That's the "direct sunlight" making it look deep. In real life it's only about .0025" - .003" deep - a sheet of paper is about .005" thick for comparison purposes.
I think I have finally got the hang of engraving between the lugs, mostly, so have worked up programs for a couple of the Subs so far. Here's a 16613 I just finished...
Unfortunately the "old" cases with the 18k stamp on the back of one lug are no longer available. The cases I've been getting for the past several months have no 18k stamping but unfortunately, for you anyway, the "dimples" are a bit higher on the lug. But, being higher makes it easier for me to relocate the holes... I have begged for cases before the lug dimples were made and have been told that unless I wanted to order a huge batch no changes could be made.
Good luck, you have probably a 50-50 chance at best. The guy I get parts from told me (when I asked about ordering an SEL bracelet) that all guarantees were out the window unless the bracelet and case was from the same "factory". Bracelets with separate end-pieces are not that gig of a deal.
Very cool! I know that a lot of people are experimenting with "concrete polymer" frames for things like lathes due to the rigidity but I never thought of speaker cabinets! I'm really a wood nut and I wonder how it would work out to cast some panels to use as a "liner" for the interior of a wood cabinet?
I appreciate the enthusiasm but getting a kick-a$$ machining center would be the easy part, finding somewhere to put it would be something else altogether!
I'm glad this attempt has met with the collective's approval! Serial number requests can be accommodated and although my "purpose in life" (thanks, M) has been a decent explorer I can probably do other models as long as I can find some examples. I do foresee problems making some of the vintage engraving looking hand done, though...
This case is not perfect but I think it's as close as I can get without making it cost too much. It would be really nice to have a nice $20k CNC machining center that would take a chunk of 316 and turn out a finished case with the touch of a button!
Nah, I think he's pulling our leg on that one. I think I recognize that one from his "Vintagizing for Dummies" series, you know, the one he drives over with his truck. Can't say I'm surprised, was bound to happen sooner or later...
