  1. Will be following you're progress closely Oli.

A nice 5512 is my grail, as they say. Been looking into a build for ages.

Sent yuki an email this morning regarding his 5512 case. It looks amazing.

    Bet it's expensive though.

  2. The ceremony managed to under cut my already extremely low expectations. A lot of stuff thrown in there (i.e. NHS or the local hospital) is not fitting for an international event, hell it's not even fitting for a local event. It's like the US have the DMV as part of the ceremony. Mr Bean was the highlight of the event, which says it all. I was live at the Sydney and Beijing opening ceremonies and there is just no comparison.

I take this was a case of "revenge of the Irish" as Danny Boyle, the director of Irish descent really embarrassed the British lot ;)

    You're talking utter [censored].

  3. I thought it was amazing too. The Olympic Cauldron was breathtaking.

Did anyone notice when the German team were introduced and there was a cutaway to the nations representatives in the audience there was one chap doing what looked suspiciously like a Nazi salute?

    Haha I saw that.

  4. Also, what I meant but didn't get across I guess in my original post is that if you've ever seen the level of finishing in a gen movement, a rep movement looks crappy in comparison.

It doesn't make a rep movement 'less cool'-- all watch movements to me are interesting. However anyone who's ever seen the back of a Patek knows a painted Asian Seagull movement looks nothing like it.

there are some exceptions to this rule: the newest Panerai reps come pretty damn close, especially with the recent changes to the swan neck regulator and baseplate finishing.

some gens have rather pedestrian movements (or the same movement!) and can therefore be repped easier.

If you know even a little bit about cars from a mechanic's perspective...

and you popped open the hood of this

    and saw this

    you'd be like 'wait, what?'

not knocking the Chevy 350 v8, its a great engine...but I would know instantly that it was a Chevy v8, not a Ferrari v8

    Then there are those that say a Ferrari with a V8 isn't a gen Ferrari :) :) :) :)

Lol, doesn't look like a ferrari.

    Definitely wouldn't sound like one.

  5. Hi all, seen lots of similar threads to this.

I do find it strange when members say

"unless it's a Rolex people have no idea what watch I'm wearing".

I live in London and within my circle of friends I'd say 50% wear mid level gens. (rolex, breitling, tag) These are people from all walks of life. All obviously have some disposable income. Some buy new, some second hand.

Thing is, I'd say it must be 75% that are watch aware where I live.

  6. The Cartier came from a member in Bermuda, and had been used in water.

The DSSD had been serviced and lumed by the Zigmeister so I trusted it implicitly.

The BR 02 was serviced by The Katt so I trusted it.

The Aquaracer 500m was WR tested by Vaccum while he had it for lume and AR. 7ATM passed!

The 1680 franken was from builder/modder W0lf so I trusted that.

The Superocean was serviced by Bikemike ..

So either these pieces were built by talented modders, were serviced by a watchmaker, or came with assurances from a trusted seller.

Cool. Sending a couple of my pieces off to Wiz. Will get them WP'ed then.

  7. My wife or I wear while swimming or showering:

    Cartier Pasha Sea Timer

    Breitling SuperOcean

Omega Planet Ocean 42 and 45

    Rolex 1680 Submariner

    Rolex 1665 Sea Dweller

    Rolex Sea Dweller Deepsea

    Bell & Ross 02 PVD

    Bell & Ross 01 - 94 chrono

Have you had these water-proofed or are they out the box J?Sent from TK-421's comms using Tapatalk

  8. I'm trying to decide between a TC or a BK sub. Both look awesome but since I have never seen one in person it's hard to decide.

    What would you guys recommend?

In the same position. Bk is tried and true. But I'd really like the gen like insert and bezel assembly.

Suppose I'll hold out for the Tc improvements :(

  9. That first picture is great.. TT Sub is such a great watch. But whenever I've had one, I always think it's just too much for me.

Agreed. I've got the gen of this. Every now and then I wish I'd got the standard black Sub.

    It does attract attention. :)
