  1. I have ordered a 4 axis breakout board for my engraver controller and I'm going to try to build a rotary 4th axis. If successful I may be able to do serial numbers and stuff. This is a few months down the road, though... Looking good on the watch! Hope this reply doesn't blow up the forum like the last one did!
  2. Very nice! Maybe abuse the hands a bit more?
  3. Oh, how convenient! I guess this was timed so we can blame all of the database issue on you!!
  4. Congrats, Mike, for joining the fraternity of abused, unappreciated, and generally maligned folks who are the unfortunate fortunate few who get stuck selected for this thankless job from hell prestigious honor. Being a forum admin on a different site I can relate...
  5. Let me see if this blows up when I post.
  6. I really feel bad... That's what you get for polishing it! I've also got a lot of PMs with lots of entries missing, this really sux!!
  7. Oh-No! Looking at this more it appears that when I replied all of the other thread entries disappeared except my reply. I hope the system is not trying to tell us something about it's DB integrity...
  8. FORUM BRAIN-FART!! I have no idea, I was replying to a different thread, submitted reply, got an error, and found my reply as a new post!!
  9. That just sounds, well, stupid! Tell him to just get a decent rep...
  10. I don't think so, you'll need to lathe or dremel the ID a little bit... Of course, if you needed another case kit and specified you were going to use a Felsa then I could fit one for you...
  11. Thank you for remembering but it's actually how I became a "Certified Cheap Ba$tard"!
  12. Asian clone is just fine, they have came a long way over the past several years...
  13. I'm wondering if the PR might be a function of the slower beat rate, I guess I need to time this one and see. I have two more waiting for builds...
  14. I believe they have about the same stem position as a 2836 so I have used them instead of a 2846...
  15. What I'm saying is it would be a good piece to experiment on if someone was inclined to learn a few modding skills. When I started out I bought up a half dozen dhgate $40 Subs and went to drillin' and grindin'...
  16. I have been using the "best quality" asian clones for several years and they started around $60 but today they are over $100. I picked up a Hamilton movement the other day that also looks promising...
  17. As the price of ETA 2824 movements, and their clones, continues to skyrocket faster then Obama's fib count it might be time to think outside of the box. Here is one option that currently is relatively inexpensive and appears to be an excellent quality movement. I had never even heard of these until StoneP asked me to build him an Explorer around one of them. StoneP's Explorer used a Felsa 4007 which I removed the date guts from and discovered that by gluing the dial directly to the movement the resulting "assembly" had the same stem position as a 2824 with dial spacer! Once the watch was finished it was kind of neat watching the 18000 vph 5 beats per second, very nostalgic. I decided to order me a few of these and found them quite reasonable from $30 - $50 each. Today I had some spare time and decided to build me one and thought I'd post a couple of pics. I used one of my case kits and all I needed to do was to modify the movement spacer that comes with the kit but reducing it's ID a few thousandths, use a smaller diameter scrw on the movement tabs, and one tab needed to be a bit skinnier that what we normally use on the ETA movements. On StoneP's build I had to crimp the tubes on all the hands but on this movement the hour and minute hands were a perfect fit and only the tube on the sweep hand needed to be crimped. Here's a couple pics of the installed movement:
  18. When I first saw this I instantly thought of "Rube Glodberg" machines! After watching the video I had to admit it was pretty slick but really don't see the point other than an engineering exercise - especially for $25 large!! http://www.gizmag.com/pierre-deroche-tnt-royal-retro/32881/?utm_source=Gizmag+Subscribers&utm_campaign=fe2ab06a45-UA-2235360-4&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_65b67362bd-fe2ab06a45-91361285
  19. Thanks, photon, I wasn't trying to show off the crystal but showing that a glass magnifier can be glued to a plexi crystal.
  20. Really, the CGs and crown are not that bad. If you did a dial, hand set, DWO, and bracelet Clasp swap it would make a passable beater!
  21. I bought a Prada bag from Ken for wive.gov and all the ladies where she works were green with envy and it has held up well.
  22. One more thing you can possibly do is carefully epoxy a glass magnifier to the T21. When I built a crystal for my DW Montecarlo case I had to glue on a magnifier...
  23. Don't think I've ever ran across an M3x.35 thread repair insert before. When I have worked on cases with a messed up tube hole I've JB-Welded the tube in. If it was a high-dollar case I might be inclined to drill and thread larger, epoxy in a "plug", then drill and tap it to correct size.
  24. Rob, if you ever received that insert bring it over and we'll try to make a bezel for it...
