  1. Eeek! Highoe, thank you for correcting me. I always forget that the 1570's slightly slower. 5.5/b/sec vs. 6.0b/sec Leave to Rolex to complicate things As far as the movement goes, you can send it off to a number of modders and get it fixed up. I took the last route and had my modder install a new 2846 that had been torn apart, cleaned, adjusted and regulated by his watchmaker (very talented) and it's keeping COSC time.
  2. Well, I have both a gen and rep 93150, and I hate to be the one to disagree, BUT... I will. I sent my old school MBW 93150 off with my build to PBdad and asked him to "do whatever you can to make this thing feel more gen-like" and he did precisely that. I don't know what, precisely, he did, but it feels GREAT. So a heavily modded 93150 bracelet combined with a gen clasp can be 90-95% on gen all the way (not to mention $500-700 cheaper). I'll leave the gen 93150 on my gen sub. Hehe.
  3. yeah, that's a good deal. Where did you find that?
  4. I feel you! I have a noobmariner on the way now just for the bracelet (why pay $70 + shipping for the bracelet when you can buy the whole watch for $118 and free shipping?)
  5. Yes, this a great movement for your build to appear like an old 1570 movement. Like the 1570, this movement beats at 21,600bph. It's also a great workhorse movement. Of course, the tell will be when the crown is unscrewed as it has a quickset date and the 1570 did not. So, it's almost like an upgrade ;-)
  6. Women wearing subs, and I saw a petite guy the other day wearing a women's datejust (no, not midsize... women's).
  7. Yep, saw those sexy gmts on pan am, too... As far as her watch on Revenge, I saw what I could swear was a plexi crystal...
  8. The main character is after revenge on her father's behalf and she wears this Sub: That's a 1680, isn't it? P.S. Women wearing men's watches can be damn sexy.
  9. I wondered that, too! Hell, the more I get to know some of our brothers here on the forums, the more you realize that people of all walks of life (and title-holders) enjoy this hobby. Don't think for a moment I wasn't trying to find at least one fake in the room! My eyes aren't nearly as well-trained as my brothers here, but I do see a LOT of fakes come through the restaurant. And of course, most of the fakes say "Rolex" on the dial. I see waaaaaaay too many fake datejusts and day/dates. Of all the tells, it's always the misaligned cyclops that gives them away. Talk about putting the tells under a microscope...
  10. My restaurant is not elite. Well, it is in Columbus. But I simply didn't wish to list my workplace on the forum for thousands to see because you never know who's reading it. GreenHornet, what's the address of your place of work? :-) As far as Columbus being a mecca, they were in town for a meeting/symposium at the OSU Fisher College of Business, which is actually a very reputable business school (and one I attend).
  11. I don't know if any of you have one nearby, but here in Columbus there's a place called Dakota Watch and they have a pressure tester that gives you a printout. Anytime I have a modder work on one of my watches I take it by (mall kiosk) and have them test it real quick. And since PBdad is really the only person who touches any of my watches anymore they always pass
  12. Was this pulled from an H-Factory watch? I thought that all of the Noob factory PAMs had the engraved plates as opposed to printed, so I wonder where this printed one came from...
  13. Well, I do understand the generation gap. I do love my Rollies, but rest assured when I'm done with grad school and climbing my way up the corporate ladder, I will do my best to change the trend by wearing vintage JLCs and Omegas. I do work at what is considered the "it" restaurant in Columbus, and if you're ever coming to town shoot me a PM and you can come and visit me. I don't really want to post the name of the restaurant up here, but I'll tell anyone who wants to know on a 1-on-1 basis.
  14. Let me fill in these answers before I forget... Vintage Explorer 16550 with nice patina on the dial There were no other vintage models there. That was it. A couple solid gold subs, two tone subs, solid and two tone datejusts. Just the one Daytona, believe it or not. The giant does-not-belong-in-the-boardroom Sea Dweller. Couple SS subbies. Lots of Presidents. I think that about covers it, if memory serves.
  15. Reps absolutely have their place. I've been out to clubs wearing my gen Rollies and no one's ever noticed (to my knowledge) or said a word, now throw on a rep Cartier Santos 100XL chrono with swiss movement and everybody and their mother's on my sack. Could I buy the gen? Sure, if I sold a gen Rolex (or 2) I love with their in house movements. Would I? Would I sell these watches I love due to their unique factor for a nice piece of jewelry that houses a generic ETA movement with a Cartier decorated rotor for $5-7K when my rep is basically the exact same thing (especially with custom made alligator strap)? HELL NO! We buy and wear reps for many reasons. For some, it's creating a Franken of a piece that's exactly the same as the gen, but doing it for 4K instead of spending the 40K on that grail. For others it's knowing that what they have on their wrist is exactly the same as what they sell in the AD with the exception of it not having rolled off of that producer's line. And then there are those who appreciate the beauty and aesthetics of a watch, but can't afford the price tag. For others, it's keeping up with their co-workers and not wanting to shell out the money for the gen. For most of us, it's probably a little bit of all of the above. For all of us, though, as Pete mentioned, it's really about our brotherhood here. Do you know how many times I've had a member send me a part or piece I've been looking for and not asked for a dime? And of course, when I can, I do the same. I trust my brotherhood of "pirates" more than I trust the sycophantic gen-heads on the gen forums any day. The moral of the story is, everyone donate $5 for server rent. Thank you. ::steps down from soapbox::
  16. LOL... Max, you just need to go to the Hustler store on campus for that sort of thing. Of course, I've been told you're already so advanced in your "gauging," so to speak, that maybe we should all just chip in and buy you a traffic pylon....
  17. 3.) What was the Rolex model I saw that I thought, "Head nod to you... wasn't expecting to see that one." -> daytona in leather strap Amespinosa, your guess to #3 was my runner-up. Solid gold Daytona on brown alligator with gold deployment. I hate Daytonas, but this watch looked cool in an understated sort of way....
  18. Gen Rolex 16220 datejust SS, silver dial, machined bezel
  19. Company. It was hosted by one of the C.E.O.s. I always figured that the corporate watch was Rolex, but I was just simply sharing how funny it was to see myself in person. That's all... There was some very interesting conversation as to how they all plan on increasing GDP growth in the following quarters. Definitely some very smart minds in attendance.
  20. Oh, let's play a fun game. Can anyone take a guess as to: 1.) What was the most frequent Rolex model I saw? 2.) What was the coolest Rolex model I saw? and... 3.) What was the Rolex model I saw that I thought, "Head nod to you... wasn't expecting to see that one."
  21. How do I know this, you ask? Well, last evening at my restaurant the C.E.O. and Chairman of one of the largest companies in the world (net income of over $12 billion) invited many other very important C.E.O.s, chairmen, presidents of companies and a 4 star general to dinner at my restaurant to discuss how we can spark fire into our economy. (There was a lot of very interesting conversation and I learned a lot as I was the "point man" and not allowed to leave the room). Walking around the room all evening, I made an interesting observation: Of these 22 Corporate Giants, I counted 18 Rolex wristwatches. The best was the 5'7" man wearing a deep sea. Let me just say, that watch DOES NOT go with a suit well. I'm just sayin'.... So, there you have it. The #1 watch among the most powerful C.E.O.s in the world is Rolex. Oh, not one Patek.... Not one! :bangin: :bangin: :bangin: :bangin: :bangin: :bangin: :bangin: :bangin: :bangin: :bangin: :bangin: :bangin: :bangin:
  22. Everest Watch Works (that you had mentioned) does good work. I have an amazingly perfectly lumed rep PAM 156 GMT you can find pictures of in the Panerai area. I would put his work up against The Zigmeister's any day BUT -- and a big BUT -- you will wait forever. I was told a turnaround of 4-6 weeks and it was more like 3-4 months. That said, PBdad does all of my modding. He's methodical, a great communicator and he's currently applying luminova to my genuine tritium-dialed Rolex 16220 datejust which should tell you how much faith I have in his work
  23. I have an old school 1665 MBW case that I know will accept a gen movement. It really depends on what era your MBW case is from. Mine is from the the era of Maria making them, and he's long since passed on. I believe the story goes that one of his family members took over and the cases aren't quite nearly as good and then they shared that design with someone else and that's how you get the MBK, which is basically the modern MBWs mass-replicated... there are other members much better versed in all of this than myself. For my build, I thought a little about getting a 1570 movement, but my thoughts on that are this: go big, or go home -- meaning -- buy the Phong case set to go with the 1570 movement and all of that, or, do what I did (for your first big and slightly costly project) and drop a 2846 slow-beating movement in your MBW case (so now you can keep your dial and hands) and spend the money you've saved on movement, dial and hands on having it lumed the way you'd like, having the case softened, lugs drilled, bracelet polished out and oiled, etc. If I'm going to spend the money on a 1570 movement, I want a case that doesn't have a well-known fake serial etched in to it. I want it to be genkin. (Genkin = So Frankin that no one will know but me and a few select nerds) Then, if you do all of that, and you fall madly in love with having that watch on your wrist, consider saving up for the Phong case set and movement like I'm currently doing Just my .02
  24. Well, I don't have the most accurate measuring tools, but it's around 15mm long, 1.2/3 diameter and 1.2ish thread length. I'll let you know exactly what the measurements are as soon as I get the whole kit And with a donation to the forum, I'll even send you the screw you need I figure this way I've taken one for the team and can do the research. I've gotten so much help from forum member's "experiments" that I feel good being able to give back a little hahaha
