  1. My sosf asian I had for 2 years and it was still in perfect condition the day i sold it 2 months ago. But then again, I didn't wear the watch aas often as you wore your sub, but I still clean and wipe my watches at least once or twice a week. With good care the watch can last forever. Have you ever had your watch serviced? What movement do you have? If the crystal fell out that sounds kinda strange. Did you simply pop the crystal back in yourself using hands? A crystal press would be needed to seat it perfectly and securely to the case again.

Well to be fair no I never had it serviced which is my fault but partly because the few watch shops I did asked refused to work on reps. As for the movement its Swiss Eta 2836-2 and ya the crystal just fell out one day and I got it to sit back in but probably not as secure as it should, also when setting the time the pin came straight out of the body which now takes some fiddling to get it back in to adjust the date and time. All this and not to mention the little triangle point at the 12' Oclock marker fell of as well!!! Anyhow it was the higher end sub from Josh and worked well all until the final days when it was everything just at once. I was just curious if anyone else thinks 2 years or so for a rep worn everyday is a common thing.

  2. Looking for a new sub, I have one from Josh a couple years old and its fine but I want something better. So can anyone tell me what is the best sub rep you can buy at the moment and from which vendor has the better version. Also do any of the Sub Reps LUME bright without having to mod them?

    Thanks! B)

  3. I have been searching forever on ebay and on some of the reputable sellers on RWG but the 12 o'clock triangle on my dial fell off....soooo I used one of the guides and went and tried to fix it. All went well but when I used some crazy glue on the little triangle piece some oozed out the edge of it and hardened in like 3 seconds so I tried to graciously scrape the excess off and as you prob guessed it scratched the dial. I tried to "black" the scratch line back in with a sharpie marker but its noticeable and it really is bugging me. Sooo....what are my options? What would work I wonder to fix the scratch?? Can I get a dial somewhere that isn't 400 bucks?

    Thanks a million fellas!

  4. How do you know when an eta-2836-2 is fully wound though? I read The Zigmeisters info on the maintenance of the autos and know you cannot "overwind" the watch do to the clutch mech but I still am not sure how to tell when I should stop winding it? What does is sound like when its fully wound?

  5. Most automatics can be wound manually. I've read cautions from The Zigmeister that you should take care in winding this model, wind it slowly because of potential damage to the click mechanism (that's my recollection, you might want to search, there are several posts). Other respected sources say go ahead and wind it - that's what they're made for. I've had my ETA sub for over a year, and wind it all the time. It keeps great time and I've never had a problem with it.

Some autos cannot be wound, like the movement in the Seiko Orange Monster. I would love that model, but the winding issue and the fact that it does not stop the second hand when you pull out the crown (hacking), has kept me from it.

My own sub rep has a power reserve of about 36 to 40 hours on a full wind, if you need something to compare to.

One other thing. You can't overwind an automatic watch. There is a clutch that disengages the winding mechanism from the main spring when it is fully wound. (Sorry for the clumsy technical terms, but you get the point.) The crown won't stop when it's done, but you may hear a tiny click if you listen hard. You can keep winding all day and not know when it's wound up, so a general rule of thumb is about 30 to 50 turns should get it there.

Thanks man very helpful, and I am finding some other posts now actually with this info. :)

  6. OK maybe I missed something then? The automatic can be wound? I thought just wearing it was the only way it could be wound. So just undo the crown and wind towards the 12 like any watch and it will stop on its own when it is fully wound? Sorry I should perhaps have known this but may have been confused. :bangin:

  7. hmm well I was wearing it off and on for a couple days prior so maybe it just was not wound well from the infrequent use, is that possible? It is Joshs Classic I have by the way as well. I am going to leave it and let it sit to see when it stops, but in the meantime if anyone can offer some additional info that would be great too.

  8. Hey guys took my Sub off the other night on vacation and did not wear it for about 18 hours roughly and it stopped?I had it a few weeks and never tested this, is this normal? How long should it go before it stopped? It is the Swiss Eta 2836-2 movement as well by the way.

It also makes a noise inside when I shook it to get it going, not loud but should you be able to hear anything? Hope these are not somewhere else on the fourm answered but I have not brought anything up in the searh related.

Thanks to anyone to can enlighten me on these questions! :)

  9. How does the rep seconds hand on the classic sub look versus the gen? I have not seen a gen in person but it would be cool if anyone by the rarest chance had or knows where you can see a clip of this. Or perhaps just enlighten me on it. On the gen is it a "true" sweep without even the slightest close up view of a stutter?

  10. Wow although I have a Sub rep I must say that is the best "visual" with excellent descriptors of what your looking for in comparison I have seen. I also can say I am amazed at my Sub and how close it really is after all, not many things other than the extra beveled bottom edge on the gen and a couple other extremley minor things. Overall pretty dam amazing how they do it with these reps. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  11. Pug, I just bought two swiss ETAs in the last month from a very "trusty" guy. Are you saying I should have them serviced right away because the they're dry? Should I get them serviced?

Ya I am wondering the same thing, I have read so many mixed thoughts on this. What would it cost to just get her lubed up? :D
