  1. for you to have a full appreciation of the hard work involved use this link http://www.eta.ch/swisslab/7750/7750.html check the assembly track. It shows you how to reassemble a 7750 with all its numerous parts with the correct oils (check the oils chart) and where/when they should be used. It will take a long time (and a lot of specialized tools) for you get close to service a 7750. Unless you are looking for a very laborious and expensive way to spend your time I'd suggest you let a professional do it for you. Also consider the economics. It will cost you around $200 to have a 7750 serviced. How long do you plan to keep the watch? People won't pay you back the full price of a service if you decide to sell your Tags in 4 months.
  2. make sure to buy a new sealed ETA movement if you decide to make the change. Many places describe watch with Swiss movement but there are no guarantees you won't have dry jewels or dirt in them. From an engineering point of view the A6497 and the ETA one are basically the same. The only difference like wolf said is the service. Service needs vary with condition. Many people say you should service your movement every 5 years. I think the most important thing for reliability is to have the movement serviced at least once (to make sure all the dirt is gone).
  3. given that during a movement review by G () he found all kinds of dirt inside with little or no lubrication I'm not surprised. Many of these 7753 may need service soon.
  4. It's a neighborhood in Miami located on an island between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic. The name probably comes from the Bal Harbour Shops which are famous for its high end stores. Panerai probably has a boutique there.
  5. I like Hublots but I can't shake the feel most of their designers spend all day long with a CAD version of a watch playing with colors. If you take a BW pic of this new one it looks almost like the all ceramic Aero Bang.
  6. w0lf, the point I'm trying to make is that the Italian Navy special forces (flotilla mas) had a mission within the Navy to man torpedoes and sink ships. During WWI they fought against Germany and Austria-Hungry. In WWII they fought the allies in the battles of the Mediterranean. Same people same training told what to do by the powers above. The role of Panerai was to equip the Italian Navy with instruments for its ships and personnel. Panerai was an Italian company working for the Italian military much like Boeing and Lockheed do for the US government. Their method of underwater assault was very brave and effective to the point the British copied their methods and technology at the end of WWII. It's always emotional to attach stigma from the politics of those orchestrating the wars to the people that a mission to fulfill. I for one admire the ingenuity and courage of strapping myself to a torpedo with a rudder, plant a bomb on a hull of a large ship and get out of there using 3 simple instruments to do so. The atrocities of WWII are undeniable but to consider a vintage Panerai a symbol of Nazism or fascism is a bit of a stretch imho. If you do that any technology related to any war at all could follow the same trend: the VW bug, rockets that came from Germany and eventually led to the Saturn V, GPS, airplanes, etc.
  7. back to the original question, if you research the story of the decima flottiglia mas you will see them as a bunch of brave navy servicemen that had a mission to defend their country in time of war. Regardless of what Mussolini's ambitions were, these guys were brave divers way before the politics played a part. Panerai was the manufacturer that provided instruments for the Italian Navy at the time. When they were asked to build instruments for the special forces they did it, much like any defense contractor will do regardless if they agree with the politicians or not. Case in point when Italy turned against Germany after Mussolini was ousted in 43 many joined the allies to fight Germany. I think confusing the horological history of Panerai, the actions of a military special forces at a time of war and the politics of crazy leaders like Hitler and Mussolini is not very helpful.
  8. fake imho The buckle is way too pristine. The damage on the leather doesn't translate to the stitches (again too "new" for a 30's strap). The holes are barely used. The only thing vintage there is material in Voker's book underneath.
  9. yep, I was fooled too. I guess something got lost in the translation. My dealer probably assumed as "readily available" the fact the A7753 movement was ready and being worked on the new PAMs.
  10. That's interesting because all the rumors started with a dial and that's not on the list
  11. the question is: does he offer parts that other dealers don't? if yes then it's not just a question of saving a few bucks. I'm curious to hear more
  12. most likely the winding gear will have to be replaced and the movement cleaned/serviced since you will have all kinds of metal shavings spread across the plates (effectively what happens is for the winding wheel teeth to be ground) . That's not something you can do by yourself and since this is a rep most watchsmith won't work on it. Your best bet is to send to The Zigmeister, Speedy or Vac. This will cost you around $200.
  13. It's not recommended to manually wind the A7750. Depending on how fast you do it you will destroy the winding gears. Your watch is automatic so you don't have to wind it manually. The big rotor in the back will put power on the mainspring with the right amount of force so the gears won't break. The chronos use a lot more power than the regular seconds wheel. It will take more power to start the watch if the chrono is engaged.
  14. The issue is cost not capability. LH spends a lot of money to refinish the bridges and it's not 100%. Closed casebacks are a lot cheaper to manufacture and their profit will be higher. I doubt we will see anything great if it comes out.
  15. I doubt any 111 rep will be decent. BTW, this rumor has been around since Jan. The 187 is great news and logical next step for the 7753 based PAMs. I'm anxiously waiting for it.
  16. it seems the power reserve is down which means you need a service. When the oils start to go the gears use more power than needed. This is normal with any mechanical movement. You need someone with experience to do it though, not something you can do yourself.
  17. Face to face is the best way to see if the watch matches the pictures. I'm curious to see if he will answer to the request of more pictures. If not that's not a good sign.
  18. actually it does. Financial institutions will stop transaction if there's a suspicion of fraud or money laundry. It's getting worse everyday.
  19. That's how the E series engraving on the 112 is suppose to look. You may be confusing with the inverse engraving you find on the later series. That caseback looks good.
