  1. Why? There is not one single reason why you'd even consider them over the dealers listed here. Expensive, gen pics, useless.
  2. This won't be going anywhere for a while...
  3. Relumed, markers flattened and straightened and AR redone. Seals lubed and supposedly regulated. I agree it's expensive. I think I may have been unfair about the Lume. It stays readable for a good few hours in the pitch dark.
  4. After much admiration of the 3717 I decided to get one from a TD. It's an amazing watch and rep but I liked it so much there were one or two niggles on the rep that bugged me. The AR was very blue, and while it is very good AR it didn't sit right with me. The 12 marker was every so slightly mis-aligned. Again not a big deal but it caught my eye when I looked at the watch. I heard a lot about Vac modded watches and decided to go ahead and order. Vac is good to deal with, and I would recommend him. However there was a slight point that didn't sit 100% with me. It's minor but for the sake of completeness I'll mention it. When I enquired about the watch I asked about getting a blue hue to the AR as Vacs AR is pretty clear. He said I could have the rep crystal reinstalled instead of his if I liked but he wanted an extra $50 to do that. Fair enough, his call, but I thought it was strange to ask for more money for something which required less work. I initially went with this option and paid for it but decided to go back to his AR as it had a good reputation. He was not interested in any refund so I ended up paying $615 including shipping and paypal fees. So you can appreciate this is not a cheap watch. Onto the watch. Apologies for the pics I was using an iPhone to snap them. The initial impression was fantastic. The watch looks amazing, the AR is great and the kevlar strap is actually one of the best rep straps I've come across. The watch is "vac-lumed". It's generally applied very well and the overly thick hour markers are trimmed nicely. There is however some slight unevenness of application which is only visable in strong natural light and under close inspection. Basically not an issue. The lume is great after initial charge up... Here are two shots after about 20 seconds charging using the iphone flashlight... No tricks just a standard no flash iphone shot... Now onto the other aspect of the lume... it doesn't last very long. After about 10 minutes it has faded to levels that are just legible in the pitch dark. I've yet to see how long the watch remains legible in the dark, I will update as I wear the watch more. I must say I am a bit disappointed by this. I was expecting superlume performance but I don't think it is. Another aspect which disappointed me was the fact that the watch was running about 40-60s slow per day when I received it. Now this could definitely be caused by shipping and I have regulated it and it is running almost to COSC specs now. No big deal. Overall it's a beautiful watch and I am delighted with it. However, it's about twice the price of a non-modded version from a dealer. Is it worth it? Maybe. On the plus side you get a very well QC'd watch with straight markers, better lume and better AR. On the negative side the lume is not as impressive as I thought it would be and you do loose the slight blue hue of the gen on the AR. The timing issue is unfortunate and I would be pretty confident it was knocked around in shipping as opposed to not regulated. The day is also very slightly mis-aligned but this is a feature on most 7750s, I've even seen gens like this and it's really marginal. Finally a wrist shot. And another. The bottom line: For me I am very fussy about my watches. The price is just about worth it. Vac was fine to deal with and I would buy from him again. I'll try whip out the DSLR at the weekend and update with better photos. Thanks for looking.
  5. If you want a decent Omega rep you could do a lot worse than a 5th gen Planet Ocean 42mm while you are waiting. They are incredibly cheap with the Asian movement and are very close to gen.
  6. I have a Planet Ocean with a "Swiss ETA". Looking at the movement it certainly isn't a span new out of the box movement. But anyway, I am having a strange issue... On hand winding the watch operates perfectly and has a power reserve of around 40 hours. No problem. However, the problem occurs on normal wearing of the watch. If I wear it for a normal day it self winds but only generates a power reserve of about 7-8 hours. If I shake it a bit move it around more I can hear the movement winding (a small clicking sound) and the power reserve improves. I gave it a shake last night for around 20 seconds and it was still going 14 hours later when I put it on going to work. This is only a minor inconvenience but I don't know why it's happening. On other ETAs I had a normal days wear would give pretty much a full 40 hours power reserve. It seems like the rotor just doesn't spin enough in normal wear. I have opened the back and the rotor seems to move freely but if I move the watch around with the case back off it does take a bit of an effort to get it moved from one side to another. Is it just a case I need to move my arm more to get the movement winding, or is there something up inside the movement that it isn't being efficient enough? I plan to send the watch for a service and relume but is this an issue that can likely be fixed? My guess is that it's a bit old and dry and a service and oiling would free it up a lot? Thanks for the help.
  7. Honestly, no. Bad pearl, colour is off, not worth the money.
  8. Have one on the way. Got QC pics a few days ago.
  9. It's ok, It has te wrong caseback and the pearl is average. The dial doesn't look as sharp as the top of the line reps we get these days. It's good for $98 but you need to buy another full price watch with it to qualify. I should have mine in about a week, I picked one up along with a 3717. I'll probably be putting it for sale on here.
  10. I recently got a rep Omega PO with Asian clone 2836 movement. It runs well and keeps good time however there is a small issue. As you know there are 3 stem positions, wind-date-time set. When unscrewing the crown and pulling out the stem the 3 positions are OK and correct. However when pushing the stem back in after setting the time it sometimes stays in the time set position and takes some in and out motions and general messing to get it back to the position where I can screw back the crown. Is this a problem you have encountered on a 2824/2836 before? Is there a solution or maybe I need to send the watch to a watchsmith? I'm not going to send it back to China it's too much hassle. Thanks
  11. Just used it today. The main disadvantage is that you have no option to file a dispute like you do in Paypal, but you should never open a PP dispute with TDs anyway so I'd imagine it's perfectly fine. A lot of the dealers here are around quite a while and are are trustworthy as you can get in this business.
  12. There is absolutely zero chance that airport security would take a watch from your wrist and suspect it was a fake. Unless you are carrying a few in your bag and they thought you should be paying duty on them they won't care. In most countries there is nothing illegal about wearing a rep and there is certainly no way an airport customs officer would call out a decent rep by looking at it passing though an xray machine. Nothing to worry about!
  13. Anyone recognise the style of the QC pics? Wouls really like to know who sold that.
  14. Looking for a Mark XVI. Trusty and Puretime seem to be selling the same one (the A2892) but surprisingly trusty is $70 cheaper. Are they the same watch and is this the best Mark XVI at the moment? I wonder is the 3317 a better overall rep? Thanks
  15. I do love the MKXV and it seems pretty accurate. Hmm. So many decisions. Thanks guys.
  16. Hey guys, Have been out of the game for a good few years now but I'm getting the bug again. I currently have a noobmariner, a Navitimer with serviced A7750 and a BCE (1st gen I think) again with A7750. I had a 4th gen 42mm PO but I lost it... Did like that watch. I'm going to make a purchase soon and need some advice. My main criteria is that I want it to be very close to gen. I don't want to be called out. I'm not going to be going to ADs showing it off but I will be around people with gens and I want it to be hard to call. The 42mm PO Ultimate seems to be a real front runner. It seems to be the same watch with the Asian movemnt and the Asian/Swiss ETA which makes it incredible value in my eyes. Trevor has it for $135 or $188 with Asian ETA. It also looks like a watch that should be very hard for anyone but a real enthusiast would have any idea is a rep. I also love IWCs. The mark MKVI is a beauty, but I'm unsure of how close to gen it is. Any suggestions of other IWCs or indeed any other watches I am overlooking? I don't want any PAMs or A7750s this time. Thanks!
  17. Ya getting the stem from the crown is a bi**h.
