  1. I live in Las Vegas and there is a reputable store here called Tower of Jewels....

They have the largest selection of used watches (Mostly Rolex) in the state....

The Sahara store number is 702.735.4145....I tried calling them for you but they are already closed for the day....

    Hi Nightstroker,

thanks a lot for your help. That shop sounds interesting and I will most definitely give them a try to find that watch.

As to the other shops that members here mentioned, I don't think that they have reasonable prices.

I found two other shops off ebay which carry the watches I am looking for. They are both loacated in the LA area, but I don't mind

    the drive.

We'll see how it turns out. But in the meantime please feel free to give me more tips :D

  2. Hi folks,

my girlfriend and I will be travelling to Las Vegas in mid June and will be doing a round trip by car for three weeks.

I am thinking of buying her a gen Speedmaster for her 40th birthday to take advantage of the good exchange rate between Dollar and Euro.

Does anybody have a tip for me where to look at? I know there are quite a few watch stores in the different hotels. But I guess they don't have any reasonable prices.

I found some online stores on the Internet where the watches can also be picked up personally. But those are mainly in NYC or LA.

    Any tips are greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

  3. Hi folks,

    I need some help.

I received the CD about a week ago. I ordered the OMEGA part and TZ. But I only found one file on the CD named "Resume2 Aug 07".

So there must have gone something wrong while burning

I sent Offshore a PM but haven't received a reply yet. I guess he is on vacation.

Is there any way that one of you guys can sent me these two parts ( OMEGA and TZ ), or maybe put them on a server so that I can download them?

Or maybe there is a member from Germany who can send me a copy.

I am sure that Offshore will reply to my PM when he is back. But I just don't wanna bother him with sending a new CD half around the globe.

On page one and two of this thread you can see my order and Offshores reply that "Moppel" has done the payment....just in case....

    Many thanks.

  4. ... is this job best left to a watchmaker?

    I couldn't agree more!

I can't say anything about the Speedmaster, but on a Seamaster you have to obey the right direction you put the pins in. Also, the pin itself

must be put in with the right side. So it's best to spend a few pounds and have it done.

  5. Hi everyone,

I am currently trying to get some nice shots of my watches for a 2008 calendar.

I've been doing this calendar thing for ten years now, mostly with pictures from various

vacations. Now I think it's time to set up a calendar with some of my watches and my

    girlfriends watches.

I've taken the following pictures in the backyard since it turned out that nothing can beat

natural light. Well, at least for me...I just haven't been able to get nice shots in the house using

    a light-tent...

This one was taken on an OMEGA catalog from 2006

    01010515.jpg

Here I poured some water on the watch.

    01010539.jpg

Since all the leaves are changing colour right now, I thought this might give a nice

background. That rusty thing is a nail from a railroad tie which I found some years ago while

on vacation in the US. Yep...I really found it...didn't pull it out.

    More pictures will follow soon.

Hope you enjoyed it so far.

    Thanks

  6. I saw The Zigmeister & Moppel put Pins in the screw holes... but these look MUCH too big now! :(

    Hi,

the pins look indeed much bigger than the original screws. But for me it makes no difference since both is not very accurate.

I put the pins in just for the fun doing it.

How much is a GEN bracelet? Are there any bracelet available to fit on this watch with pins?

A gen bracelet is probably twice the cost of the rep itself. However, I once bought a SMP bracelet from Andrew

which I later sold to By-Tor. He was able to put it on his SMP with some modification. But I really can't remember if that bracelet had screws or pins.

You might wanna ask him or search for some pictures of his modification.

  7. Hi folks,

I'll be travelling to Berlin with my girlfriend at the end of October. For a special occasion I would like to invite her to a restaurant.

We both like good food and are always willing to spend some more money if the food and ambiance are "out of the normal".

So does any of you know of a restaurant that might be suitable?

To give you an idea of what I mean:

    - we have been to a place where the waiters come with meat skewers to your table and you can choose from about ten different kinds of meat, and they cut it the way you want it.

    - we sometimes go to a restaurant where they have a huge buffet with lots of meat, fish and vegetables. You then put it in a bowl and have it cooked with a sauce that you choose.

    - or a candle light dinner with so-called "finger-food".

    Like these here:

Any help would greatly be appreciated as it really needs to be something special.

    Thanks for all your help.

  8. Hi there,

I am always surprised how helpful this forum is. There are so many things, which are of course related to our main subject "watches", but also can be used on other fields.

The great tutorial of photography cannot only be used to take some exceptional great pictures of our watches, but is also very informative on the basics

of taking pics of almost everything.

And this tutorial here really helps a lot to get the most out of the pictures that have been taken.

Then people start to make their own straps. And even though I never had the chance to see one of those straps personally, I really admire the skills and am taken aback on how perfect these straps are made.

Not to forget the brave among us who modify their watches, may it be for better accuracy or just for the fun doing it.

What I am trying to say is that it suprises me what skills and ideas members develop "around" watches.

And all that on a very helpfully, friendly and respectfully basis.

    Just great :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  9. Hi,

you might be right. I have the SMP Chrono rep and noticed that the bracelet scratches more easily than the bracelet on my gen SMP.

And I am not only speaking of the clasp itself. There are also some minor scratches on the bracelet links, and I often wonder how that happened whereas on my gen I still can't see any of them even after two years.

But considering the difference on the price I don't care that much.

  10. Hi there,

I once lost a watch. I was about 12 years old and received a nice quartz LED watch as a present from my parents. It was once of those

fancy watches where you had to push a button and the time was then shown on the display.

So only a few weeks after I got this watch I left it in the locker room at a near by open air bath. I still don't want to think about the trouble I had with my parents :o

  11. Hi,

I got this watchwinder from my girlfriend as a Xmas present. It was only 160 Euros ( about $220 ) off Ebay.

After about 4 month of smooth running it didn't turn anymore with my heavy PO on it. So I sent it back to the seller and asked for repair or replacement.

It took a couple of weeks and I thought I wouln't get it back because comunication was a bit painful.

But I received it back repaired and since then I enjoy seeing the watches turning.

Okay, enought watch talk for now. I am going to one of the biggest fairs in Europe today. Only 2 miles away from where I live in Bonn/Germany.

5-loop roller coaster, lots of candy shops, fresh beer and many possibilities to shot a red rose for my girlfriend at one of the shooting gallerries :in_love:

  12. Hi,

if you don't mind buying from the EU I definitely recommend Precious Time as he does QC.

I also bought my CD ( which I unfortunately had to sell due to some financial trouble ) from PT.

It came without any flaws and was a real beauty. So far I have bought several watches from him and every watch

    arrived in perfect condition.

    Think about it....

  13. Seeing as a TAG Carrera is on my wants list, I hope the ring is just a little tight as opposed to glued on. :D

    Hi,

good news: the ring is not glued. I was able to manage to get the ring off.

I also installed the new datewheel. But as I wanted to put back the chrono hand at six o'clock I realised that I had broken the pin.

I guess I am done with going deeper into modifying watches.

  14. Seeing as a TAG Carrera is on my wants list, I hope the ring is just a little tight as opposed to glued on. :D

I've come across watches with only one clamp, for what it's worth. As long as the clamp is on the other side to the crown, it should hold. If you feel you need two, open a watch with three and cannibalise one. D

How much is a bag of 144? I'd be more concerned about losing the screws, myself.

    Hi Pugwash,

so the ring can just be taken off without removing srews or something else? I've tried to get it off with a little force, but without any luck.

Well, I guess I will try again.

The bag of clamps is around 7 GBP. But the postage to Germany always hurts.

  15. Hi,

I am currently trying to install a new datewheel as well. I am doing this work on my computer desk with this tutorial displayed on the computer screen.

Well, maybe I should have printed it out because I have managed to loose 2 of the case clamps which hold the movement to the case with screws.

They just flew away from the tweezers :angry2: and haven't been found yet.

Does anybody know where to get a few of those clamps besides from Cousins? They only sell those in a 144 pieces quantity.

( please no jokes like "you will probably need the others, too :p )

Also, I haven't been able to find out how to remove the spacer ring from the movement.

BTW: it is a TAG Carerra.

    Any help is much appreciated.
