  1. What, your tomatoes will not fit into a salad bowl?
  2. The comment was tongue and cheek & I wish you two all the best. Emeril Lagasse usually wears an always gleaming twotone Datejust, but I could not locate a good picture.
  3. A very angry vegetarian. A meat-eater must have peed in his bowl of Mueslix when he was a kid.
  4. When you come down to it, we are all gold-diggers & Neanderthals
  5. Houston's makes some of the best burgers (including a veggie-based burger) in the world. And my guttural repulsion to Lidia (and Julia) has nothing to do with randyness (my mother would tell you the same thing about Lidia and, no, my mother is not a lesbian (at least not to my knowledge)). And I have similar feelings about tv news readers (remember that thread). And look where Patrick Henry is today - dead. Pass the salad.
  6. She may be a good cook, but, as with Julia Childs before her, I cannot watch a cookery show hosted by a woman that makes my stomach turn, no matter what may be dangling from her grubby wrist. Now Nigella She could brew up a vat of borscht with 2 dead beagles thrown in for lumps & my eyes would remain glued to the set (I hate beets & I am a vegetarian)
  7. More importantly, ammonia (in many glass cleaners) will also remove AR.
  8. And the cake if probably full of egg shells. Nice post, TwoTone.
  9. I think I have discovered a new class of watch - The Daytona Beater (Sorry, no wrist shot yet) I have had this watch strapped to my wrist for the better part of the past 3 days and it has accompanied me to dinner and 2 business meetings with equal aplomb. Surely not hardy enough to be drafted into use as a daily wearer (my Double Red is that), but it is understated & reliable enough to be worn for those daily activities where no manual labor is involved. Yes, it has its issues, but, like the steel Datejust, it just works with everything - an attention-getter that does not attract too much attention.
  10. 6mm Twinlock gold - I have never bought these, but I would guess they go for $50 - $150 depending on condition and seller 6mm Twinlock SS - I have paid anywhere between $20 - $100 ($100 for NOS in sealed Rolex package), depending on condition and seller 7mm Triplock crown - 2 used Triplock crowns from a reasonable seller for less than $40 Triplock tube - $6 for New Style 6mm tubes from Ofrei (for Triplock crown) or about $20 for slightly higher quality New Style tube (24.7030.0) from Cousinsuk (Cousins tube is slightly longer (closer match to the gen tube), but I have used both with similar (trouble-free) results).
  11. Unless you know something I do not, none of the collectors here offer a vintage Daytona with asymmetrical pushers. Similar to DWs and other reps, the watch arrived here without any gen parts. I replaced the crown & tube with gen Triplocks (current 703 version, which is what Rolex service would fit to a vintage Oyster Daytona gen these days) and the caseback with an extra DW caseback (part of the reason I removed the 7750's rotor was to be able to fit the shallower DW caseback, which leaves the 7750's case at the same height & with the same profile as a V72 DW). Because I am so happy with this watch, I will be swapping the rep crystal and bracelet for a beveled gen T21 & 7835/357, respectively. And in case you may not have read it above, this watch would NOT be delivered with any gen parts. These would need to be purchased & installed by the potential buyer at extra cost. But, again, the watch in the picture has only had the crown/tube & caseback (which is not shown) replaced and the difference in appearance, as anyone who has modded crowns/tubes knows, is minimal. The watch you see in the center is essentially the watch I am proposing (though I think Newman dials might be able to be sourced as an option).
  12. Welcome. As far as I know, Lange never built a watch like that. This is called a fantasy watch -- a 'cool' looking watch that carries the name of a famous luxury brand even though that brand never released such a watch.
  13. Alli - Good info, but let me add a couple of tidbits now that I have had the chance to live with this pseudo-7760 (de-rotored 7750) baby for a few days now. (Manuel, this is for you - V72 DWs on the ends & the Asian 775x in the center) First, while I do not have the official specs on these Asian 775x variants, I believe, based on what I hear, that this thing is beating at a much more leisurely pace (21.6k bph) than the Swiss version (28k bph). Now, while that is not exactly an identical twin to the V72's 18k beats per hour, it is, like the differences between the ETA 2846 that many of us use in our Double Red's in place of a gen 1575, I believe, close enough for government work......and a more than acceptable compromise for an accurate fully-assembled rep that (I project) would go for roughly 1/3 the price of the V72-powered kit. Second, and this is probably the money shot for anyone salivating over the possibility of a real & affordable alternative to the cantankerous & expensive V72 Daytona clone -- I am finding that the ONLY thing missing that I am conscious of when swapping the 7750 for one of the V72s is its lack of a Newman dial (for me, the Newman dial is like heroin to a junkie....cannot live without it). But, on the other hand, the non-Newman dials are likely to get considerably more wrist time since wearing them would create far fewer raised eyebrows ('That guy is wearing an $80,000 Rolex to McDonald's!!!!....Impossible!!!!). When I look down, as I often do while wearing an iconic watch like this (vintage Daytona), the first thing my eye goes to for reassurance (that I am not leaving myself open to the potential of 'fake Rolex' ridicule) are those pushers. As long as I see those oddly offset (asymmetrical) pushers proudly proclaiming to any onlooker that this ain't likely to be a fake, I have no reason to question the watches provenance any further. And I have owned almost 20 different Daytona reps over the course of the past 20 or so years and this (7750) is the first and only one (other than the V72 DWs) that I feel is sufficiently convincing that it might have kept me from spending extra for a DW had I found & tried this one first. It is that good. And I am being honest here. Now, of course, opinions will vary, but I think I am pretty familiar with the details of vintage Daytonas & I have a pretty good idea of how to tell a gen from a good fake (even from the distance of several feet) & anyone who knows me well would tell you that I am as neurotic as anyone when it comes down to getting the details right (I used to sell vintage British sportscars that I had restored from the ground-up), and I am convinced that no one that I might encounter in my daily travels would ever be able to identify this watch as anything other than a gen. No, it is not perfect (no rep is), but I still feel that having the correct pusher arrangement on a watch with this level of refinement would make it not only a reasonable alternative to the V72, but even a 'Best Buy' within the full range of alternatives.

  15. Automatic with sweep seconds, quickset day/date & optional hack feature Diam= 19.4mm, Height= 5.35mm, 17 jewels, 21600 bph & Power reserve 40h
  16. I do not have the exact dimensions for either dial handy, but I believe the Sub dial is 1 or mm's larger than the Seadweller. If the case dimensions are the same as the gen cases, I do not believe the dials are interchangeable. But this may vary if your case sizes differ from the gens.
  17. Yes, the Bushies have a habit of staring at their watches alot (often at the wrong time).
  18. Like strapping a laser pointer to ones wrist.....I have found that this one cannot be worn without attracting attention (and that attention usually illicits some form of verbal commentary) And the strange thing is that, during construction, I was sure this would become my stealth Daytona (because it lacked the iconic & easily-identifiable black Daytona bezel). Just goes to show ya that the best laid plans.......... And to preempt the next obvious thread (The watch that receives the least notice) (Patek Philippe Calatrava WG 5107 (at right)) At quick glance, people think it is a Timex or Seiko. I cannot tell you how many times I have had someone do a double-take & then actually grab my wrist and hold it still so they could read the name on the dial. They look at me, look at the watch, look at me again & then their jaw goes slack. Ain't life grand?
  19. I took my new (de-rotored) 7750-powered 6263 out for its first test-drive to a local upscale restaurant last night and, sadly, not a word was spoken. But I know it attracted some eyeballs during its brief public appearances from underneath my shirtcuff. Unfortunately, my camera was not in attendance in the dining room, so I could not snap any pics from the scene of the crime. But here is the guilty party
  20. I think you would be surprised at how many people actually notice your watch (why do you think they sell so many watches, both gens & reps). But the vast majority of people are either too shy to talk to a stranger or feel that by complimenting you (without having something of similar complimentary value on their wrist) they would be diminishing their social rank by acknowledging the potential bank account strapped to your wrist. Sociologists have a term for this reduction of status among peers, but it escapes me at the moment (and I know the term for that one -- absent-minded).
  21. tmg - That is an interesting strap. Can you post a picture that shows the entire strap on the watch?
