  1. I hope this is the right sub-forum for this question.

About three years ago, someone on this forum gave me the contact info of a jeweler from the east coast. The jeweler sold Omega for well below retail and was an authorized dealer. I am back in the market and would love to give him my business. If you know of this dealer, can you please PM me?

    Thanks!

  2. Hello!

  3. The Cal. 8500 version is available in 38.5 and 41.5mm. You should really check it out, it's a huge improvement over the Cal. 2500 version.

I had the blue dial version of the one sold on ebay once. It came without box and papers and I paid around 900€ (~$1300) for it. I wasn't overly impressed with it since the AR was really horrible and sold it pretty soon. Since I don't care for box and papers I would not pay more than $1500 for the one you posted. Resale value of these is poor, the black one is usually more desirable than the other versions on the second hand market though.

Thanks for the heads up. Are you talking about this watch? http://www.omegawatches.com/gents/seamaster/aqua-terra-chronometer/23110422106001

If so, it looks like it's running about $3200... Not sure where you saw it for $2300 but please point me in that direction!

  4. Looks fine IMO. I wouldn't pay 2k for one of these though, even with box and papers.

You should be able to get the newer Cal. 8500 version which will have a far better resale value and superior movement for around 2300-2500 incl. box and papers.

Would you pay $1700 for it?

Also, does the 8500 come in 42mm?

  5. Silix is well known - he went through a dodgy patch but appears to be getting better, from what I have read, anyway :) (I've not ordered from him, personally.)

Thanks Member X - Looks like that link is for the gray dial...I am looking for the black. Maybe it's not meant to be, eh?

  6. The seagull 2892 copy is a good movement, i was more than happy with mine for years and then i sold it and have not heard of any problems

I just heard back from Josh and he says they do not make this model anymore.

Does anyone know of another dealer that may carry it? I looked through about ten dealer websites and so far it's just Josh and King that list them on their websites...

  7. After reading By-Tor's review of the Aqua Terra, I am a little gun shy on making a purchase. His review mentions that some reps claim to have the ETA 2892 inside but really do not (see below).

Has anyone purchased this watch from Josh? If so, does he sell the cheap Chinese version or the true ETA? Also, his description says the diam. is 40mm. Is this not the 42mm version rep?

    Thanks!

"This is visually another excellent Omega rep. But beware: Some dealers can claim that their watches have ETA 2892 inside, but it turned out those were all low-quality Chinese movements. Seagulls, to be exact. While the chronograph ST-19 model has excellent reputation, the movements that are found in the AT and "Closed factory" Bond Seamaster have really poor track records.

There is a lot of variation among the trusted dealers on the inscribed words on the clear case back (by the way, the automatic case back should be crystal, not solid). I think I have seen ones in recent pix that have the words "Constel" and "lation" on the back. This obviously is a flaw you want to avoid. Look at the Omega website for detailed pictures of the caseback.

Possible issues: Datewheel color should be black on black versions (which isn't always the case with reps). Older versions had problems with the word "Co-Axial" spelled wrong on the face but these should be all corrected now."

  8. I have owned the Link replica and I've handled the new model gen. The rep is great but automatic more expensive TAGs are extremely well finished. The rep can never reach those details, however the rep Link bracelet is one of the best replica bracelets ever made.

Whenever you go to the watch forums you hear that "TAGs are not well finished", etc. That's a load of crap posted by people who don't know what they're talking about, at least when it comes to automatic Link, Aquaracer, Monaco and Carrera.

If you have the cash, go for the gen. It's a great, great looker and the lack of AR on the rep always bothered me (although it was accurate for the older model).

    My 2c.

Thanks for the info By-Tor but you have to forgive me - what is 'AR'?

Have you ever owned a rep Link that wasn't serviced? If so, how long?

I really want a gen (bad), just not sure I want to finance the $2100.

Thanks again for the fast reply!
