinking typically includes persecutory beliefs, or beliefs of conspiracy concerning a perceived threat towards oneself. (e.g. "Everyone is out to get me.") Making false accusations and the general distrust of others also frequently accompany paranoia. For example, an incident most people would view as an accident or coincidence, a paranoid person might believe was intentional."
  6. well a vast number of them can't be enforced due to the legislative "imagination" of the NRA backed politicians. Look at fmr. rep Todd Tiahrt (R-KS), he prevented a number of efforts in Congress claiming all those laws already in place and that all that was needed as for the ATF to enforce them. Then he goes and puts a number of amendments and new laws (including a very sneaky Patriot Act provision) that cripples the ATF and put enforcement of EXISTING laws in the hands of politicians (like the provision to get the ATF director confirmed by the Senate, which is unprecedented). So yes, we need reform and we need for the NRA lobbying to lose power so reasonable rules can be created and enforced. Some say the laws didn't work in the past and that's correct so the answer is to look at why they didn't (NRA pressure, for instance) and eliminate the roadblocks. The "more guns" and "Mad Max style" society are NOT the answers.
  7. that's my point about irresponsible gun ownership. Honestly I rather live where I am that the police (people that are trained and know how to react) will show up in 5-10 min when my house alarm goes off (which is a huge deterrent of crimes here) than to have to rely on spending time with tactical training in the off chance I can stop an armed person from harming anyone in my house.
  8. Sorry but that's the kind of poorly constructed thought that makes reasonable discussions pointless. Teachers with guns is a very bad idea. I'm not sure about you but the same way I want drivers on the road to be responsible and proficient with their machines I hope people that decide to get a gun to be VERY proficient with their guns. Teachers dont' have the time or money to get get proper tactical training. Arguments like putting guns inside schools is just clinging to straws when you're in the wrong side of a debate.
  9. The donkey seems to be up when the other car with the trailer passes by it. Then it lay down on the ground until the Google car comes close. After the Google car passes you can see the donkey up on the left side of the road moving away if you rotate the camera.
  10. from a Hublot AD or Timezone. There's no replica of this watch available.
  11. I tried searching google for "bow and arrow mass murder" and this case with 2 victims plus the killer is the only one I could find. For firearms it's very easy to find them in the hundreds. http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/07/mass-shootings-map Not sure if saying anyone with any kind of weapon could kill a lot of people is an argument that's holds a lot of water. I'm sure if the guy in Sandy Hook had a bow and arrow the school principal and the counselor would be able to stop him instead of getting killed. PS: It would be perfectly fine if people wanted to go around carrying concealed bows and arrows
  12. both dealers will sell the same watch. I don't think anyone would be faster since it really depends on the postal service. Better service that's a subjective and sometime swing and miss situation, For the movement stay with Asian. It's cheaper and the Swiss version they sell may not be any better. Just one thing about the black dial Timewalker. The genuine has a single AR on the crystal and the reps do not. For the white dial that's not a big deal but it's kind of distracting with the black dial. Getting this modification done with the Timewalker is not that simple.
  13. no, it's totally stock. Some folks have relumed it, some have removed the outer AR and feel it gets a better color to the lume. I'm happy with it as is
  14. that's why the government has the power of taxation. Maybe a combination of education and taxation like it was done with smoking would bring some balance to the national discussion.
  15. I have nothing against you having a gun inside your house and I'd be the first one to say you have the right to defend your home if someone invades it although I agree with Ken that in the tragic events in Nanuq's family even having a gun wouldn't help you answering the door. You would have to be expecting trouble and be ready with your gun at all times, which is unlikely for most. The carjacking incident and Nanuq's road rage incident with his son imho are examples of having a gun over someone without one is an obvious advantage. However the NRA theory is that everyone should have a gun and carry it at all times. If the guy going after Nanuq's son came firing a semi-auto high caliber rapid fire weapon instead of a hammer I'm not sure the outcome would have been so peaceful. Somehow I have this image of OK Corral when I hear people saying that everyone carrying guns on the streets is a good idea.
  16. Puretime is ok. Never heard of anything bad about them and Angus (the guy that owns it) actively participate in a few forums. Most of the dealers in the trusted seller area would be good. As far the Timewalker goes I'd really recommend you go with the new A7753 model. http://puretime.co/product/timewalker-chrono-ss-black-dial-11-noob-best-edition-on-ss-bracelet-a7753/ The ones for around $250 are the old 7750 based ones that are incorrect in many ways. Spend a little more and get the 7753 based on (and that's only available with Asian movements which is fine).
  17. I'd like to see show of hands of people that have been personally saved (real cases not imaginary ones to try to make a point) from harm by having a loaded gun ready (apart from law enforcement and those that live in the wilderness surrounded by dangerous wild life). I keep hearing that you would be safer with a gun around but I sincerely doubt that's the case. In all my years I can't recall one instance where being armed would have helped me. I have been robbed twice (small stuff) and in both cases it was group against me (never saw a gun though but there was an assumption they could be armed). Even if I was a marksman I would not take a gang of armed thugs, that would just be stupid. One of the things that most concern me in Texas is some jackass with a gun in his car that decides to shoot someone that cuts them off and a bullet finds its way into my car. Having a loaded gun in the glove compartment wouldn't do me any good in that case.
  18. In all 50 states If you own a car that has to be registered with the DoT. If your car is used in a felony the law comes after you. Owning a car like owning a gun is not a lifestyle. In many states guns have to be registered like it's common sense. Equating the registry of a weapon that can be used for all kinds of felonies to STDs is the type of reductio ad absurdum arguments that make discussions around sensible gun control measures pointless. PS: many states have disclosure laws for things like HIV since an infected person can cause lethal harm to others.
  19. all fun conversation but still doesn't explain 1) why do we need high capacity magazines and assault rifles on the streets 2) why can't we have reasonable regulations like background checks (stopping the absurd that goes on in gun shows), safety requirements (safes, training, etc.) and registries that can help law enforcement to trace stolen guns?
  20. Libya was mostly NATO. Egypt was based on the army taking sides against the Mubarak regime. Syria is still a slaughter being held by Russia and China interests in the arms trade with Assad (in fact most of those conflicts are driven partially by the need for profit of defense contractors). Besides there's always some financial interest with all those insurgences and some gun lobby providing armaments to both sides (central Africa, middle east, north Africa, you name it.). So even if there were a total ban/confiscation of guns in this country (which won't happen) you can be sure guns will find their way into people's hands. The actual power of a few doomsday folks with powerful guns is negligent. If guys with guns believe that's not the case more power to them but 18th century examples of warfare are not really applicable today.
  21. Syria anyone? Besides if another Civil War happens in this day and age the US armed forces would quickly decide the victorious side NOT the tiny percentage of trained armed citizens in this country. Do not fool yourself.
  22. I find these kinds of proposals very disingenuous. First most NRA backers are staunch conservatives that feel they somehow need guns to protect themselves against the government (right, like having some guns at home would be a deterrent against the armed forces) so the idea of having state funded armed guards everywhere goes against their paranoid need for guns. Second they are the first ones to propose cuts for on-duty police officers and other important public safety expenditures. Saying now they will somehow support spending more government money on off-duty police is really a stretch.
  23. Correct. Scalia admits the 2nd amendment has limits. http://www.businessinsider.com/scalias-2008-second-amendment-opinion-2012-12 Scalia, a strict interpreter of the Constitution, said there's an "important limitation" on the right to bear arms. "We think that limitation is fairly supported by the historical tradition of prohibiting the carrying of 'dangerous and unusual weapons'," Scalia wrote I missed your point on the Constitution. It wasn't clear to me that you are advocating that historically amendments were never designed to take away rights but to extend them, so there's no evidence that this would be the case now. Personally I don't believe we need new amendments as the current ones just needs clarification by the SCOTUS and even new regulations wouldn't take away anyone's actual rights. Finally not to split hairs but the USA were formed AFTER the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were written so in the history of the USA there was no scenario were the people lived under a dictator rule. Using the colonial time as as example of what might happen in the future of this Federation is absurd (in fact using any 18th social constructs as basis for today's society for that matter).
