  1. See if you can go to an AD, and handle the real watch. That is the best way to see and feel the difference between rep and gen. Congrats on modding, but really.. super glue will ruin crystals and inserts if your unlucky.
  2. Don't age it, you will regret it, nice looking watch! Real aged ones only have the fading on the front half, the backs are usually unfaded. Just wear it everywhere you go, it will lightly fade on it's own.
  3. Tape off the area's that are brushed, jewelers and watchmakers use a special clear tape. I have always used masking tape and been careful, but there are professional tapes and taping kits at Ofrei.
  4. There's a very nice one with two dials, and a fair price...right here on our forum http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/162757-omega-speedy-with-oem-35th-anniversary-panda/
  5. Yes gen There are no rep sm300 case backs with the pearling/machining or whatever it's called on the inside that I have ever seen. I bought a gen caseback from a guy in Argentina and it was nos and fit my VN case perfect. There are probably differences from year to year on the outer side.
  6. There's some really cool reps of no cg subs posted here. I have always started my vintage reps with the dial. A few years ago I bought a pretty nice dial second hand, and then discovered the case/dial issues. So off to search for a case, and this is what I found: Rolex sub, 6538 case 37mm, dial 26.5mm Yuki case 37mm, dial 27mm Ndt case 38mm, dial 27mm Ingod44 dial 26.5mm Raffles case 38.5, 28mm dial Helenarou/Rouhelena case 39mm, 29mm dial Tiger Tudor case 37.5mm, 29mm dial Phong case (assume 37mm) dial 26mm MQ case (assume 37mm) dial 27mm As noted, the rep cases and dials are all over the map. What I found out, other than Yuki (6-700$, Phong (14-1500$), and MQ (omg ????$)....there are no rep 37mm cases that accept a correct 26.5/27mm dial. I never looked into the Silex or cartel watches and don't know much about sizes there. Whole thing is frustrating for me, I have seen many of the 29mm dialed watches and they just don't work for me, let alone the subtleties of the case curves Nanuq mentioned. I wish MBW had made this series watch. Someday I might afford a phong..we will see. Eta: I love this style sub, and just like vintage Daytona's- this is one watch that really takes money to get close.
  7. Since you have used it rails, tell us about it? What did you get, costs etc and for how long? Interested.
  8. It's a classic..and I miss it!
  9. Yep, just like buying a used car off one of those seedy lots using their note. You buy a cheap junker for 10k and end up paying 20K for it. Or rent to own refrigerators..same scam in a bigger scale.
  10. I nephew was killed on his bike three years ago. Prayers sent.
  11. I built mine everything gen but the mid case (VN) for around 1400$
  12. This topic is not about the newer modern Rolex ceramic line (6 digit), but rather.. the the earlier series (non ceramic 5 digit models). I can't tell exactly from your post, but were your expecting and wanting a ceramic Rolex? It sounds like an ordering mishap?
  13. I sold my old tired 6694 a couple weeks ago... During the years I owned it, I was torn between redial and refinishing it, and never got around to doing anything with the watch. With my recent situation, and having to sell most of my watches.. I am happy that the watch was bought by someone that went ahead with the restoration. He had this done in a week, and I was amazed when he went me a picture. Before: And now:
  14. Remember Robin Leech? The know-it-all guy from the 70'-80's....english accent......"Rich and Famous" Fat guy...annoying voice? Same deal....but for luxury watches an stuff.
  15. "I've been a part of this forum for a while now, and it seems like the vast majority of members here are Panerai fans and own some model of PAM or another" um.......no...just no.
  16. They don't tell you how you qualify or not, also no credit check usually...odd? "D&C Watch Co. has a proprietary risk management process to determine a customer's eligibility, and we can't make any exceptions to our process no matter how creditworthy the customer may be. We respectfully ask that customers don't inquire about our risk management procedures - if we shared the details of our policies, it obviously defeats the purpose of having those policies in place." 300$ a month to rent a 16610? that's a lot of cash...at least to me... to just wear a watch Here's another company doing it, but with more watches http://hautevault.com/watches-mens-sport and another http://borrowedtimewatches.com/how_it_works Found a link to a watch forum from 2005 talking about this. Seems you actually end up getting your credit card charged full amount of the watch as deposit, minus rental fee on return. There's also situations out there that are really like buying timeshares, they call them watch clubs.
  17. Depending on what kind of bracelet, if your talking about Rolex, the vintage up until the new ceramic series-feel cheap and rattle a bit too. I think a lot of new people to this hobby are surprised by that, when they finally try on a real Rolex bracelet, it's amazing how light they really are. Expecting some heavy shiny bracelet with authority, you find they are not that way at all, but rather a light and comfy bracelet. The washing with soapy water and chain lube really works to make the reps smoother. The only difference between the reps and the gens are fit and finish, Rolex steel always seems brighter to me, and if course the precision markings and stamps are better usually.
