  1. Nice looking tools. Mine are a bit larger but I can still do some fairly precise work on them.
  2. Cats, that looks maybe like some ferrous bits were stuck into the surface and they are what rusted... Damn, Demsey! OK, gospel according to Webster... Main Entry: Ludd·ite Pronunciation: \ˈlə-ˌdīt\ Function: noun Etymology: perhaps from Ned Ludd, 18th century Leicestershire workman who destroyed a knitting frame Date: 1811 : one of a group of early 19th century English workmen destroying laborsaving machinery as a protest; broadly : one who is opposed to especially technological change
  3. "'Search' scares me. " Gee, Demsey, don't be a luddite
  4. Fantastic craftsmanship, what is your "micro-mill"? I have a small rotary table ordered for my mill (it just shipped) and I am contemplating building a case from scratch. If anybody has some "engineering drawings" for a Submariner case I would be very interested. I don't see why an exact copy couldn't be made that would at least be interchangeable with Gen. Of course, without CNC it might be cost prohibitive but ya never know unless ya try!
  5. Demsey, I WISH I could do some analysis but the only "metalurgical" testing tool I have access to is a hardness tester!
  6. Gadget, I'm so jealous of your crystal your watch looks noticeably better than mine from just a month ago! That's what I get for being an "early adopter", never again. :-\ I guess I'll have to start thinking about a crystal... I still have a question for any DSSD "Expert" - I notice on my V5 the He valve can still be depressed from the outside which to me seems just wrong. I am betting this one should also be epoxied even before hitting the shower or washing hands?
  7. I will be heading there to check things out! Good luck...
  8. I believe it takes a 6mm crown, at least that's what I put on mine and it looks correct.

  10. I am drooling, without a doubt one of the best looking watches of all time!! But, someday soon I'll have one almost like it!!!
  11. I normally don't like stuff without CGs but this is really nice! Very interesting that they decided to only put lug holes on one side!
  12. Fantastic tutorial, your pics turned out a lot better than mine when I'm trying to tear something apart and click the shutter at the same time! :-P
  13. Very nice "roadmap" to a better looking watch! I can say (from my limited experience) that the hardest part is often trying to decide just where to start and what to do! Any task, no matter how complex, can be broken down into many smaller and less intimidating steps.
  14. My God, that thing is downright scary looking! No offense...
  15. I think he must grow "medicinal herbs" in his backyard and partake of same...
  16. Very "soul satisfying" experience! Looks very nice - wear it proudly! Yes, now you're hooked we expect a few more! ;-)
  17. Andy, perfect mod project to "inlay" a good shockproof movement into the grip, or something!
  18. TeeJay, I was torn between this and the white dial and really thought I remembered ordering the white dial but looking back I didn't. I'm glad I got the black one, too. I'm somewhat reluctant to publicly disclose "the source" as sometime in the past they were added to the "scammer list" on at least two forums. From what I could research it was all due to one complaint from one member and I felt there were some "extenuating" circumstances involved so I initially gave them a try with a small purchase. If anybody really wants to know they can PM me. But, once you add in the WU fees and shipping it's not as good a deal unless you buy more than one. They also have a "Swiss Movement" line (Asian clone 2386, 7750, etc.)which I feel is overpriced and not much of a bargain but the "bargain bin" has not turned out too bad. I do kinda like these cases as the CGs aren't as fat as most and the ones I've drilled seem to be a harder grade of steel than most "budget" reps. I think it'll be a while before I buy any more as I probably have plenty to play with and practice on for a while...
  19. I received the latest addition to my "Budget Collection" today and thought I'd post a few pics before I had to head off to work. I haven't really had a chance to research this model very much but at a glance it looks "reasonable" and feels good on the wrist - I think I'll wear it to work this evening! This was from the same seller as my "No-Date Submariner" and the fit/finish and feel was the same. My only gripe is that this band appears to be made from that mysterious "Steblehox" crap that my last budget watch's band was made from! All-in-all, though, I don't think I can complain much considering the $33.90 outlay as I think it's probably worth at least that much if parted out!
  20. TeeJay, very slick and it looks great!
  21. Yeah, a .380 would be about right but my 1911 or Mod 29 Smith would sorta hang over a bit! :-p
  22. Nice concept. I'd have to buy a small gun to fit in it, though, don't think any of mine would fit... :-D
  23. Hmmm, sounds a bit extreme, but then again somehow rather fun at the same time!
