If we start talking about the US economy, the dollar being a third world currency (oh my God), and Carter administration inferences (someone shoot me if we're suffering stagflation), this thread is going to the crapper faster than a Dacia to a mechanic.

I wasn't referring to stagflation, I was merely referring to the 2 for 1 deal with the GBP. In fact, the last time the US economy's growth was this high (3.9% for this quarter) was 6 quarters ago.

Ack! I will have to keep close eyes on that! I don't like how quickly my self-imposed "play money" monthly allocation is being diminshed!

Dollar is now a third world currency. And I would guess the dollar gets worse not better. If you look at the commodity boom or even watch prices and the rise in underlying prices and subtract out the currency moves the price increases don't look nearly as impressive (read as bad). In the U.S. all the European car manufacturers are either jacking up prices to reflect the decline in currency or increasing manufacturing facilities in the U.S. China is not so stupid to fix the yuan (okay it floats a little - )

Yep. It's like the Carter era all over again. And they're still talking about dropping interest rates. Why can't they just kick em, bringing the exchange rate down? Then I can watch all the stocks fall and snap 'em all up . Wait...I've been doing that already VMW in the house!

No, I am not one of those. However, with certain pieces, no matter how hard I try to hide them (short of taking them off), I still am asked about them quite frequently. Actually, I find that I'm way less likely to cover up a more subdued watch than a more "blingy" one, particularly around women. Not too sure why, since I'm sure it's the other way around for many other guys. Who knows?

yes i saw this ML movement also on Benzingers site and ask him if he could do the same for me... but my movement is a little bit different. The main plate is platinum overworked blue... like his $68.000 watch with Herman Grieb.

I don't know about you guys, but I think that the AquaBlack 2 with the orange numerals is really, really cool! 44mm case diameter, but a real beefy mother@ 17mm. 24mm lugs, 1000m WR, solid, really high quality case and PVD coating, thick Super Luminova coated numerals, hands and markers...and for 1260 MSRP minus $50 for pre-order...I think it's an insane value for what it is, and I'm toying with the idea of picking it up, especially since I have a good amount of credit@watchbuys! What do you all think of it?

So YOU are the one that has that JB movement! Awesome! When I was doing some background research on JB before buying my Subskription, I saw that movement pictured on his site; of all the different creations he had pictured on his site, that one was one of my favorites. Personally, I would ask Benzinger if he could get the same case used for his 48mm quarter repeater he did with Hermann Grieb made in a 43mm size. Or get in touch with van der Klaauw, and see if he can make the cases he uses on his real heavy hitters (planetarium, astrolabium, etc) in 43mm diameter. That ML movement and dial needs 18k YG, and either the JB/HG or CV cases in 43mm diameter are exactly what will set them off most, IMO. Congrats on an absolutely stunning set of innards; good luck with getting the case they deserve, and I look forward to seeing the end result!

That is true, even as recently as 6 months ago you couldn't find most models selling for much less than their MSRP. Way inflated over other brands. Glad to see the market is stabilizing.

Hublot have been approaching EVERY charity....august body...fashion house they can....with the sole objective of aligning themselves with said bodies....Carlo Crocco must be wringing his hands in glee....JCB has with unabashed shame....did everything to put Hublot on the map....and succeeded also....he's done his job......but a 30 year old insignificant lacklustre and vainglorious history will not a great marque create...,,,not based around ONE plagiarised design...( badly done ).....and the use of a mundane but sturdy easily obtainable out house movement.....!

Hublot is a fashion brand and will go out of favour sooner rather than later....JCB recognises that fact ....hence the reason he has recruited Gerald Genta to the design team at MDM Hublot......the foremost designer of most of the world's great watches....!

No Big Bang for me.....I like good design.....Hublot is just like a pair of Victoria Beckham jeans...still denim but with a little glittery pizzazz on the rear pocket.....for the fashionistas....andwe all know that style is constant and fashion changes....!

I agree with everything you said, Neil. I am a fan of Senna, and I understand that the inflated price of the watch is due in part to the charity aspect. However, the overall design just doesn't do it for me. It just isn't something that will prove to be a remotely enduring design. I purchased an SS/RG HBB from a member, and quickly traded it back for a modded MBW 1665 SRSD. Although the HBB is impressive as a rep (though the rather laughable decoration of the back, particularly the movement, the lackluster finish of the clasp and strap, the sometimes misaligned numbers with a habit of falling out, as well as the screws that have a habit of falling out leave something to be desired), I just never warmed up to it. It was eye catching in the same way that a very trendy, fashion forward accessory or article of clothing gets attention. However, it doesn't have presence, something that only truly timeless designs can lay claim to. This newest release just solidifies my convictions.

My heart always sinks when I hear of tragedies like this, when someone's life is snatched from them just as they're beginning to live. Laz, never forget the good times, they will help you cope with something that is truly senseless. My sincerest condolences to you.

Being brought up in an upper middle class Jewish family in Long Island New York I have been around bling my whole life. My Grandfather owned several gold watches, rings bracelets, ETC. My Grandmother and Mom are always blinged to the gills.

I normally wear a ring on each pinkie, diamond huggie earrings (yes one in each ear), a princess cut diamond solitare in my left above the hoop, one of a few necklaces I own in yellow gold each at least a half inch thick and 24 inches long, a braclet and a watch. If that isn't enough I wear gold rimmed wood temple prescription Cartier eyeglasses. This is if I am wearing a gold or two tone watch.

For the laid back days when I wear a stainless watch I have platinum rimless Fred Lunettes, a thick silver byzantine, White gold diamond pinky ring, Rolex or diamond bracelet and white gold diamond hoops.

I also try to match my belt buckle and bits on my Loafers to the gold or silver. Now, I'd like to see anyone here top that...............

Wow...you go to work done up like that? No offense, but I'd have trouble taking someone dressed like that seriously. Also, just because you were brought up in an upper middle class Jewish family in LI (don't know where though, I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming that you were raised in the 5 towns) doesn't mean that a remote majority of 5 towns LI Jews dress or act the same way. My father was raised in a very upper-middle class Jewish household in Great Neck; he still plays golf with some of his friends from Fresh Meadow CC, in fact. You'll be hard pressed to find someone who is more nicely, elegantly and classily dressed than he, and you'll never find him or any of his friends (pretty much all of them are Jewish) blinged out like that. If you and your family choose to outfit yourselves in a "bling" manner, that's fine, it is not my decision. However, I take issue with false stereotypes that are much more of a modern phenomenon among 1st generation Americans than anything.

Did anyone see Transporter 2? Two men surviving (and the plane, lol) a 40,000 foot freefall into the ocean in a G4. Barrel rolling an A8L 30 feet in the air to knock a bomb lodged underneath the car off. And then landing without a scratch, let alone being bent in the middle, tires blown out, etc. Or jumping said car 200 feet between parking garages, with another 30 foot drop. A baddie manages to fall through the flimsy sheetrock wall in a doctor's office. Yet somehow, the 9mm lead sprayed at Jason Statham with two silenced mac-11s in said doctor's office never manages to spray through the other side of said flimsy sheetrock. Yeah, that movie could've been a whole lot better if it wasn't so...ridiculous.Also, am I the only one who finds it ridiculous when people take cover behind 1/2 inch thick wood tables, flimsy sheetrock walls, etc during gunfights, and the bullets somehow magically never penetrate? That always gets to me. Ridiculous. Also, am I the only one annoyed at the fact that whenever someone in a movie is using a computer or something, for every last click, input, process, result displayed, change in CPU load, memory occupation, PMS levels, etc, that it requires a beep?! Watch, cufflinks (always), engraved Tiffany swiss army knife (laugh if you will, I feel naked without one, and at least that one doesn't look doofy when pulled out of my inner jacket pocket), and a pinky ring (1x 1.96cw cushion cut Tanzanite, 3x 0.25ctw D colorless diamonds, 3x 0.25ctw yellow diamonds; formerly in a 24k WG setting, currently being redone in a 24k RG setting I dreamed up). The pinky ring was a bit ostentatious before; it will be a bit more low-key in its new setting, but it has very serious sentimental value to me, which is why I still wore it in spite of feeling a bit uncomfortable about it.

They are your father's watches; I would imagine that the sentimental value of them far exceeds what it would cost you to have the cases re-plated, fresh crystals installed, and new straps put on. Not only does it have a vintage cool factor, you'll always have a great story to tell, and something that can always remind you of your dad.

Well, I was down, ready to turn the TV off and pour another glass of GG pear, then Abreu hit that homer, and my spirits changed. Then, as A-rod hit that blast into right field, I'm starting to think "9th inning rally, baby!". After it went foul, I went back to putting some ice in the glass. When Posada struck out, I poured one for my defeated homies.

The only thing holding me back from getting one is the mineral crystal. I wish they'd make a sapphire version. All of WBK's rollies have sapphire so WTF? Give omega some respect too!

I honestly wouldn't worry about it, if it's mineral. You wouldn't believe how much abuse I've put mine through, and it still has no scratches in the crystal. Perhaps I lucked out and ended up with sapphire? I doubt it though. I'd talk to WBK about it.
