If you've never even opened a case back, a movement swap attempt will only ruin the watch further. Sell it for parts and get another POrika, I think Reg is holding stock as we speak.
If you already have watch tools sitting around and you were just waiting for an excuse to try your 1st repair, then thats different, go for it.
Well i wouldn't mind giving it a go.
I do not have any tools currently, what would i need and how much would i be looking at spending on tools?
Would a POrikaa sell for parts well? (in the above described condition)

Hi folks, my POrikaa 42mm i bought a few years ago (following recommendations on here as my first rep) has developed an issue with a broken datewheel.
Date no longer changes, nor can it be adjusted with the crown. Still ticks thoug.. just cant bring myself to wear it with the date knackered as it isI'm assuming the solution is a new movement?
Its only a cheapy rep (cost £75 or so at the time) but i cant afford just to dump and replace it.
I'm assuming the movement is a DG2813: Is a straight movement replacement and datewheel swap easy to do? (bare in mind that i am a total newb and haven't so much as even taken the case back off a watch, but am not technically inept.)
If so what tools would i need, what would be the cheapest place to get them and would the DG2813 movement sold @ Cousins (im in the UK) fit the bill as i have read a few issues with different cannon pin heights.

you need to 'like' lacrosse playground first:
http://www.facebook.com/LacrossePlayground
then 'Like' AND comment on the design:
I think we are currently winning but there are 5 days left on the competition and its only by a slim margin, anyone and everyone if you could it would be grand!

Guys as you know i am fairly new to the community (just got my first rep from Narikaa thanks to you guys! pics coming to a wristie thread near you soon!)
I don't expect your help but if you could it would be amazing.
Basically i have entered a design competition for my lacrosse team in the UK to win a full set of Uniforms (worth around $1500 to us)
We have reached the final 4 in the competition and now there is a week of voting on facebook to determine the winner from "Likes" and comments.
if you have facebook and can spare 20 seconds, can you LIKE AND COMMENT (it counts as 2 votes) on this design:
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=476628612394&set=pu.40830472394&theater
You may need to 'like' lacrosse playground to be able to like the design:

Please help us out!
if this isnt allowed mods im really sorry, just really want to win the competition!
cheers
guys!

Hello Beautiful!
I prefer the all Black but this is purty!
I will be able to afford one one day!
-
To be fair, if you have paid for the watch this is surely part and parcel of the service to be expected.
Especially if seen as a "reccomended" dealer on forums such as these which surely brings lots of business....
And at the end of the day it saves a hell of a lot more hastle with having to recieve returns = happier customers = return purchaces in most cases.
am i wrong?
-
Yes...and from what I can see, it doesn't need a gen tube as the rep one seems correct.
Am i right in saying parts are only interchangable if you get the swiss movement version rather than the DG?
Im still on the fence trying to justify buying one!

It looks like this web site copies the words and images from the actual trusted dealer web site "Trusty Time" and then pretends it owns this info by calling it's site "TR Time" ... that's so sad.
I hope you get your watch. these pictures are indeed of the new 42mm Planet Ocean version 5 replica, but again, it's all been stolen from TrustyTime.
Here is the real URL for the trusted replica dealer "Trusty Time" run by Andrew. http://www.yourtrustytime.com/
Are they the same PO 42 that Josh has?
He undercuts Josh by $10?

I can attest to this set as I had a guy show up at the shop with this set. Screw drivers are better used a little pry-bars. The blades spin inside of the handles. The case back opener bits are softer then cream cheese. The link pin drivers are okay but bend pretty easy. The hammer is about the best tool in the set.
Like anything you pay for what you get. Much better off getting a set from Offshore here.
i may give this a sidestep then!

Worth a punt for a beginner with watches?
£4 (~$6.50) i dunno if they would be any good?

That pic just sealed the deal on what you should wear for diving.
A mask and snorkel?
I'll get my coat.

I read the portuguese have problems with dodgy chronos, is that right?
-
That is nice! A portuguese it's def on my list, still not sure on dial color yet though!

Im looking at getting some shirts from Jentzen for work/casual wear as i need some new ones.
Ordering online. is there anything you guys would recommend when ordering online from Jentzen? requests, style, extras, allowances with measurements etc?
i was looking at some plain shirts with a monogram maybe on the cuff?
-
have to say, the white dial is bloody pretty!
-
As it happens, the minimum requirement is 1 watch.
Haha should have seen that coming!
Fine, pictures you wil get in tomorrows thread
-
Pen eraser for me also.. Making sure the strokes are even ... Whatever you do.. Do not use any type of polish as it will put too much of a sheen to the metal
for refinishing the fiberglass pens work really well...
Does the pen eraser bring back the "polish"? the watch has been my daily wear for 6 years and is just looking a bit tired.
Ive got the strap looking real nice (however the middle needs its pollish brought back)
I was wondering past a jewelers the other day and saw my watch in the window (for twice what it cost brand new 6 years ago, which was nice) and i could really tell how much lustre mine has lost!
-
I would love to participate, but i only have one watch at the moment!
-
Right, one thing that is bugging me, i just cant get teh polished areas to look how i want them.
With xmas coming up and the OH looking for a gift.... would a Dremel with a polishing attachment work to polish up the non-brushed sections?

I agree, monsters are awesome, unless he needs a chronograph for timing and what not. If so the quartz version of the SM would be a great choice. There are also some nice Tag quartz reps that look pertty good.
Def need a chrono or a timer function. so the monster is out im afraid. Def prefer the G-shock over the pathfinder.
The SM is on my list of "To-Owns" so I may look in to that one! ayopne recommend a quartz SM rep? Can you get the chrono with a date function? i think Black bezel, black rubber strap would be good when it comes to the SM?
Again cheers for the recommendations guys! im still learning a lot every time i come on here!
-
Cheers folks, I was eying up the gshock but was curious to know what else may be out there!
-
HEy guysafter discovering this forum i can tell that it is going to cost me a of of money!
At the moment im just waiting to get a bit of cash together to pull the trigger on an IWC 3717-01
also have a few others on my radar!
But, by day i am a secondary school (age 11-16) PE teacher in the UK. I was wondering if you guys could recommend a watch that would be good for my job!
-
That post pretty much summed up my facination with watches! i dont think i could add any more to it!
Thanks for adding the bit about the JLC Gyrotourbillon ive never seen that before, thats incredible!
do they make any decent reps of that watch?
-
Update:
Thanks very much for teh pointers guys! i took a couple of hours today and have made it look almost like new, im so pleased with the way it has come out, especially the bracelet!
POrikaa Movement replacement
in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Posted
UPDATE:
Have found out date changes with the time ticking over at midnight, so i can adjust the date by hand by winding the watch forward a full day.
However when i pull the crown to position 2 it just spins freely. position 1 and 3 work as they should do.
Could this maybe be a simple fix rather than a full movement change?
