  1. Having just taken up rollerblading (I'm 36, and the only reason I did was my 6 year old has just got a pair and demanded I did too!) I broke a pin on the bracelet of my gen Seamaster yesterday when I fell over, stopped myself on my watch hand and put pressure on the strap.

I've changed these before, but don't have any spare split pins to do it again. Last time I went to a watch repair stand they claimed they were too weird and wonderful to have instock and would need ordering from Omega. The decent watch shops near me have Rolex, Omegas and Panerais but none keep any spares - anyone any tips for getting a couple of spare pins easily, quickly and cheaply? I'm in the UK. Happy to change myself (it's a bugger of a job hence wanting a couple so I have a spare!)

    Cheers guys

  2. Brush fiberglass pen.. Watch bitz has them.. it refinishes your brushed finish.. I use it periodically on my UOP bracelet.. if your in the EU cousins also has them..

you can also use a "pen eraser".. but make sure your stokes are even.. it's best to use "one way' strokes.. the pen eraser takes out light scratches very nicely.. the fiberglass refinishing pen makes them look new again..

This is a vintage Doxa that had been pretty scratched up.. used the pen to refinish it.

Well, what do you know? Got one of these I'm my car toolbox for treeatibg surface rust: tried it out and it works great! Thanks!

  3. Hello to all, I'm new to the world of watch reps so please excuse my complete lack of knowledge on the subject!

I have always lusted after an Omega Speedmaster Pro 'Moon Watch' but always knew I would never be able to afford one. It was only after a friend of my father suggested he bring me back a replica from Thailand later this year that I started looking online to see if I could find such a thing. There seems to be a bewildering array of suppliers offering replicas at vastly differing prices, and I am also further restricted in that I'm in the UK and wary of ordering from abroad due to Parcel Force/HM Customs slapping duty and charges on top of my purchase. Can anyone offer some advice as to who to look at and who to run a mile from? I have a limited budget but still would like to get the most 'bang for my buck', and I'm not looking for 100% accuracy as I don't think any of my pals would be able to spot any 'imperfections'!

Any advice would be most greatly received, thanks in advance!

Reg/Narikaa. He's great. Try one of his Planet Oceans for 68 quid as a tester, they're brilliant.

  4. Sweet! This is nearly the same watch I'm waiting on ('cept pvd with stealth face and blue lume)... so I'm more interested on what YOU reckon... Are you happy with it?

Oh, and did you read the disclaimer about not changing the date between 10 and 3?

I'm very, very happy with it. It's flawless, and the strap is surprisingly great, too. I've used an emery board to take a couple of sharpish edges off the titanium case (damn, titanium's hard!) and I've been wearing it a lot recently. Can't praise getatwatch enough, he's built me a custom at the same price as off the peg. Definitely worth the extra for the superlume, and suggest going for his "handcut" leather straps as they're particularly thick and luxorious!

I've had it on one wrist and a gen white-face Luminor on the other wrist courtesy of a mate and I have to say - I kind of prefer mine....!

    I'm sure you'll love yours.

Re the date thing - you mean on my SMP? Yes, saw that and all appears well now I've stuck to that. Still not sure if you can actually *damage* anything if you don't do this but having not wanted to risk it, I've just been changing date outside of that window and it's worked fine for me so far, ta.

  5. Guys, got a Planet Ocean from Narikaa 11th Sept. It had a missing pearl so I sent it back, and the guy was great about getting a new replacement out by return post. This arrived and on the 18th the new one's date advance failed. Sent it back, he confirmed receipt on 21st Sept and sent to his watchsmith.

Followed up and got a response on the 5th and then the 15th Oct saying watchsmith pretty busy, then not heard anything else since.

Anyone know if he's on holiday or something?

  6. emery board. all you ant to do is "dull" the edges... finish with a pen eraser...this will take it back to the original finish.. then you'll be ready to oxidize the metal (if your so inclined)

oxidise? as in filing it off will show unoxidised, different colour titanium so I need to do something to get it to match? I'd presumed it'd be like aluminium and cover itself with oxide but maybe not after thinking about it...

  7. I have two more complete watches coming next week! I'll test them and let you folks know.....you should start thinking

of doing some work on your watches......at least a little bit at a time! Getat watches are cheap, so it's affordable to mess up!

That's why I buy their watches......to play around with!

    Goodluck!

they are that. I'll be experimenting with this one I think. Can you fit any 6497 movements to these, e.g if any come up on eBay?

  8. I'd be very interseted in this too. Mine arrives next week and was planning on greasing caseback and crown but would be interested in results if anyone else has already done this.

I'm not confident in my ability to remove the movement to test on an empty case!
