  1. His judgement in watches is about the same as his guitar playing.
  2. Only ever smoked one cigar in my life (ex-cigarette smoker). It was a Cohiba Esplendido given to me by a cigar fan friend. Pearls before swine I'm afraid but I did enjoy the experience.
  3. DW can engrave the case for $100. Will probably take him up on that.
  4. Thanks for the advice chaps. Will contact DW and see what we can agree on. Am in no rush as I have to get the EE sorted for my mate first, without that done I have no dial and no movement!
  5. Has anybody got a bottle of air sampled from a shop selling a Paul Newman?
  6. @ Sql_pl, Yes. I gave you the history of my ownership of the EE6263 in your thread about your Spinmaster Daytona. Following on from that I have sourced the following: DW Case, Gen T21, Gen (Tall coronet) NOS Crown and tube, a pair of good quality pushers and a gen folded link bracelet. It is my plan to use the spare EE dial and movement (which has been faultless all this time), put all these parts together and hey presto! Another Asian powered 6263 is born I am a little unhappy about the lack of engraving on the DW case. My fault for not doing my research properly You got any idea about the member that freddy333 is referring to who might be able to engrave it for me?
  7. Have had a reply from Phong. Those of us who are of a delicate disposition had better sit down......... He is asking $350 to engrave the case I think I'll pass. Anyone else capable of doing this?
  8. I am no expert but can't help noticing that the 'tail' of the letter "R" is completely different on the suspect watch than it is on Nanuq's excellent photos of his gen. Is it possible that this is a gen dial? I say no - I too am very suspicious of this piece and in my limited experience if you are unsure of anything then walk away!
  9. Hi all, I was just going through my parts box and came across an envelope which I have marked "genuine 257 endlinks" inside are indeed two endlinks. I must have got them years ago as I have no memory of where they came from. Can anybody shed any light on which bracelet and which watch/watches they would originally have been fitted to? Thanks in advance.
  10. Thanks for that Freddy333. Have sent Phong an email - lets see how much it's gonna cost! What would you think is reasonable?
  11. I have recently bought a DW 6263 case for a planned daytona build (Asian 7750 powered) and I notice that there are no serial or model numbers engraved between the lugs. Is it possible to have the model number (6263) and an 'imaginary' serial number engraved now and if so does anybody know who might be able to perform such miracles? Cheers.
  12. Lovely stuff! @Sql_pl You may be interested to know the story with your EE6263. I had a gen crown and tube installed, also fitted a gen T21, changed the dial to silver and sourced a gen folded link bracelet from the 'bay. I wore the watch proudly for a few years until I weakened and a mate of mine, who had been drooling over it for ages, made me an offer I couldn't refuse and I sold it. He has now bought a V72 movement and a new silver V72 dial and the watch is going to be sent to Domenico to have the movement serviced and dropped into the EE case. Should be a real head turner when the work is done. So, even though it is very different from the watch you sold me, it still lives on and hopefully will give years of faithful service! All the best
  13. Great watch. Well done. Wish I had the skills. One day maybe..
  14. Merry Christmas to all! Back on subject, would any experts care to share with us what the specific differences Rolex made to the standard 72 movement to create the "727" Thanks.
  15. Thanks chaps. If it's not a straightforward fit I probably won't bother. @ dizzy - would not a rep blank bridge suffer from the same issues that are mentioned by others in this thread?
  16. I am putting together a V72 6263 project for a friend and would like to know where I might get a rep bridge that is engraved with Rolex Geneva as opposed to the donor watches engraving (Wittnauer, Enicar etc etc). Have seen gens on the bay for silly money but am not interested, a nice cheap and cheerful rep bridge - as long as it works fine on the movement is what I want so, esteemed colleagues what are your recommendations? Thanks.
  17. Your simple sea dweller is simply gorgeous. Enjoy.
  18. Gotta agree with krpster. Balance out the links on either side, locate the bracelet in the right hole in the the clasp and bingo, you should have no problem. Good luck
  19. Lovely work. Well worth the effort. Congratulations.
  20. I've got a 1016 from andrew and yes the wis' can tell it's a rep but it's damn good to the eye and a fine timepiece.
  21. Magnificent work. A thing of beauty.
  22. Looking at Ubi's amazing latest V72 Daytona build got me wondering. He sources the best parts and gets hold of some stuff that us mere mortals can only dream of and I have no doubt it is years of involvement in watches and the contacts made therein that sometimes bring their rewards ie rare parts. So, here is a kind of open question: Which valued parts do you know, or guess, that Rolex keep in 'stock'. For example, can one (with the right contacts) get hold of a gen vintage Daytona dial or bezel from Rolex? - I mean they must have some sort of stock of old stuff. Are they even prepared to sell these bits to the right watchmaker? If not why not? Whats the good of keeping things in a drawer? All opinions/facts gratefully received.
  23. For the record 'star time' only open accounts for watchmakers in the trade. Their minimum inernational order is $200. Thanks to automatico anyway.
