Amazing how a lot of rep owners know more than gen owners
dieselpower replied to lionsandtigers's topic in The Rolex Area
pearls before swine. I know a young guy who works in a city bank who bought a Porsche 911, I asked him if it was air cooled or water cooled and he looked at me blankly and said "I've no idea" -
Lovely, what's the ingredients list?

If gun ownership is such a good thing, why not make it compulsary? Let's make it illegal for all persons aged say, 17 and above, to step foot outside their door without carrying a firearm. Good idea?

Cheers panerai153, I have in the past used ofrei pearls but they work out mucho expensive for me in the uk ($65 a pop) so I am trying to work out a more reasonable alternative. I've now ordered a CWP insert which I am told come with decent pearls fitted - lets see. Of course the moral of the whole story is I should have bought a gen insert with nice faded pearl in the first place - it would have probably worked out cheaper, a lot less fun though!

I forgot that I had already ordered a clark's insert and it duly arrived in the post this morning. Oops. So, I decided to do a little surgery as I am also going to get a classicwatchparts insert. So I took the pearl from a WSO insert (this pearl is I think the same diameter as a Yuki pearl), I popped out the metal rimmed pearl from the clarks 5513 and replaced it with the WSO pearl just to see how it sits in the hole. Sorry I didn't take a photo of the hole before I glued the WSO pearl in but here's the result:

OK. Thanks for your views. I have recently bought an ingod44 feet first 5513 dial which I was going to have aged and re-lumed but now I'm not so sure. It has a slightly creamy look as it is and I fear re-luming a darker shade will take it a step too far.

I have just spent a very enjoyable morning bathed in the London sunshine parousing my favourite watch haunts, David Duggan Vintage Rolex, Bond Street etc after laughing at the prices they are attempting to charge for pieces (1970's 5513 circa £10K) I had a thought. Are we over ageing our reps? I was surprised to see what good condition these vintage gens were in, some 1960's and 70's pieces were carrying slight patina but nothing like the ageing that alot of modders are going for in the rep world (myself included) and it has made me re-think how I am going to go forward with my own reps and how battered I actually want them to look. Any thoughts?

When you get it back from RA you won't regret your decision. It may take a little time but it will keep on getting better, like a fine wine. Enjoy. Don't know about that bracelet number but start researching gen bracelets you might find a decent one at a reasonable price then you can gradually add to the watch and make a stunner. Great starting point though. Wear it well. Oh and welcome to the vintage world - it's where it's at!

@ Nook I have, on occasion, received a few praising words in my short time on this planet. But your last post (no pun intended) is a true honour. I shall continue with my lifestyle choices - damn the consequences and hopefully do justice to your generous words.......... Now find me a fuc***g insert!!!!!!!!!

Cheers for advice Nook! Went to the site, registered as customer, ordered insert and guess what? Well, to be honest I'm not quite sure but it says low stock and my order is 'pending' don't quite know what's happening. It seems everything I want to order is out of stock or maybe the rep world just doesn't like me. OK so I swear a bit, drink more than is good for me and occasionally upset people with my outspokenness but is that really justification for thwarting my attempts at building a decent 5513?!?

Cheers for the heads up alligoat, I was worried about that myself. And denimhead, thankyou for the advice. So here is the latest contender USD 50 plus p&p though. Any advance on this?

It was generally accepted that the PMWF insert was the best bang for buck vintage 5513/1680/1665 insert, especially when coupled with an Ofrei illumines dot. Now that the PMWF inserts seem to be a thing of the past I am trying to source a decent insert for my vintage 5513 project. I have a 'blank' yuki pearl waiting to be painted and fitted to whichever insert I find and I reckon its between these two: First up is the Clarks at a cost of USD 22.80 incl shipping to UK Second is jandkwatches, which costs USD 31.50 incl shipping So, chaps - what do you think?

Cheers TeeJay. When I was collecting parts for mine I had a gen bevelled rolex glass and the domed sternkreutz to choose from, I opted for the gen but looking at these photos I wish I'd had the sternkreutz installed. Doh!

Fantastic work. Love the piece and love the fact that it is a replica. What we're supposed to be all about. I have to admit if the watch were mine (second dibs if it's for sale ) I'd put a gen crown on straight away or at least try and source a better rep one (yep I'm aware of my own hypocrisy!). I do have a question if you don't mind me asking. Where did you source the dial? I desperately need a good quality 6263 silver dial that fits a 7750 movement, so far no joy.

I'm afraid Ofrei pearls work out very expensive for us in the UK - look at the postage charges. I just got an unpainted pearl from Yuki for my 5513 project. I think this is your best bet moneywise.
