  1. I Finally got the Insert to pop in and it fits like a glow no modification required at all, is tricky to install but once you get the hang of it is easy, it almost all fits all the way and for the last mile I used a plastic tab which harder than my finger to press down on edge and it just snaps in. now to install the date-wheel and the rest. stay tuned

Finally got the gen insert in! I was afraid it would bend or snap so I didn't try further.

Then I came across this thread, tried it again. It took a few tries in getting it in. I eventually used a nylon crystal press die and hand pressed the insert in.

  2. Have you tried to fit a Gen insert in the TC bezel, I juts received my case from TC and the Gen Insert will not unless I sanded down the outer diameter, and curious if your can house a gen insert without modifications.

I tried out two genuine inserts in the TC bezel and neither one snapped in. The bezel measurement I got on my genuine (although old) bezel, was 37.65mm. The TC bezel measured about .5mm smaller. It may be able to be forced in, but I didn't want to push my luck.

I have tried fitting in a gen insert as well. Same luck as you guys, the insert or the inside of the bezel assembly will need to be sanded. I just asked TC about this issue since his writing shows that it took the gen insert without mods.

  3. thanks for the review. as others have said it is nice to see watches like this being introduced to the community.

In my opinion, the bracelet end link is still wrong. It is the same as the Sean bracelet. there is portion that dips below the back of the watch. I asked TC about this and he never showed a picture of it. the edges are still not crisp enough.

here is your picture showing what I mean:

I definitely see what you're saying here. Although the bracelet isn't perfect, the SEL fitment is quite good from the front. There isn't a bracelet out there that is perfect at the moment. I'm not even sure if a gen bracelet would work well for these cases.

  4. if you sand anyway - remove it ;) - it looks like the crystal gasked is not high enough - cheepest way whould be to get a better gasket.

I was thinking of getting a taller gasket, it does seem a bit shorter than how the crystal sits on my franken BK TW.

Looks good but bezel insert looks to be sticking up slightly and not seated into the bezel at the 7 o'clock postion.

Good eye! I have actually removed it prior to these pics, didn't press it in all the way. As other members have pointed out, my gen bezel didn't go in either. It'll need to be sanded in order for it to fit the TC bezel. I may just swap bezel assembly from the BK TW case if it fits. The teeth on that is deeper than the TC bezel.

  5. looking good - but needs the usual mods - gen crown, insert and crystal and i whould remove the engravings

finally some decent Subs are available again.

    cheers,

    Frank

The crown is quite good. It's shape is more flat than the TW sub's crown which is closer to gen. I would say a gen crystal is recommended if you want the crisp magnification and the shinier beveled edge. But I think that can be held off. A gen bezel however is a must! As for the engraving I think I'll lightly sand it down to make it less deep and give it a light polish as well. Reason I got this is for the engraving :-D.

  6. It looks very good overall. Construction is nice. However it definitely needs a pearl mod or a gen bezel. I did notice that the mag of the date looks a bit larger than my franken BK TW sub's mag with the gen crystal. The lume is good but it seems that the second's hand is not as bright as the others.

Anyhow this one has the 2824 movement with the V2 bracelet. The bracelet is quite nice. The clasp has the same engravings as my WM9 clasp. It also has a slight springy action on the clasp and all joints are firm and smooth.

Here's a few pictures of the watch (bracelet resized). I will do a more detailed review this weekend.

  7. I've related this before, but I think it might help some people. When my son was 16 he got his 1st ticket. I went to court with him to fight it. The courthouse in Cook County has the metal detector we had to go through. I have shrapnel in my left leg so depending on how high the setting is the machine can alarm, so I pay attention to them. The deputy saw my 'Retro' GMT and told me to leave it on, a Rolex won't set off the machine. I hesitated, he showed me his and waved me through. No alarm. Fast forward to February of 2009, the TSA at LAX on my way to Honolulu. Before going through I had a conversation with a TSA man who was on break. So I asked him about Rolex setting of the machine. He said most of the gold Rolex watches do set it off, but the all stainless steel doesn't. I asked, but he didn't know why. I had my rep GMTIIc and decided to try it. Went right through, no alarm. I've since left it on through Chicago, Honolulu and Phoenix TSA stations many times, no alarm. I'd have to bet a genuine would do the same, and that means there is no reason to take it off and chance losing it.

Good observations. I will try leaving mine on next time I go through. But now that they do the full body scan; I'm sure they won't allow me to keep it on. I usually take off possessions and place them all in my bag before going through security. Once I go through I check the bag immediately and take out what was put in.

  8. I did not blame the TSA for anything. I said I wouldnt trust them with the watch...would you?

As far as tracing the guy..how do you know It's a guy? I dont think you read the story.. ;)

If the story is correct, the owner left it by accident. If I were to put my possession through checkout I would not leave my eyes on them for a second, specially something as value as a Rolex.

The video in your link clearly shows it's a guy who took the women's watch. You can see the guilt on his face as he looks up at the camera in the end.

  9. Whoops! yup should be .06 and .07..

Going to buy new calipers and new glasses.

    brb

    :D

wow if that's correct the tolerance is of a gen case and bracelet!

    from TC's V2 review

"There is still 0.04 mm gap in total, that is, 0.02 mm gap on each side. Gen's tolerance is only 0.01 mm in total, that is 0.005 mm on each side."

  10. this looks exactly like my wm9v2 bracelet

What's the size of the end lugs? it is > 20mm? I got the V1 bracelet from TC and its exactly 20mm which is a bit too small for the BK TW case.

found this info in TC's V2 review:

"Now back to specs, width of TC 93250 V2 SEL is 20.13 mm. Length from lug to lug of TC Submariner Watchcase is 20.17 mm. There is still 0.04 mm gap in total, that is, 0.02 mm gap on each side. Gen's tolerance is only 0.01 mm in total, that is 0.005 mm on each side."

  11. So what will happen to the TW sub now? That one is over 600$ right? Or am i wrong?

Guess tw sub is history/dead now?

I wouldn't say the BK TW sub is dead. It looks great in his posts and comparisons but there isn't a direct comparison with the BK TW sub.

TC has not delievered the watch to members yet. I am waiting on one from him to review. I will compare it to my franken BK TW sub.

  12. The movement holder is what makes even more intersting, this method is better than using the normal eta method to secure the movement, I wish your dials have ETA feet that there will no need to glue the dail to the movement holder. That will be a plus.

    Regards

I don't think the dial is glued in. The holder has placement for the dial's feet. The tape is there to give the dial and DWO spacing.

  13. Try the rolex forum parts & accessories section; you can occasionally find brand new inserts for $250 or minty ones for ~$150. I haven't come across new crystals on TRF, but you may swap to a clark crystal if you can't a nice gen find one. I've seen some gen ones on eBay that has a few light scratches going for $100.

  14. 20% Discount is what I would call a good AD Rolex discount, if not I would buy one preowned!!!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Good luck getting 20% on SS sport models. I got 15% on my GMT IIc and that's the BEST I've seen around. I practically paid used price for a new random series GMT IIc!

  15. Thanks! I see you own the GMT...how do the PCL's fair after wearing it? A lot of fine scratches?

It actually holds up quite well. The barcelet PCL's super fine scratches can only be seen with bright light. It's barely visible even under the sun or normal lighting condition. The clasp does have a few light scratches from desk, but can be easily polished. There are more scratches on the PCLs near the clasp (due to the easylink usages).

Here's a picture of my clasp after a few months of use:

  16. I would like to know which Noobversion this is.

Because there a some different models with different prices. What is the minimum price to have the one you reviewed?

    Thnx again for the review!

This one was from timesshop for $128 last year. I believe the price range for this is $120-170 for this same model. It has an asian 2836 movement.
