  1. Panatime has 24mm titanium clasp ( sandblasted finish!

But You can also buy a 24 mm titanium one from DSN but then You have two Panerai logos engraved on it (but that is easy to remove using snadpaper!

In 22 mm DSN has both with and without the engraving on the titanium clasp.

And a 100% titaniumclasp is a MUST if You have a titanium watch!!!!!!!!

how do I contact DSN? Can't find anything on panatime, either...

    Cheers

  2. Hi There,

Since I stopped wearing my gen Seamaster for a couple of days and it ran out of power, after I've wound it up again it's keeping good time but the datewheel doesn't seem to advance.

I can manually advance it fine, but it doesn't do it by itself I don't think.

Can anyone give me any pointers on what to check? Assuming I don't set it at just after midnight, how do I make sure the watch changes at night, and not at lunchtime?

    Regards,

    Ric

WOOOHOOOOOOOOO! as I type this, it's just clicked over at midnight! I'll get me coat.

Anyone else getting this spam? Anything we can do about it, mods?

  5. Right, I'm almost settled on a Getatwatch custom: 44mm Luminor Titanium case, black sandwich dial, superwhite lume, black hands with matching lume, black strap...possibly a Destro.

Getatwatch don't seem to do titanium clasps except in 22m which reading his email sounds like it only fits certain straps. He also has deployment clasps on black straps, but not for his handmade straps (not sure what I'd get with this).

Anyone know either the standard size strap for a 44mm PAM (straight 24mm?) or a source for titanium buckles or deployment clasps to fit the standard size strap?

    Thanks

  6. I thought about trying this the other day. I got some graphite and paint on my wood desk while watchmaking and used a magic eraser to get it off and thought to myself....hmm, i bet you could polish SS with this. Thanks for posting. I'm interested to try this out now.

Seems pretty safe, I was very gentle at first and then ended up just wildly buffing the whole thing with it, looked great afterwards...!

  7. you talking about the Mr. Clean "Magic Eraser" product?

Yes, that's the one. There are others - basically they look like white, foam rubber pads that you might do the dishes with. Use them dry or dampened slightly.

    The tech behind it's here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_eraser

They're really weird - they feel utterly non abrasive, and they definitely don't scratch anything I've used them on (plastics, painted walls, watches) but they have an almost magical quality erasing marks. Also great for removing paint splodges off stuff.

Got mine off ebay from the states, but noticed in the UK they're now on sale in supermarkets/Lakeland etc.

  8. Not seen this posted here so thought it worth a post: I've just finished cleaning up a plastic Apple Macbook using a "magic eraser" foam pad, and it worked beautifully.

Idly tried it on a steel polished watch I have here and it worked like a charm in polishing it up. Safe, not conventionally abrasive (they're made from melamine foam which is soft sponge that's very hard at a microscopic level).

Run it over the watch a few times: instant shiny!

Worth a go: magic erasers don't cost much and a pack will last you forever...

  9. Hi All,

I've a Camel Trophy quartz chrono dating back to around 1989 that i've rediscovered in the loft. Before I go and see if I can revive this with a new battery, etc, can anyone tell me anything about these watches? Are they at all desirable used? Tempted to see if I can put it towards a PAM rep but thought I'd consult you guys first to see if this is worth trying to revive...It's boxed (in the yellow metal Camel "jerry can") with all instructions/warranty etc...

  10. This might be a silly question, but looking at the POrikaa I have (well, had: it's unfortunately had a stuck date wheel which he's sorting out for me) the steel bracelet pins for the removeable links don't have the arrows on (as per my gen seamaster) to indicate direction of removal. Should I assume they remove in the same direction as the gen?

  11. A friend wants to get himself a decent rep Omega Seamaster - either a blue or black face one. He's in the UK - can anyone recommend a good model, that has a reasonable chance of some decent level of waterproofing out of the box? He's willing to spend a reasonable amount on this, and wants one with a decent automatic movement. Any particular ones to avoid?

I've read By-tor's excellent guide but could do with a pointer to which dealers have which version - preferably EU or UK based.

(Narikaa/PT Swiss - do they stock good ones?)

    Cheers

  12. I just waterproofed my POrikka this weekend. Went diving in the pool with it yesterday.

Stem... The asian mvmts don't have a stop gap. Its simply a little button. That being said, its harder to screw it up. Pull the stem all the way out to the time set position. With your thumb and index finger, pull on the stem while pressing the button. Try to press the button only as much as needed to release the stem. When you go to put it back in, with the watch upside down, gently rotate the stem counter clockwise (roll it away from you with watch upside down) until you feel it click back into place. Don't force it. Once its back in, spin it both directions, you should feel it winding the movement. Check that it now can be put into date and time set and that they work. You should be fine, you have to learn how to do this stuff, and theres only one way. Once you do it you'll feel more confident that you can do it anytime you need to.

Waterproofing: Check that all your seals are in place. Make sure theres an o-ring in the crown, and inside the tube, and in the caseback. Clean the threads on the outside of the tube and apply a dab of lube to the threads. qtips and toothpics work well. apply a dab of lube around the o-ring inside the crown. I use waterproof bearing grease, like you can buy in a bicycle shop. dab the o-ring inside the tube, but try not to get it past the seal, just a smidge around it. Clean the caseback and back of the case, and lube the caseback threads and the o-ring. put everything back together and screw the caseback down nice and tight.

For Planet oceans the He valve is a pain because it doesnt come out. You have to pull the movement out. After you get the movement out I hot glued the hole shut, performed the waterproofing of the other entry points, then reassembled.

This should suffice. I then wash the watch with soap and water and put it in a cup of water. Then I wear it. No fog? It worked.

This is just what I needed, very much appreciated.

This might be a dumb question, but s the HE valve a necessity if I don't open it? Did you use marine epoxy to seal? Could I just apply a glue to the open threads and tightness down?

Bit nervy about taking the movement out...

If I stuff the crown, are new movements available that work with the date wheel? It'll be my first bit of watch surgery...

Good luck. With minimal tools and the very basic of watchsmithing know-how, you can do this job. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  13. Got a Narikaa PO arriving, and I'm planning to get it pressure tested to see if I can wear it swimming.

If it doesn't pass then I'll need to get waterproofing - presume caseback off, grease seals, and crown/stem out and grease inside stem, inside crown seal and outside crown seal? Any risk in applying a bit too much grease to the stem - don't want to gunk it up.

Anyone any tips for a noob for taking out the crown on these models - what do I press to remove it without me messing up the movement?

    Thanks!

  14. this might be a silly question, but...

I've a leather strap for my rep PO - which has a rep Omega leather strap including the Omega deployment buckle.

Can the buckle be transferred to another strap - I guess it depends if the spacing between holes punched in the leather is at all standard.

I'd like to combine it with a much chunkier leather strap if possible. Anyone advise?
