Don't forget the hands! Nothing says you mean business like a set of Submariner hands!
thl: I don't know if I've ever seen a 5500 Explorer service dial go on sale, but one would definitely perfect your watch.
You're right but my watchsmith said something could happen ...
-
Wow! I'm inspired to do the same! So is the explorer 5500 the same make/case/dimensions/movement as the air-king then? Save for a different dial?
Oh yes, the explorer 5500 is nothing but an Air-King with specific Explorer dial.
Cheers

Thanks all, I'm glad you like it.
Even if you are used to beefier watches, as I am, its charme and uderstatement are, IMHO, unique.
@LHOOK
You're right, dial isn't perfect; It's Yuki's, and deciding between this and the newer was hard.
But I didn't want to modify it too much, you know I'm waiting for a service one
Have a nice day

Hi All,
I'm looking fo a "precision" or "super precision" dial for my 5500, but it's hard to source even a service one.
So, waiting for the right one, I'd like to find a good compromise.
In my opinion both NDT and Yuki's are not do close to the original, have got any other suggestions?
tnx mates.

Excellent! Seems fitting to have a Monte Carlo on a rally strap.
Space-Dweller playing in traffic:
Indeed it's funny , Monte Carlo ... Rally
Is it the Avignon Bridge in the photo of that wonderful Space Dweller? I love Place Crillon

Guys,
I just found a beautiful, working cal.1030 with its original set of hands and crown.
I was thinking to house it in a 6538, but where would you buy case and dial?
Yuki... JAW... NDT (are they still in?)
Any idea is welcome.
Rgds

Well, I just changed to a Phong case from an old MBW and difference is remarkable, sure it's not cheap...

Thanks folks, you're right, insert is gen but not its original, so it's time to change crystal and drill here and there.
I'll let you know.

Hi,
1665 is an old passion , so I started modifying mine one:
- Base MBW 1665 from Watchmeister
- Case-set bought by a forum member
- Dial vintageing by me
- Riveted bracelet ( to be changed, it doesn't accept 2 mm springs)
- Original insert
Just finished, took a few shots with phone, any idea on what is wrong and what sohould be made is very welcome
thanks for looking

Thanks to you all.

Only one way to waste $400 on a dial to find out.....
Oh ok then, yes it will - the real question is about whether it fits the case more than the movt at any rate.
Thanks for your answer, I think the case will do, inner measure is 26.5 mm as the dial, my doubts concerned the date window distance from the center of the dial, I thought eta movements were different.
Bye

Hi,
I'm thinking about swapping my 1665 dial, possibly with an NDT one.
The question id, will it fit my 2836/2 movt ?
Cheers.

BTW, did anybody else notice that the slide rule on the Chronomatic does not align?
No, it's correct, it's for measuring both Kilometers and Miles, my Jupiter pilot has the same alignment.

Funny!!!
Must I suppose I'll never get my watch?
If this should be the case, could you please tell me if my money is on its way back to my wallet?
And of course my best wishes for your future...
