  1. Does anybody know what Noob constructed the CrPO bezel insert from? It's obviously not ceramic, as I noticed a tiny scuff in the coating today, next to the 30 minute marker. Painted aluminum?
  2. Me personally? I'd go for a 3570.50 Speedmaster and a Breitling Aerospace. I would never sink $6k into one watch.
  3. I saw one of these in the sales forum - not sure if it was here or at RG. It was a brand new watch from a longtime member. Edit: I was wrong, it's a 42mm. It is for sale at RG.
  4. Congrats on being cancer free! My wife is currently in the hospital fighting leukemia and my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last week. It's just me and the kids at home lately...think I'll give them extra hugs in the morning.
  5. Heh. Well, I picked up another 2254.50, so I'd like to reinstate my question. Rep PO bezel fit gen 2254 case? I guess I can try this with my CrPO but I suspect it won't work due to the newer 8500 case being gigantic. That, and my 42mm Noob is a gorgeous watch and I don't want to cannibalize it.
  6. He is Spain. Doing what Spaniards do.
  7. I suggest thoroughly reading and researching before buying a mechanical watch - especially a replica. Automatic watches don't use batteries but are powered by springs and gears. The use of the chrono function of Asian 7750's is generally not recommended due to the high complexity and relatively poor reliability of these movements. Read, read, and read some more, then purchase your watch. If you jump into this uninformed you are likely to be disappointed.
  8. What does WU have to do with anything? Filing a PP dispute for a delivered watch is a good way to get yourself blacklisted from dealers and the forums.
  9. How about a quality picture which shows actual details? My initial guess is that everything > $200 is a rep.
  10. Nice. I managed to pick up a Platt technician's bag at a yard sale a block from my house. My wife loves to go look around at these sometimes and dragged me to this particular sale. This thing was brand new with the tags still on it and I got it for $5!! http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000J19KB0?cache=4435996a73c356a6b980d7af0f51cd3cπ=SY200_QL40&qid=1414290534&sr=8-1#ref=mp_s_a_1_1 The bag in the link is not the exact model but is very close. I'll put up some pics whenever I return home.
  11. Haha, years ago, when I heard people say that a poor running movement needs a good oiling, I thought that it was oiled like a creaky door hinge. Then, I watched some youtube vids of servicing and repair and saw the little oilers that watchmakers use. Almost have to wonder if someone far removed from watchmaking had lubed that movement. Actually, there's little wonder - whoever did that had zero knowledge.
  12. Heh. That's what led me to RWG a while back. RG is dead and the frequent outages drove me to seek information elsewhere. I've been out of the rep world for a few years and it seems that it is slowing down while the quality of reps is greatly increasing. Wonder why that is (or seems to be) the case. Are most of the old school members moving to gens (I did) or have they formed an elite secret society of Chinese watch masters?
  13. Received these two on back to back days, so I swap several times per day:
  14. I had that happen with an Alpha Daytona, which uses the same movement. It was an easy fix for a forum member over at WUS. Think he charged me $20 or $30 but I don't remember the details as this was 4-5 years ago.
  15. Thank you KB! I remember the birth of Wrist Check and never really liked it much and stuck with RG. RG seems to be dying a slow death and I'm beginning to get back into reps again. Realized I registered here a long time ago and figured I'd check it out again.
  16. Wow! I have a lot of respect for those with the skill to take a piece of steel and make it into whatever they desire..especially when they can do it at home.
  17. Looks pretty good to me.
  18. So, I'm an RWG noob (spent most of my time at RG, but it's almost dead)...why are there two RWG sites?
  19. No. Nobody ever asks me about my watches. The only other enthusiast I know is a coworker but he's new to watches and asks about each different watch I wear out of curiosity. I don't really wear reps outside of the house all that often.
  20. Print looks fuzzy and the 12 o'clock triangle looks off-center, but that could be a function of the low quality image. How in the world did you make this?! Was this machined or did you start with a pre-made dial? Do you have a printing pad?
  21. My decisions are based on the quality of reps available for a particular gen. There are some watches which have Never been accurately replicated, such as the Speedy Pro, Breitling Aerospace, etc - those are the watches which I pick up in gen form. Regarding most everything else, rep is the way to go for the reasons you've already laid out.
