  1. I wish you'd quit putting up pics of that or I'm gonna be forced to "liquidate" something and build one!

    Rose on a Strap

Kurt, this doesn't have a screw down crown or threaded tube. I appreciate the offer, maybe some day I'll tap the case for a different tube, then... Is it 5.3 or 6?

    Rose on a Strap

No, no, this is authentic age!!! The macro lens is not very flattering, it is barely noticeable in-the-flesh!
  4. I have been buying old off-brand watches with ETA movements to use as movement donors for projects and to practice servicing. So far I'm batting a pretty good average but I have a 2824 that has a screw broken off in one of the movement clamp/tab holes. Can somebody tell me what this thread is? I need to strip it down and service it anyway so I can drill and re-tap the hole in the main plate while it's torn down...
  5. I switched to this after lunch in order to test a "new" movement...
  6. Just an update on my little Tudor Small Rose no-date project. After putting the guts into this old case I realized that whether I liked straps or not it needed to be on one. Here is the finished product with a nice simple black leather strap courtesy of mcotter - Thanks, M! Here a couple pics... And one on the wrist...
  7. The gen Datejust cases I've messed with have been 36mm. The Tudor "Jumbo" is 38mm and there definitely is a difference in feel. Maybe you'll need to switch to Tudor!
  8. Thanks! Curling the mainspring back into the barrel was actually one of the most difficult parts.
  9. I'll have to order some of that. I have ultrasonic cleaner and rinse. The movement (2555) has obvious signs that it has been serviced many, many times over the years and is probably about worn out. :-( I have an ETA 2651, that that shows much less wear, that I might swap into it if the dial feet fit. On a side note, I just finished my first movement service yesterday (ETA 2824) and it actually runs!! I have popped it into my Air-King franken to test but so far it's keeping excellent time. I'm sure I used too much oil but I was very surprised it even started ticking!
  10. A 34mm Rollie or Tudor with folded bracelet can't be beat for comfort. The weight is nil and the slinky folded link band is so comfortable you forget you are wearing it!
  11. I would imagine all the "big-boyz" would have it... I mis-stated the size, got Jumbo Tudor on the brain! The DJ II is about 41mm, at least the ones on watcheden/idolreplicas sites state 41mm. I'm not that wild about 'em, if I want to wear a 40mm watch I'll put on a Sub...
  12. There is a new DJ II which has a 38mm case, I believe. I'm ordering a 38mm case to see what they are like...
  13. I'm going to assume something was binding up the hairspring. I put it back on the timer and it showed 4 min/day fast face down so I took most of the movement apart, removed and reinstalled the balance, and after I got it back together it read 8 sec/day fast - I can live with that! I could not see anything "binding" just by looking at it. I guess it was good that I had to do this as the screws in the auto-wind and train bridges were all lose! Thanks for the responses!
  14. Wearin' "Old Faithful", my most tortured and abused watch...
  15. Something a bit bigger today!
  16. Some very old Tudor dials had no logo on them but I don't know that the "Sub" has been around that long. I have a no-logo dial I built into a 34mm case with like Tudor script and no logo.
  17. Let's get this ball rolling!

    TT sub dial

I dug through the junk box and I have a rep that I kinda boogered around the edge trying to "shrink" it and I also have a new rep black TT dial.
  19. Wabbit, some of the cartel boyz cases use the oversized retention ring w/plastic shim which will likely cause you some heartburn attempting a crystal change. You might get lucky and be able to get everything pressed back together, but if not PM me for options. I have installed gen tubes in these cases and it's just a matter of removing the old tube, running a tap through to clean threads, slightly countersink the tube hole in the case, and thread the new tube in with blue Loc-Tite...
  20. I'm sure this will be priceless to you, and so it should. I used to wear one of those, and a later model with chrono functions. I think they were the best digital watches out there. It looks good, excellent! I've got my ol' man's Seiko in a drawer, somewhere, it's analog and extremely thin. Guess I need to find it and see if it still works.
  21. Oh, nice... Well, I'm still "blue" for today...
